Chinese Vax: Will history repeat itself?
Since I work in a COVID vaccine clinic, just a bit of advice to you guys:
-Don't take the chinese "killed virus" vaccines, only about 55% effective. Even their scientists say they are not good. China gave a lot of vaccine to many countries including PHIL.
-For you guys, the Astra-Zeneca-Oxford vaccine and the J&J vaccine (if available) are OK (most risk in younger women). The AZ vaccine is preferred as it provides more protection and is a 2 dose vaccine compared to the J&J vaccine.
-Russian Sputnik V seems good also based on published data in a major medical journal with a good reputation.
-The Pfizer (which is in PHIL) and Moderna vaccines, both 2 doses and both 90%+ effective even against some variants. These are the preferred.
This is a broad brush statement, so don't bust me on trivia with these. This is my area of expertise so I'm offering up the advice (maybe not worth 2 cents hahaha?
Good luck.
GG.
Just to take issue with one aspect of your post, the Chinese never "gave" any Vax to Phils. They sold it.
Surprise! Surprise! The PI gov are refusing to discuss how much they paid invoking commercial confidence. I think that's Tagalog for. "We don't want you to know how much we skimmed for ourselves".
However, My main point in writing is that I read this a few weeks ago: https://thediplomat.com/2021/03/from-dengvaxia-to-sinovac-vaccine-hesitancy-in-the-philippines/ . It tells about the last time that Phils bought a vax from the Chinese that was meant to protect children from Dengue.
