Had my prostate etc. Checked at Chiang Mai Ram. Lab and doctor's fee were reasonable. I asked the Urologist about V. Then the in house pharmacists tried to sell me 4 tablets of Levitral for 2700 Baht, 675 Baht per tablet! I cancelled my order. Maybe they make their profit now, by selling overpriced medication to their farang patients? Or is it a fair price for the real stuff?

In the States and Canada it sells somewhere around $16.00-$18.00 per 20mg. I have always found CM-Ram a little more expensive than pharmacy's around town. But I think that is the case with any institution

Do a search for my posts in the Chiang Mai forum, I'm pretty sure I wrote a report here .. the name is in Thai, I just went in and looked lost and someone eventually came to offer me girls.

Prescriptions at the CM Ram Hospital are inflated. Tell the doctor BEFORE he fills out prescription that you insist the prescription be given directly to YOU and not delivered by the nurse to the Prescription counter in the Ram. Take the prescription to any drug store and get a much better price. The doctor will squirm and insist that he will "get in trouble" with the hospital, but thank him for his efforts and INSIST.
Did a "look-see" at the Hillside Hotel Sauna around 11 pm. Selection was either fat or ugly and the price quoted was 2,500 and 2,000, we laughed and walked out. Went over to the Phu Come Hotel Sauna, selection was a bit better, prices quoted the same. I told him I heard the going rate was 1,000 and 1,400 and he immediately agreed to it. Took one of the 1k girls who actually looked better than the so called models. First was the bath for two which was nice, then a quick shitty massage, followed by a decent ride.
Phu Come is not bad if you need a release, but still better to travel outside of CM.

The normal price at Hillside should be 1000 for one hour, and 1200 for 1.5 to 2 hours. If they don't know you or you don't speak Thai it might be a little hard to get these prices.
I don't much bother with the soapies on the west side of town anymore, mainly I just go to Sayuri, since it has better selection and better looking girls (usually).
Anybody in CM at the moment able to comment on safety for tourists given the Red Shirt Raid on the Gov't Building recently? Also, how bearable is the smog from all the brushfires. Air quality an issue?

Thanks[/QUOTE]Am in Chiangmai presently. Other than a few vans sporting red flags, I haven't seen anything like protests. The town is in full songkran mode now so the only risk is getting a bucketful of icy water on your face.
Air quality is ok although very humid for some reason ;)

All is quite up in CM. There's one area of town that is a red shirt rally area, near the East side of the moat, but you if avoid that area (Just in case), you will be fine here. Can't miss the area, got a big red flag flying and some tires for barricades.

Near Thapae Gate? that is center of east side of moat.
On a recent trip with Mrs D to CM we headed out to the night bazaar a couple of nights in a row. After walking she usually feels like a foot massage so we headed back down Loi Kroh and picked out a couple of 'respectable' massage places - she could spot the dodgy ones :-)
