and that rewe actually won the german supermarket of the year award once a couple of years ago. i guess that is altenstadt's current claim to fame. i also wonder how many fewer speeding ticket revenues they get with all those speed photo cameras they had set up to catch eager mongers.

Greenbacks to Euros
Hi all!
I'm a first timer who'll be in Frankfurt soon, and thanks to the years of collective experience here in this wonderful forum I actually feel that I have a decent chance of making it through my first FKK experience :)
One question that I've not found an answer through searching the forum is this: Where do you guys go for the most favorable USD - Euro exchange rate, or any other currency -> Euro for that matter?
Thanks in advance,
Portraiture
That's a damn good question and probably deserves a lot of experienced answers from various forum members. I have AN answer, but certainly not THE answer:
If I haven't brought back enough kicking around euros from my last trip, I get just enough kicking around money here in the States from my bank (Commerce Bank) so that I don't have to worry about incidentals like cab fare, restaurant money & tips, etc. when I step off of the plane - usually 500 Euro. This is an expensive business for me because they add on a "convenience" kicker to whatever the daily euro rate is, and it's kind of pricey. But it puts euros in your pocket before you ever leave home. Note: not all banks handle foreign exchange.
The add-on price is something you'll have to deal with no matter what, though, because unless you're buying Euro's by the armored truck load, you aren't going to get them at the daily posted rate that you can find on internet conversion sites. Everybody in the money trade business is going to have an additional fee, usually percentage points.
Anyway, once I'm there in Europe I use my Commerce Debit Card instead of a regular credit card to make daily or every other day withdrawals from bank ATM's in Germany. You'll need a debit card that also functions as a Visa card to make that happen (I think). Anyway, that's what mine is. The fee rate is lower than just converting sawbucks into euros at some money exchange place. And never, never, never take American Express checks. I did that the first time I went to Amsterdam many years ago, and got ripped off by the highest percentage of any money-exchange scheme.
The German ATM's (Geldautomats) will give instructions in several languages, including English, and aren't any more difficult to operate than American ATM's.
Whitey
(Okay, I'm done. Now some other monger can chime in and point out what a dufus I am because they have a WAY better scheme for converting to euros. Bring it on. I'm all for cheaper ways to do things!)

Atm
Generally anywhere in the world an ATM machine is going to give you the best rate.
You might want to check with your home bank in case they have an agreement with any particular bank for no or lowered fees on their ATM's. for example, with my Deutsche Bank card I can get money at any Bank of america Branch with no ATM fee. The Bank to Bank Rate via ATM is pretty good, and pretty close to what I get when I use a credit card abroad.
Germany has excellent infrastructure, and tonnes of ATM's, so the chances that you will have a problem finding one that works are very small.
that being said, nothing sucks more than if you get here and then discover your Bank Card doesn't work and you cannot monger.
For that eventuality I would advise you take enough cash in your home currency to cover your whole trip including mongering and Hotel costs, just in case nothing else works (has happened to me on trips where neither my credit card nor bank card would work.
You keep this home currency money safe, and in case nothing else works, at least you can transfer this money and still save your mongering experience.
If you don't have to use it, then just take it home with you, and since it is in your currency you have no costs other than the minimal interest you are missing.
-
germany has excellent infrastructure, i totally agree. and there is no speed limit that is just great.
no it is only in germany the fkk-clubs can evolve, germany is one of the best organized countries in the world. it isn`t for the old german saying "ordnung muss sein" . it is great an it works.
-
I was in Frankfurt a week or so ago and had problems getting money from ATMs.
First off, you've got to find them - not quite as commonplace as here in the UK. The main railway station has one for sure and that worked fine with any of my Visa debit/credit cards, whereas some others I came across wouldn't accept any of my cards as they were issued by non-German banks - the ATM near the desk at The Palace accepts German cards only (and a 5% charge I think for using it) - supposed to be a normal ATM near by though but I never saw it.
You really need to be near the main station or shopping area to find any and that's on pretty much the other side of the city from The Palace for example.
Still suprised what with the amount of banks etc in the city how hard it is to find one.

Berlin fkk
I am going to visit berlin next week any fkk in berlin with preety girls that do extras as bbj cim . thanks
-
Will,
The train station is not a good neighbourhood and doesn't have a lot of ATM's. Palace is in an industrial area, and they tend not to have banks, If you go downtown or to a shopping area there are always tonnes of bank machines around. All the ones at banks take international cards, as long as those are in the Maestro or Plus network (you should see that sympbol on the back of your card). Because there are fees for usage at a lot of banks, you should take as much out per withdrawal as you think you will need. do it all in one go.
In the small towns where many FKK's are they usually only have a Sparkasse (with the Red S symbol) and Volksbank. These are more Credit Unions than real banks, but they are the only game in town in a lot of these small towns.
22,
RTFF! But the names of the clubs worth visiting in Berlin are FKK Artemis or Club La Folie. Use those search terms and you will find plenty of info. And the service the girls offer is up to them (above club standard BBBJ and covered sex) and not determined by any particular club. So you have to ask the provider.
-
thanks peter
I read some of the reviews about artemis and la folie . not very good . i am a first timer to an fkk . the best city and the best fkk as far as girls looks and the service that you can recomend i have few extra days .

ATM and Palace
There is an ATM not far away from Palace, and it is actually easy to find:
1. Directions from Palace: 3mnts walking distance.
Follow Königbergstrasse 30 meters to the right, then take Neue Börsenstrasse 200 meters to the right. You will pass Insterburgerstrasse on the way and finally reach Trakehner Strasse. The Geldautomat (ATM) is on the other side of the crossroad of Neue Börsenstrasse/Trakehner Strasse (Degussa Bank).
2. Directions from the infamous IBIS hotel in Breitenbachstrasse 7: 2 mnts walking distance.
Follow Trakehner Strasse (which starts right outside the hotel) 50 meters until it crosses Neue Börsenstrasse. The ATM (Geldautomat) is on your left before the crossroad (Degussa Bank). After cashing out, just follow Neue Börsenstrasse 200 meters to the right until it reaches Königbergstrasse. Palace is then 30 meters to your left.
3. Directions from U-Bahn stop "Industrihof/Neue Börse":
Cross the rails to the infamous brickwall. Follow this to the left for approx 100 meters to IBIS Hotel. Then follow directions under (2) above.
Now, should the Geldautomat in Trakehner Strasse/Neue Börsenstrasse be empty, it is just another clear sign that I was there a few minutes before on my way to Palace to enjoy myself silly ... Have mercy! *grin*.

ATM on the way to world
If you are on your way to World via A5 and need some extra cash, there is an ATM at Rasthauf Wetterau (not sure about spelling). It is a Shell gas station with a restaurant 50 feet further. The restaurant has ATM inside. The Rasthauf is aprox 20 km before you exit A5 to World (that is if you exit at the Fernwald exit).
I usually get my extra cash there as I would hate to have to find out the World ATM not working (remember couple of times it was not working. Luckily I had enough cash at the time).

Rent a camper
Crazy? No. But is it not awfully cold in the winter to sleep in the car? I bet that you would not be doing that at the moment with all of the winter storms and snow chaos. ....
Rent a VW or similar camper, which has a built in heater! Cost only a few Eu more than avrg car.
I cruise by motorhome and park right at the FKK's premises. Google with 'motohome rental Germany. http://fkkguide.cyberfreehost.com

Seperate but equal?
If the FKKs discriminate, it's not illegal at all since they are private clubs and not public accommodations. Just like most better nightclubs and discos with doormen and dress code. This is based on past bad experiences with cultural insensitivity or bad behavior of certain groups and not ideological racism.
At the club I ran a few years ago, we got them all, and let them all come in, if they could pay the entry fee, but occasionally ejected one or two drunks, mysogennists, loudmouths, fight-pickers, ect which came from all races and classes.
Among the good clients we had laborers, farmers, office geeks, teachers, artists, movie and popstars, politicians, disabled, barely legal aged and >70 olds, blacks, Asians, Jews, Arabs, Turks ect, ect...even Aryans...
Even if a FKK has a selective door policy they will usually let anybody nice in upon referral by a guide as myself. http://fkkguide.cyberfreehost.com
Rayboy,
sorry to hear about it but Freudenberg is a club that is very open about their racial policy. It says so on their home page, it says so in the newspaper, they are quite clear about it. It says German Run and for Germans only, but our friends from holland are welcome as well. On their home page guestbook a swede asks what about swedes, and they say people from northern climes are welcome, it is targeted mainly at southerners.

IBIS hotel?
Please excuse my ignorance, but why this IBIS hotel near FKK Palace so infamous? Am I missing something?
-
Infamous Ibis
I think that's just a flip term. It's no Gem of German Hotelery, though, I'll tell you that. I've stayed there before. There's a fairly decent little eatery there which is open for some hours of the day, although I don't remember it being open at night. And there's a little micro-bar right inside the main entrance, next to the reception counter, where you can buy booze. I don't drink, but I have bought cola there to take up to the room. 2 euro, I think, for a very small bottle of coke. If you want to make a monger report from there for some reason, you have to do it right out in the lobby seating area where anybody walking by can see what you're writing or looking at.
It's a business hotel in an industrial area of Hausen, which is a district north and a little west of the Hauptbanhoff, maybe 6km (I'm just guessing about the distance - it's 12 minutes by cab, unless the traffic is bad, which it IS in the morning). My back-facing room had a magnificent third-floor view of some long 3-story office building right across a parking lot. I watched some people through their windows wandering around what appeared to be a lab of some sort, moving things around. Unbelievably interesting.
The bed was slab-hard and the room was spartan in appearance. The closest American equivalent would be Motel 6 quality. Not Motel 6 price, though.
The two redeeming features are 1) you can get on the U-bahn after about a 2-minute walk and haul ass back downtown on the 6 or 7 line where things are more interesting, and 2) as someone elsewhere famously said: "it's a five-minute walk to FKK Palace, and a 20-minute walk back." :~)
