Comming to Europe? - Going to Switzerland? Do not even try to get some entertainment there. Go to Germany instead. Switzerland is small and it takes you by car 1- 2 hours to be in Germany. Much better choice and very much cheaper! - Alternatively take on your way back TAP to the US. They fly Zurich. Lisbon (maybe with a few days lay-over? And from Lisbon to La Guardia. (I only want to do only some good for the Portuguese economy. Ha, ha, . Please spend some of your hard-earned Dollars in Lisbon).

Everyday (Monday to Friday) is "Consumao" at Cancun now. That is, the BR60 is automatically credited to the guest for drinks and food up to the BR60 of the entry fee if you choose to do so, add more if you decide to do or consume extra stuff. If you drink more, that will be added to your bill. So, for example, you consume a Sparkilng Water (BR10), three beers (BR10) and have a pizza (BR20), you still only pay the BR60 entrada if you don't do anything else. Spend more and of course they will add that to your bill.

I feel sorry for Rick. I stayed at one of his places almost every time I went to Sosua and got to know him a bit. Hes going to lose his business hes going to lose his wife and will never be able to return to the DR again, his life is over. I would agree with what an earlier poster stated he probably did nothing more than what these major corporations are doing with their government contracts. Only with Rick the CEO did not become the Vice President which allowed his former company to bilk 30 billion in what was termed as waste fraud and abuse from the wars in the Middle East and Central Asia. No ones going to jail over that.

Why he made himself so visual on the internet and in Sosua with his business knowing he had this hanging over him ill never know and was stupid in my opinion. There's a lot of Canadians in Sosua and it would take long for one of them to put two and two together and for him to be discovered. If it was me I would of ran farther stayed quitter and been a moving target switching from country to country every few months. It was not smart of him to have been so visual and to have stayed so long in the DR.

I wish him well and hope he can still have some kind of life in Canada after he is released.

VM Rio report.

Well got back into Rio on Sunday morning, and the plan was a nice breakfast and a good snooze to prepare myself for my maiden trip to the famous Vila Mimosa.

And that's exactly what I did, waking up rested and ready to go.

Since I left my hotel in Leblon early, at about 3 pm, I figured I had time to take a stroll down the street paralleling the beach.

Hadn't done that yet.

Fun to people watch, and getting to know the area a little.

I'm used to leaving my hotel in Sao Paulo knowing the city like the back of my hand.

Now in Rio, I'm basically lost, LOL, but learning more every day.

Anyway, after getting directions from various people along the way, I made my way to the Metro for my trip to VM.

Followed Bubba's Metro guidance, then grabbed a taxi and 7 R later, I'm there.

My first impressions of VM:

-Smaller area than expected.

-Not nearly as nasty as expected, been to way worse in SP and other places in South and Central America.

Don't get me wrong, you should be on guard at VM for sure, but if you take the usual precautions and you're not an idiot, you'll be fine.

The most danger I felt was on my way home to the beach area.

I think my motorista was sh. T faced drunk, I almost bailed out, LOL.

Anyway, back to the VM event.

Since it was my first time there, I took a walk about the area, checking out the scene.

As I walked past all the barzinhos (little bars), of course I stuck my head in checking out the available garotas.

On my first pass I spotted 2 or 3 that I liked, but wanted to talk to each of them first, before selecting.

I have been bit of lurker on this forum, but I have now registered, so hopefully I can start to give back. I am planning a trip to Rio mid June, and I was wondering which 4 or 5 star Ipanema and Copacabana hotels are girl friendly. I am happy to book a room for double occupancy, but still not clear which ones are OK with visitors. I have RTFF but there isn't much mention.
