In my experience (as a black person myself, though not 6'4") you won't have much to worry about. Think you can relax. GENERALLY speaking (and realize that this is a generalization so is certainly not always true), street "thugs" and corrupt Mexican cops aren't looking to target us black folk. Their targets tend to be people who they think would be easier to "pick on" and people who they think they would most likely be able to hit up for $$$ (I. E. , clean-cut, reasonably dressed white dudes). I've been across the border dozens of times and have yet to have a negative encounter with Mexican police or any civilian. My one experience with a cop down there was actually positive. But part of avoiding issues I think is dressing down and keeping a low profile.
