Negotiating can be tricky because the typical guy is new to this and might cave if a girl asked for a higher number, thinking he might lose his chance if he tries to haggle. But knowing that most girls take 10 k or 20 k, it's best to do as you did and give the number yourself first. Instead of asking "How much".
