after gathering enough courage, i decided to visit gb road in delhi. it is located near ajmere gate and after getting lost numeours times, i finally managed to locate it.

I completely understand your feelings. But, now that I think of it, I didn't take necessary precautions there:

1. If you are traveling by car, park it near the Railway Station. Then, catch a rickshaw to GB Road. That way, you won't attract as much attention.

2. Don't carry any valuables with you to GB Road. Only carry Rs. 500 or so and your keys. Leave the rest in your car preferably in the boot so no one can see.

3. Apparently, Kotha No. 64 is supposed to be good with Nepalis. Anyone what to come along with me and give it a try?

4. Don't dress too smartly since most of the customers on GB Road are laborers and rickshaw wallas. Try to blend in by wearing shabby type of clothing.

Unless you are going to a known joint (this applies to any city/ location in India) leave your mobile, wallet, jewelery, all other valuables in the hotel/ car. I generally leave even the car keys with the parking attendant, and carry only the parking receipt. Carry only the amount that you want to spend plus a tip for the girl. It is always better to divide the cash in to two and stuff it in different pockets. Keep some EMERGENCY money in a discreet location, not easy to reach ( secret trouser pockets are NOT so secret).

Using cell phones to contact providers is the best way. In your own interest make sure that the phone is in your name, especially with security being tight in Delhi and elsewhere. I am sorry to hear about the bad experiences of Singaa and Mrpusa.

I assume that dalal = tout. Is this correct? One of the first lessons I learned about mongering anywhere in the world is, "Never follow a tout".
