Most of the folks here complaining about not able to find the info they need are either too lazy to look for it (reading is hard, I know), or too cheap to pay for a subscription to PM others. I did my first few trips (ever) to Medellin without asking a single question in this thead. And this was during an intense flame war going on (in this thread). I READ; starting from 2009 and worked my way to present day (2012 at the time). Any out-of-date info was easily filled in by READING the Medellin Lists forum or PMing Senior. Members.

It's not about being fluid or speaking correctly but being able to communicate ideas. This is enough so that you can get out and about in Medellin and enough that to get good experiences with the girls. As you do this longer your Spanish will improve and things will become easier.

As far as the Mansion goes, the majority of guys are looking for a combination of looks and attitude and I agree with you that the Mansion is providing this. I have recommended the Mansion on this board repeatedly to guys on their first trip. Some guys continue to stay there while most will go off on their own in different directions. To each their own.

I assume he is strong enough to take responsibility for his choices and never claims to be a "victim" even if the sole shareholder in Wendy's Inc defaults on her contractual obligations or fails to meet the novio's expectations. But he's getting a slice of her life at her sexual peak. Any "loss" is impossible if you have no expectations. Ride it as long as it lasts, pun intended.

I give out a few scholarships and one of the requirements is ability to carry on a basis conversation in English at the end of three months of a course. That choice tells me if a girl is serious about improving herself and allows me to have a relationship and maintain a pathetic level of Spanish.

So please don't be offended by Mr Stilt's comments. You are a tuition officer, right? And you can communicate with your scholarship hookers because they are able to speak English, as a prerequisite. And that's what The Stilt meant and I paraphrase: "Ability to communicate with each other if you are in a serious long term relationship", if you read between the lines.

The majority of the time that language would be Spanish since it is the national language.

As a USA citizen and veteran of a marriage / divorce to a foreign national (not Colombian), I want to share some information that anyone thinking of a K-1 fiance visa should know about. And probably does not.

As part of the K-1 process, the USA citizen is required to sign an affadavit of support. This obligates you to support your fiance after she enters the USA and before you get married. No big deal. Not a problem.

The pitfall is in the next step. After the wedding, your fiance must apply for an interim green card. As part of that process, you are required to sign a new, much longer affadavit of support, called Form I-864. Google "I-864" and read about it. You won't f'ing believe it. Or maybe you will, until you realize that your obligation to support your spouse does not terminate with divorce. You are on the hook to support her at 125% of poverty level (currently about $1500 / month) and reimburse governmental agencies for her medical and other public assistance costs they pay on her behalf.

How long does your obligation last? If she chooses not to get a job and does not remarry, the rest of your life.

I was told by two immigration attorneys that the I-864 is the "hot ticket" for women in Russia and Asia to set themselves up for life. My ex- gleaned information from other women from her country about how to play the process to avoid outright marriage immigration fraud. If they can convince a poor schmuck like me. Or you. To do a K-1, the rest is history. While there are a lot more details to know, bottom line is this: talk to an immigration attorney during the K-1 process. Specifically, ask them about the I-864.

In hindsight, I would never do it again. IMHO, if men knew what they were getting into, the I-864 makes a K-1 Visa a financially untenable undertaking. Hope this info helps.

Everyone has choices, but treating women as things to own is certainly unproductive in the long run. I'm just curious why anyone would be so critical and negative toward another human being that is struggling for a more tranquil, successful, and peaceful life. I own an apartment in Medellin and spend approximately 40% of my time here (I'm in Medellin now) , in Bogotá or a couple of other cities where I have clients. And, to correct your factual misstatement, I have a relationship with the Colombian girl that has spanned more than 5 years. Obviously, I do not adhere to the concept of monogamy, outside marriage. But she is my novia. And, no, I'm not a "tuition officer" whatever that is. My foundation provides scholarships to several Colombian girls, as has been fully discussed previously.
