There has been No Mention of ANYTHING of this nature.

The biggest crime news story in Curaçao of late has been the escape of 4 convicts from the Island’s Bon Futuro Prison on March 17th.
None of these convicts had any connection to Campo Alegre, just 4 local bad ass guys in for murder & robbery.

I searched CNN's archives and Google’s News search engine.
Nothing.

I get daily e-mails concerning 'anything' to do with Curaçao & a number of other locations forwarded to me by Google Alerts.
Nothing.

Lots of political & travel news, but again nothing of any “Armed Raid” on Campo Alegre which would certainly be reported.

The murder of Giovanni van Ierland was heavily covered and reported on US & Dutch news sites and was also reported on the US State Department site.

There has been reports from Forum Members who have visited Campo Alegre within the last 2 weeks
In addition to a Forum Member who lives on the island from reading his reports.
Again, Nothing.

I would have to assume this ‘person’ in San Jose, Costa Rica does not have a flipping clue as to what the hell he is talking about.

I wonder what he had been drinking or ingesting before you met him.....

If this had taken place ALL the news sites would have had an Absolute Field Day with "Murder Rampage At Hidden Caribbean Brothel".

I would think if someone did what this guy reported, it would make every paper, tv report. It would look like a terrorist attack, or a Colombine type attack. Throw in the prostitution angle, too.

On a more important note, tell me what you think of the quality of the girls in the pictures. I have heard conflicting reports about the quality of girls at Campo. The one's in the pictures look pretty decent. How do they compare to the majority of girls at the compound? I am planning a trip this summer.

There have been shootings in campo but that was a long time ago like 2 year when VIP didn't go to though were they search you for weapons and 2 guys had a problem in campo and he shot 2 guys

Finalizing a virgin trip to Campo. I would like to keep it basic my first time.
Wondering what you think of Howard Johnson's as a place to stay? I know it's the cheapest on all the Orbitz, Travelocity, and Expedia sites. It's close to the airport.

How close is it to Campo? Is it a safe, simple place to stay? I know the island is small but would rather be close to the night action as opposed to the day action.

I can get Ho Joes for 4 nights and a rent a car for $550 on Orbitz using a discount code.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Ho-Jo's is in between the Hato Airport & Campo Alegre.
It is only 1 mile Door to Door. It would be less than a 2-3 minute drive to Campo.
This Ho-Jo's is not a highly rated hotel, but your safety would be fine.
As anywhere, just watch your back.

The Ho-Jo's in downtown Willemstad is a much nicer place to stay, also chica friendly,
but a 15-20 minutes drive & likely a little more expensive.
I have stayed at the in town hotel, it was fine.

Your $550 works out to $137/day for room & car. Not bad, car is at least $35-$40, so the room is $90-$100/night.
If you plan on spending most of your time at Campo you are at the nearest hotel & I think they have a pool.
Do Keep The Car. It is a long, dusty, dark 1 mile walk and that is not a safe walk to do at night.
Have fun, Curaçao & Campo Alegre are well worth the trip.
