Sure I could call, but generally when I arrive in MDE, my cellphone minutes from the previous trip have expired. Would welcome any thoughts on your back-up plans or alternatives you have used when this happened to you. Thanks in advance.
You sound like a budget traveller. But you are staying in el poblado?
If you want to save real money especially if you're traveling by yourself, take the airport bus service which costs around 8k to el centro behind hotel Nutibara. But will stop anywhere in-between.
Be careful with parque lleras. Personally that's not my cup of tea. It's a magnet for the worst of paisas since they know gringos stay and hang around there.
Have fun and make a report about your experience. This thread benefits from newbies' experiences. So don't take it for granted.

Also I usually call one of my regular Mansion chicks to put minutes on my phone before I get there. So I can call as soon as I arrive.

I always bring a pen and piece of paper with me and make sure the taxista sees me writing down the car number.

Just arrived after 10 days in Cartagena and first impression is the place is huge. Any help would be great with that as well as any recommendations for first night out here. Fluent Spanish and experienced monger so worst case I will figure it out like other places. Been reading through the posts but a whole lot of useless information being posted over the last month or so. Would be nice if the admin would break the posts up into catagories ie. Lodging, chicas, locations. Anyway, I will let you know what I find here. Cartagena was awesome as always except for Tony number one who is an a-hole. No one should spend time near that guy all he does is stick it to you!

Are these on international arrival level? Are these airport only taxis? Since I do not know what a gypsy cab is, I am curious to know why the white taxis are better choices and safe.
