Personally, I think your guesstimate is more in line with reality; however, if a person's only exposure to Thailand was Pattaya, they'd probably think the country is one big bordello. I think the point of this discussion was not so much the size of the industry but its durability. I think most of us agree Thailand's sex industry is not going to diminish, let alone disappear.

Yeah, I know, it's the world's oldest profession and can be found in any country. However, there is no place like Thailand. The openness, the variety, a BJ, bar, various massage types, Thermea coffee house, Eden club, nana, and so on. It all leads to the appeal of a one of a kind experience. It's like the bar scene in star trek, it's a bit of a freak show and we mongers love it. It's walking into a bar where everyone knows you're they to pay for some pussy and no one cares and fully supports your actions. It's a little bit of a series of unique experience rolled into one place and essentially at your finger tips that makes it so great.

Over the many years of visiting Thailand, I did not see any significant long term change, but my experience is of course anecdotal. It looks there is more day-to-day change than long term change. You can compare it with weather and climate change: arctic storms in New York don't mean there is no global warming and the warm winter now in Europe doesn't prove there is global warming.

Some bars and clubs improve, other places decline. Your experience will be colored by the places you visited.

The scene is still huge and will remain so for a few more years, but there seem to far fewer new entrants to the market than just 5-8 years ago. You just don't see that many 20-22 year-olds these days. However, the established workers are NOT exiting in droves, and they're always the vast majority, and this leads many people to an impression that the scene is stable.

One thing I'm 100% sure about is that Sukhumwit and Pattaya Beach Road freelancer scenes pretty much took a nosedive compared to 5 years ago, let alone earlier times. Most sex workers these days are hardened pros, and finding low-mileage part-timers with a day job (or university students) is almost impossible. And it was somewhat common in the good old times.

I do not look at it as growing or shrinking? To me it is revolving! The problem is for short time visitors you just don't have luxury of waiting for it to come around again? What is certain is if you are waiting for the price to drop or thinking about how it use to be don't hold your breath!

I was there in November 2013 and it's still paradise / heaven on Earth and far surpasses every other monger destination I've visited. And in November Beach Road promenade still had a free lancer practically next to every palm tree at the peak of the evening.

IMHO, Pattaya is a shadow of its former self. I predict within a few short years, it will not be worth the expense and trek to come out here for mongers.
