East China - Shanghai

Another shop in Minhang reported raided and closed with a police seal on it.
Between the anti pornography campaign, the upcoming cny and the new Shanghai PSB & Vice mayor being appointed 4 days ago, lets say things will still be very windy probably until CNY.

Until December the new guy in charge was Henan's police chief and vice governor and early December had been appointed Shanghai police college director. I guess he knows his job.
Everyone has to show the new guy in town they are good with their stats in the meantime.

The chinese site is still running btw, try the .us extension :)

It's in the highrise building on the North-East corner of Fumin and Julu Lu. Entrance on ground floor from Julu Side. Level 1 has a restaurant, lvl 2 the massage place. It's a popular as a veggie place (and never raided) but also has the added option I described. Ask for nr 6 to give you the 598 RMB option. Have not tried in the new year yet.

The intel in this forum is amazing, very accurate, and most importantly, it is timely. It's just too much to summarize. But if you want to have fun but also stay out of trouble, then spend a couple of hours reading the forum to get up to speed.

BTW, isn't it amazing how things are almost normal here compared to the states? It's like we live in an surreal bubble.

I've known many people that came back to China from the states. The two week quarantine takes place in a hotel barely better than a Hanting. You cannot go out of your room, but they bring you food, you have TV, and you have WiFi. They test you every day, and they do the nose test way aggressively. It hurts like hell. It's as if they are trying to get the tip to touch your brain. But once you're free, it feels surreal to be out in SH. It's as if there is no CV in this world. Packed gyms, subways, restaurants, malls, bars, etc. Like we're living in this bizarre bubble.

I've been trying to open it for a few days without luck. Seems to be blocked. It's a pity because it was my go-to place. Aish123 is working though, but that's only covering Shanghai and not much help for those of us who are in the surrounding cities.

This may very much change week-by-week, but my own experience and others (all arriving from Europe) is that if you have a residential address in SH and no cases on your flight you can do quarantine days 8-14 in the comfort of your own home (and local building mngt is responsible for ensuring that you're not going outside. At all). While in quarantine (days 1-7) there is a range of hotels, all basic but very much varying in 'friendliness' and quality of service. It does seem to depend quite a lot on the Shanghai District where you happen to live. In any hotel you will of course be treated as if you're a grenade with biological warfare material that is ready to explode at any moment. But you can still order from taobao, epermarket etc (instant coffee is a life saver) though no fresh items (or curiously anything in a glass container).

Unless you're a V-V-VIP there is no way to predict or arrange which hotel you're staying in. In my case the people were just herded together to get on one of the two daily buses, and basically at the time of bus departure called around to the various quarantine hotels to see which had enough free hotel rooms.

It's fantastic to be free to eat out, drink and monger but the government is very nervous and things may change at a moment's notice. Travel (and holiday) within China is totally possible but local governments don't use uniform rules to judge who needs to be quarantined and will be severely punished is they fuck up (for allowing 300 cases in Shijiazhuang in Hebei, the mayor has 'disappeared') so you need to forgive them sometimes erring on the side of caution.

Board has been quiet lately. Not sure if anyone mentionned it but jiangning yu has been closed for total refurbishing.

They plan on it being closed around 3 months and are totaly redecorating the place tearing walls down. Hope it won't turn veggie like for their 2 latest shop openings.
