Le Soleil de Boracay review
I was in Boracay for a few days last week, and thought I would post a quick review of the hotel I stayed at: Le Soleil de Boracay (http://www.lesoleil.com.ph/).
I booked through hotels.com vs. the le soleil hotel website, as the rate was cheaper for the superior deluxe room ($94 / night vs. PHP 6000 aka $140 / night).
The hotel is right in the middle of white beach, which made it very convenient. They have lounge chairs and umbrellas right on the beach during the day, then replace them with tables and chairs for their dinner buffet every night.
The room came with breakfast, and I found their breakfast buffet satisfactory, with a decent selection of the usual (eggs, sausage, fruit, breads, etc.) , though I would not call it a regal spread by any means.
The room I got was on the first floor next to the pool. This was convenient, but not very private. The result was that I kept the window blind closed most of the time, resulting in a very dark room. This of course is fine for engaging in extracurricular activities, but made it all but impossible to get good lighting for indoor photography (I prefer sunlight to flashes).
The superior deluxe room comes with one double bed and one twin bed. The double was adequate for a large westerner plus a small filipina, though I would have preferred a king or queen bed. The extra single bed only saw use as a luggage storage accessory. I don't know why they don't offer larger beds in non-suite rooms. They should just get rid of the extra single and put in queens.
The bathroom had the usual sink and toilet. Not a lot of counter space though. The shower was a large walk-in variety with room for two, a feature I definitely took advantage of ;)
There is no internet in the rooms, though there is public wifi available in the lobby and at the pool. However, it was very slow and kept timing out regularly. I ended up just sticking to my SmartBro wireless adapter as it was faster and more reliable.
What else...CRT for a television vs. flat screen, but no big deal there. Had the usual type of in room safe that seemed...well, somewhat safe. The air conditioning worked well, but was a bit loud. The pool bar makes an ok margarita, but better ones are available at most of the bars along the beach.
Would I stay there again? Maybe. The price was right, and nothing about the hotel was bad except the internet access, but I would much prefer a larger bed, a bit more privacy, and a beach view vs. A pool view. To be honest, even thought I was not unsatisfied by any means, I'll probably look elsewhere next time.

Secret Gems in the Visayas & Palawan
The Visayas is like a necklace of gems all strung together in a wedge separating Luzon from Mindanao. Both Luzon (far North and Far Southeast) and Mindanao (All along the East coast) have some excellent beaches too, but the real gems are in Visayas (Palawan too but I know it much less well).
IMHO Malapascua is WAY overrated, small and crowded with parked boats blocking most of the beach, smoky from fires, and with shit diving no better than the rubble of Mactan). It has nice White sand and deep blue water, however. Try Bantayan Island, about an hour South of Malapascua, instead. Or Bohol and Camgiuin just Southeast of Cebu. Or the Camotes islands to the Northeast. Or Romblon to the Northwest. Or Negros to the West which has its most epic beach (Sipalay) on the West coast. 3 hours from an airport or port, but has many others of quality, no doubt as I saw many on the coast, both from Bacolod in the North to Dumaguette in the South-we did an open jaw. Even the small islands just North of Boracay like Carabao Island offer escapes from the hordes.
Sabang beach in Puerto Galera is shit. Compared to Subic or Malate, its ok I guess, but no need to swim there when about 30 minutes trike ride West, just past White beach, lies the real World class beach of Northern Mindoro Aninuan. No pics of Sabang to compare but Aninuan is sublime. White Beach is 10 times better than Sabang, but it is quite developed and crowded; but hike 15 minutes further West over the rocks, or 5 minutes along the road by trike. First pics are White beach from the restaurant on the hill on the way to Aninuan, then Aninuan itself. GREAT restaurants, best outside Makati, around PG.
Great report Surfer, I really enjoyed reading it and agree with your point of view.
I spent a week in Sabang, Palawan on my first trip to PI this last February. I really liked the island and the beach in particular. Flying over Palawan from Manila you can see how green and verdant the island is. There are not a lot of people here. Once you get out of Puerto Princessa, which compared to Manila or AC is a beautiful city (LOL) , the beautiful tropical landscape starts to take over. Sabang Beach was real nice. There were two 'quality hotels' and a couple of backpacker cottages and not much else on the main beach. The village shut down after 8pm. There was nothing, not even a hut on the beautiful pristine second beach which is on the way to the Monkey Trail and the Subterranean river. The virgin tropical rain forest comes right down to the beach. I would spend hours on this beach and see no one. I want to take a girl here on my next trip and get laid on this beach.
I met an ex-pat and his pretty Filipina GF one night at my hotel bar. We got to talking. He has a house, a couple acres and a 32ft sail boat near Port Barton. He told me and I have no reason to doubt him,"that it gets better and better the farther north you go." Sabang, Palawan was one of the highlights of my last trip along with a session I had with a smoking hot Chinese girl in a Macau Sauna and a Japanese 141 hotel reservation girl I had in Hong Kong. I also enjoyed the AC bar girls and the action in Havana Café and Burgos Street. But Palawan is the main reason why I want to go back to PI. I can get laid in BKK, Pattaya, or Phnom just as easily as I can in AC or Manila and I don't think the Filipinas are any prettier or better in bed than their Thai or Khmer cousins. But most of the beaches I have been to in Thailand, and there are a lot of really pretty ones, are overdeveloped IMHO.
I first visited Phuket in 1980. We scuba dived off Phi Phi, which was uninhabited back then! I won't even talk about what it is like now. In 2002 I tried Ko Samui. It was too late! And in 2010 I tried Ko Chang and Ko Lanta. Both islands are quite beautiful but the beaches there are the perfect example of what I am talking about (overbuilding) and are no longer appealing. Ko Chang and Ko Lanta must have been fantastic 15-20 years ago. Today, my opinion again, it kind of sucks; too many hotels and too many tourists.
The same phenomenon is happening in the Philippines no doubt, but at a much slower pace. Boracay is the Phuket of the Philippines. No way do I want to go there. I know some guys may disagree with me. That's fine. This is my point of view: I like getting away from it all and I love beautiful semi unspoiled beaches. Loose women and virgin beaches, that's it for me. After reading your report and doing a little research on my own, I now am planning to visit Sipalay (Sugar Beach) , Negros in addition to Port Barton, Palawan. My tentative plans are Hong Kong – Macau – AC – Manila – Palawan – Cebu – Negros – MNL – Hong Kong. (HKG is my port of entry into SE Asia.) I like this itinerary because it intersperses mongering with beachcombing and I get the best of both worlds.
Again, thanks for the post. I appreciate it.
Sabang, Mindoro. Trip Report
I just left the Philippines having stayed for 6 days in Sabang, Mindoro Island for a short vacation whilst working in SE Asia for the last few weeks. I am a newbie to the Philippines but have experiences from many other parts of the world as my job involves regular travel. I chose to go to Sabang because it is not far from Manila so relatively easily accessible and also for scuba diving, my primary reason for vacation. I have not been anywhere else in PI, not even Manila though I have had pleasant experiences with Filipinas in Singapore in the past.
What is Sabang like? First of all it is a tiny place but with enough crammed in to keep me entertained for 6 days. Second there are quite a few European / American / Australian older males who stay here on a very low budget for months or more who really don't add much value to the place and to be honest are pretty washed up spending the majority of their time drinking cheap alcohol and slowly killing themselves but if that is your scene then fine. There are also a lot of Koreans here and Koreans own a number of the establishments. Talking to the girls, they are not very keen on the Koreans who tend to treat the girls openly as if they were in a meat market. There is just one tiny main strip that you can walk in around 5 minutes which hosts the bars and I think 5 girly bars plus 3 legit massage places.
I stayed at a place called Big Apple which is geared for divers with a very competent dive operation on site plus a 24 hour bar and sports bar staffed with cute waitresses (that are NOT available). I booked a superior room (quiet at the back) .2000 pesos per night, good value.
My days revolved around diving from 9am. The diving is the easiest anywhere with numerous good dive sites right off the beach. I would be all done by around 1. 30, have some lunch and then an hour massage at one of the legit places followed by an afternoon rest. Have a couple of early evening beers with the divers (I am not a big drinker) then some dinner. Then off to the main strip!
There are 5 girly bars otherwise known as discos called Pink Panther, Venus, Hammerhead, Sabang Village disco, Las Vegas and can't remember the other. I barfined a girl every night cost 1000 to the bar and 1000 for the girl (plus tip if she was good). The quality varies from bar to bar but generally there is something for everyone's taste. My preference is slim with a nice smile and although I sometimes get carried away and forget, with the brain in my dick taking over, I try to make sure the girl's attitude is right.
First night I took a girl from Venus mainly because I accidently walked into her entering the place and we hit it off there and then. She was tall for a Filipina, dark skinned, great smile and around 24. What a great pick, I was horny but she was hornier and we banged for hours. She was experienced for sure but such a great attitude and had me do what she wanted to make her cum, and I was happy to oblige! I took her again on the 3rd night and it was as if we were long separated lovers. Highlight of the night was banging her in the ass while we both rubbed her clit to her climax. I saw her a couple of nights later being taken away by some fat old guy and she flashed me a knowing smile, I had to laugh!
Second night I took a petite slim 18 year old from Las Vegas, nice enough but tame compared to night 1. She was very tight however but I made her bleed and she had to go off to get some medication for it (I think a common problem she has). But she did come back to my room at 7am to fuck me again, good girl!
Fourth night I wasn't planning to take a girl as I got involved in a local drinking event where some of the guys working there do the rounds in various bars (as I am no drinker I thought I wouldn't be able to perform after a session but I went easy on the beers) and we ended up in Las Vegas. I saw this absolute stunner, bit young really but 18, very slim and so pretty with a lovely smile. I started talking to her but she couldn't speak English, only Tagalog. Anyway translating through a friend, I found out she had just arrived the day before and had never been barfined before. Well she was just about to be! Took her back, she was very shy and nervous but after relaxing her I banged her 3 times. I can't say she was an active participant but I thoroughly enjoyed it even so.
Fifth night was a bit disappointing. Took a girl from Sabang Village Disco (Korean owned). She was only about 5ft and slim but didn't smile (I veered from my normal rules). Talking to her she was definitely a smart girl with long term plans but no apparent enthusiasm to fuck me. We did one round which was pretty good, she was athletic for sure but it all felt too mechanical. As I went to wash she was dressed ready to go. I had paid for all night but no point in forcing her to stay against her will, I put it down to experience and slept.
The following day I actually chatted to one of the bar girls wandering around during the day and got short time with her for 650, very nice 19 years old no English though, straight from the provinces!
The last night I went to Hammerhead and sat down to purvey the scene. Started talking to a girl who sat down beside me. 21, not a stunner but slim and a fucking amazing smile. When she started rubbing my crotch my mind was made up. Back in the room we talked and then got down to it, my God she was wet and horny. She said she had come down from Manila for just a weeks holiday (strange holiday) and I did believe her, and she wants my babies (seriously) insisting I shoot inside her, so I did, quite a few times we are now friends on fb.
I read that some people have had poor experiences with some of the bar girls. Well my advice is to put in some effort of your own if you want to have a good time by making them feel good and screening out the ones who are clearly less than interested in you until you can gauge there is a certain chemistry. If you are fat, middle aged and dressed in vest and shorts then no girl is going to have her juices flowing over you. I am not fat but I am in my 40s and don't mind putting in a bit of effort and charming the girls which on most occasions pays dividends.
In summary, I would have been bored shitless in Sabang if I had not been diving and would not recommend as a place for an active holiday (fucking aside). It's a small place and I was ready to leave after 6 days but those 6 days were fucking great fun.
CDO, Iligan, and Davao interest.
Could any one please let me know of the safey issues in these places as of late? There seem to be plenty of willing dia girls at all three.
Thanks.
Reports here or even PM would be perfect.

Thanks GE and RK. Perfect
Yes I agree reports are probably somewhere.
Perfect responses. Cdo and davao it will be then. Lots of young cute things in both areas. Many reluctantly willing dia husband-wanters, which implies the built in pleasures we all like.
Ill be there in two weeks for 2 weeks. Should be nice. Any further comments appreciated. Contacts, girl friendly places to stay, etc. But I'm fairly crafty so if not its ok too.
Great.
Great summary GE. Very accurate portrayal of the situation.
In fact, I would go further and suggest that for all you would-be DIA warriors, make either CDO or Davao your base for any girls based in Mindanao and request that all girls that you wish to meet come to see you there. Bus trips of 3 or 4 hours or more are the norm for them so if they really want to meet you then they will not baulk at the trip, but you might need to reassure them that you will give them the fare (and, as GE says, it won't be much).
The major problem with meeting women in their own home town is the fact that these places are small and the gossip mill is huge so they will be worried someone might see them with you and so will not be as relaxed with you as they might be away from home.
It might also be a way of sieving them out too. If you suggest that they come to meet you then that will imply an overnight stop with you so you can innocently ask if they are prepared to stay with you, alone, in your room, all night.
Yes means 'get on the bus"; No means "don't bother coming".
