That's surprising considering Jakarta has such a vibrant "jazz culture" I've been visiting for the past 8 years in Feb / Mar for Jva Jazz. It's incredible. The crowds, local & regional bands and some great international acts. Surely with so much love for the genre, there must be performance venues.
Personally I've not checked that out as I have a blast at the usual places. Malio, classic, King Cross, Kota Indah etc. Thanks to a few recent reports will venture out to Tanjung Priok. CJs and BATS I've avoided as I don't fancy my chances there. Over 60, fat and brown! Having said that, I find the people of Indonesia very welcoming and friendly.
I think you might be right about the availability of these live band jazz places. There might be a few places that popped up in Google search, though I have never been to any of them, so if anyone has any feedback about these places, please share. The list include The Writers Bar, Motion Blue at Hotel Fairmont, The Cascade Lounge surprisingly in Hotel Mulia, Café Batavia, Ecology Bistro, and SHY rooftop.
Frankly, I would not dare venture out to Tanjung Priok alone. It feels like the chances of getting robbed or worse are very high in that neighborhood.

Met a young local on Thibauds forum and he's proposed Fashion hotel lounge and some of the usual places. Not really underground enough. ID like to swing between Malio Club and the really local places. Of course boy scouts motto first.
Old Indian men is the target of preference for CJs girls. It doesn't matter if you are fat.
But Smoothy, I understand most are in mid to late 20's? Prefer the nubile ones myself. And if there are a few of those, the competition must be crazy. But I just may drop in during the week for a drink or two.

The trick in Tanjung Priok is to keep moving so the mosquito's don't take advantage of you. Just now is Dengue season and Priok is a hotspot, that said, so is the area up around Kota Indah and some of those rooms can be just a buzzing. MTR bar in particular. They seem to like the mixture of pisss and shower water.
OS drove past those Priok bars on Saturday night and there's lots of bars and lots of girls. It would make a spectacular pub crawl for a couple of good buddies and don't worry about the locals. They all say the bad guys are in Sumatra.
And if you get cold feet, The relative safety of Kelapa Gading and Kings Cross is just 10 minutes away.

Of course you're more vulnerable than going to BATS or Classic, but felt safe enough. They have Indomarets, food carts, ojeks everywhere. I probably wouldn't travel to an area like Tanjung Priok in the Philippines.

I did not feel any danger in Tanjung Priok, and had a friendly enough vibe.
The biggest danger in Jakarta is probably the police, not regular people.
If anyone knows of any good bands around town, please share that info.
I was in Jakarta over the weekend for a few days, and on Monday night (just before the CNY holiday) I landed up at Cazbar in Kuningan with a couple of locals. And man, was it buzzing. Small intimate place, old school bar overflowing with the office crowd from that area stopping by for a few drinks.
Fantastic band that does rock covers and the usual local fare. There is an overweight potbellied singer who has an incredible voice and belts out rock numbers effortlessly.
Very slim chance of a pickup, unless you are Brad Pitt.
I agree with Jkt Jon's assessment and would add that obviously CJ's is not for everybody. I recommend going on Friday or Saturday night after 11 pm. Have the mandatory drink minimum (I like a quality Vodka on the rocks or a straight Scotch), check around for a girl or girls to your liking, listen to the music, and stay for an hour or so. If you don't see any one that is to your taste, move on. No big deal. BTW, while the age of CJ's FL's is skewed towards the 26 to 30-year range, there ARE younger girls to be found there. My last CJ's girl, for example, was a 20 year-old cutie pie and she told me she was currently enrolled in Uni and that is why she showed up that night with her girlfriend - she needed money for her classes. LOL. I take it all with a grain of sand, but she WAS young, cute, and sexy. I had a fun night with her and there was no need to buy her a drink. She already had one and we left pretty soon after we met. Ha Ha.
Oher times I have had fun drinking, dirty dancing, and making out with girl (s) in the bar and running up a tab. It all depends on my mood and the girl or girls I pick up. It varies. But CJ's remains a pretty good bar to find girls if you ask me.
I had developed a rather unfavourable view of CJ's from my last couple of visits, but given the reports here recently I gave it a shot (I was in Jakarta over the weekend for a few days, report to follow) and I found 2 very good picks. Reasonable price too.
As usual I had a great time and of course Jenny and Fabio put on a good show. Surprised that they remembered me, as the last time I set foot in CJ's was back in 2017.

My buddies often want to meet up there after work, but I normally take a pass. I bet that pot bellied guy used to be the singer for a band called Java Beat that plays Liquid exhange, hard rock and Eastern promise. If so, that guy is a very good singer. For some reason, he has not sung with Java Beat for months now after having been with them for years. I'll have to go check them out. He was the best thing about that Java Beat band.

And he obviously knew what he was doing. The lead singer of the band playing that night was a very tall, big built Indo chap wearing Lennon specs and a hat.
I tip my hat to you for your extensive knowledge of good and mediocre live bands around the city, I have made notes for my next visit.
Got into town on Saturday by 6 pm in the evening and checked in at Novotel Gajah Mada. Met a local friend for a few drinks and then headed to Classic. Found a very pretty 22 yo from Bandung named Aulia. Got my rocks off with her after a good session. By 11.30 pm we headed to CJ's. The place was packed, so we stood at the bar with our drink when a waiter recognised me and started chatting. Slipped him 10 K to find a table and that worked like magic. Got us a place right at the center communal table.
At around 12 midnight there must have been at least 50 girls in the bar, and several were young and pretty. Before long I chatted with one named Sisilia, who claimed to be 20 yo, still in University, freelancing on occasional nights to make an extra buck to support her lifestyle. But she said she could only stay ST, so I quickly passed. Before I finished my second beer I found another pretty 24 yo named Ayu. The usual exchange of pleasantries done, we down to business. She wanted 2 mn, and I offered 1. 6 mn and a tip if I was happy with her performance. Deal done, we left the place by 2 am. Excellent pick from all perspectives. Stayed till 10 am the next day, total GFE, with the morning fuck turning out to be a BB session.
After she left I had time to kill till 4 pm, so I caught up on some work. This IMHO is a challenge in Jakarta, unless you have a long list of contacts you can call over for day time action before 4 pm. Started swiping on Tinder and Badoo and got quite a few hits, but none were willing to come immediately. So I made appointments for the next few days. By 4 pm got around to Classic. Round 1 at the 2nd floor and Round 2 at the 5th floor. The girl on the 2nd floor was a 20 yo super slim girl named Novita with giant tits. I could have come simply by playing with those tits. The girl on the 5th floor was a super cute 22 yo named Pipit who was up for everything (if you know what I mean). Both superb sessions, complete VFM.
Got back to the hotel by 8 pm to meet another local friend for dinner. Headed to BATS by 12 midnight and the place was rather dead. So much so, they did not even charge the 150 K cover fee to get in. Still managed to find a decent girl named Nadya who claimed to be 22 yo but I think she must have been at least 26. We agreed at 1. 5 mn plus tip. Back in the room this girl literally sucked me dry with an hour long BBBJ with CIM which she gladly swallowed. I got a real kick out of sipping my drink and pulling on a cigarette while this girl was doing her work on my loins. Strangely, the morning sex wasn't as good and she left by 8 am.
Now I turned my focus to my appointments. A cutie named Ichayu was supposed to turn up at 1230 pm. A quick check confirmed that things were running on track. Caught up on sleep for a couple of hours. The girl came on time and stayed for around 90 minutes. Nothing remarkable about the session, paid her 500 K. After she left I slept for another 2 hours and then went to Classic by 6 pm. Found a 21 yo cutie from Semarang named Adel who was probably the best fuck at Classic on this trip.
The next one was a 24 yo sales promotion girl who worked at Seibu in Grand Indonesia. She had agreed she would come over by 9 pm after she finishes her work. She had agreed to stay LT and money was never discussed. And she arrived by 10 pm. Cute as a button and very GFE. I had also agreed to meet a few local friends at Cazbar (see other post) by 11 pm, so I decided to take her along with me for a few drinks. The girl was a little stressed as she had not idea of this place and was worried about being seen with a foreigner. I assured her that it would be all OK and so we went to Cazbar. Had a great time there and in retrospect bringing her along was a good decision. She loosened up with a couple of rum and cokes, shook a leg and generally had a good time too. Back in the room by 2 am, we had an absolutely fantastic time, we hardly slept and went at it like rabbits. Fucked her thrice before she left at 8 am. Slipped 2 mn into her purse which she did not notice until later. She called me later around noon and asked me why I gave her money. The usual spiel. I wanted to buy something for you, but no time. So please buy something nice for yourself and send me a picture.
There is something unique about doing these sideline girls, the way the provide raw unfiltered GFE is mesmerizing. Easily the best sex on the trip. Did I mention it was all BB.
Tuesday was my last full day in town and I was expecting a girl named Aquila who works as a credit officer at Mandiri Bank. Tuesday being a holiday she agreed to come see me in the afternoon for lunch. She arrived at 12 noon and I took her to Bakmi GM for a cheap and cheerful lunch for which she was very happy. Got back to the room and got a longish ST session with 2 pops from her. What made this session even more exciting for me was the fact that the girl turned up to visit me wearing a hijab. And I got her to keep the hijab on while banging her. A bucket list item. Again, since no money was discussed I put 600 K in her purse for which she was very happy.
Later by 5 pm I went to Classic again, 2nd floor. Found a very tall slim chick on the darker side named Tika. Good session as usual. Classic has got to be the best VFM model in the city, there is no question about that.
Got back to the hotel and relaxed for a while, then went to CJ at around 11 pm. This time the place was absolutely dead, with less than 25 girls and probably even fewer men. But lady luck was smiling on me, and I managed to bag the 21 yo Lisna who was probably the only doable chick at that time. The timing here was crucial, a minute late and she might have been snapped up by another guy across the table who was eyeing her and preparing to make his move. He kept giving me dirty looks for the next 30 minutes. I feel for you bro if you are on this forum and you are reading this.
Lisna had the best body on this trip, cracking Indo butt and toned body resulting from dedicated gym time. I fucked her thrice before she left in the morning by 10 am, all three times in doggy. For obvious reasons. I gave her 1. 8 mn as agreed. After she left I slept for a couple of hours. Checked out at 1 pm and headed to CGK T3 for my flight back to SG.
Phew! I love Jakarta.
Hello fellow peeps,
I've been lurking here for a long time. And gained great pleasure and knowledge from everyone's experience. I've made plans to travel around Indonesia for 45 days and will be starting off in Jakarta from 19th for about 10 days. I have a question for the Jakarta regulars. Is it worth getting a private room close to the action (so I can bring the girls to my room)? Or is it better to depend on short time hotels? I'll mostly be backpacking so any money saved will be helpful. Also are FL's active on Tinder, badoo, wechat etc or will I have more luck at clubs and bars? Any advice will be helpful. This is my third trip to SEA. The first two times were to Thailand.

Just curious.
Thanks, Bob.

Thanks, Bob.
All of them through dating apps like Tinder and Badoo. No pre-trip preparation necessary in my opinion.
Usually your Tinder / Badoo account will blow up with matches and you will have a hard time choosing. If you are there on ground for a longer time (say over 2 weeks or more) then you should be able to get almost all your lays through dating apps.
If course one has to be fit, clean, generous and able to hold a conversation. If you can speak Bahasa then you have an advantage. Also, unlike Thailand and the Philippines I do not see young girls hanging out freely with old bald fat men. It's a rather conservative society on the surface.
