Speaking of that, just heard from Robert, of the Mansion (Medellin Bob) , that his girlfriend is having his baby (DNA verified).
He's happy excited!
Yikes!
Watch yourselves guys! LOL
How can it be DNA verified if the baby hasn't been born yet? Or did you mean HAD instead of HAVING?
-
So are you going on Facebook, Craigslist or what for your selections?
I use Facebook. Haven't tried Craigslist in Colombia. May venture into prepago websites next trip.
People tend to forget the ultimate value of facebook: keeping in contact with your favs. It's the best way to stay in the loop with them because shit changes often with these chicas (pregnancy, marriage, turning full-blown lesbian, gaining weight, etc.). Intel you would normally not be privy to by only Skype calling and email.
I've had some favs I've witnessed recently go through such "life changes", which has caused me to re-shuffle my stack for next trip.
How can it be DNA verified if the baby hasn't been born yet? Or did you mean HAD instead of HAVING?
Hmmm, he said the baby was due in July, a girl.
Said he was verified to be the daddy by DNA.
I know nothing about how or when these tests are valid or administered.

The process is state-of-the-art, combining the latest technology and proprietary methods of preserving and analyzing the baby's DNA found naturally in the mother's bloodstream. This test requires only a simple blood collection from the mother and alleged father and can be performed any time after the 8th week of pregnancy. The test is 99. 8% accurate. Thanks amigo!

I am not interested in an apartment. I am looking for an upscale hotel in Poblado that does not have a chica fee. From my experiences in Bogota, the fanciest hotels allow guests for free as long as they have an ID. Does anyone know of similar places in Medellin / Poblado area.

About 5 years ago I lost my DR phone and along with it all my DR contacts, years of work down the drain.

It be like me asking you how do I hire your competition.
I'll be honest not much of a religious person besides knowing the usual solid dates to certain obvious holidays I really don't pay attention. I had booked it a couple of months back and I just realized today the mistake I made. I get there Friday afternoon so I'm hoping shouldn't be too bad. I'm open for any ideas or suggestions from anyone that lives there or has been there during that time. I'm down for anything even if it's a watering hole and just people watch. Don't want to go to sit in a room and stare at wall or sit in watching TV. If nobody has ideas I'll figure it out, I always do!
Thanks in advance!
I'll be there when you are there. Like you, I did not look at the calendar before I made reservations. I have many Facebook friends, so I don't think it will be a problem having companionship. I usually go to Hooter's for 2 or 3 beers early in the evening. I hope they will be open all the days of Semana Santa. I'm an old fart, balding with reddish-gray hair, and I will be sitting at the bar. Stop by and say hello if you are in the area.

Be careful out there.

Especially for the guys who wander off the beaten path. Medellin cops don't seem to be doing a sensational job at keeping people alive. Don't forget it was only about a year ago the armed robbery at a hostel in poblado where a gringo was shot and killed.
Maybe I should've posted this in the security in Colombia section. Sorry about that.

Maybe I should've posted this in the security in Colombia section. Sorry about that.
I really don't like the spread of ignorance. Any due diligence shows quickly that the only real issue Colombia currently has are some rogue elements of FARQ- FARQ themselves, who are one of the major players historically have signed a treaty rejecting kidnapping, overall seem to be adhering to it. Medellin is a city of 2.5 million, and as such it is an inherently dangerous place. If you are to be abducted in Medellin or elsewhere in Colombia the overwhelming odds are that it would be if you were backpacking in the woods, especially in the largely uninhabited area of the NW, where FARQ is strong. If they get you in Medellin, they're probably just going to slit your throat and pick your pockets like any other major city and dump your stupid ass in an alley somewhere convenient, if that. That being said, yes, Medellin is dangerous and even Colombians recognize this. They have an addage,"dar papaya" which essentially refers to "don't be the only papaya within reach". If you're low hanging fruit, you'll get picked. Here's a list of the 50 most dangerous cities in the world, based on murder per capita, including America cities. http://www.businessinsider.com/the-most-violent-cities-in-the-world-2013-11?op=1
Stop perpetuating this perception that Medellin is somehow still as dangerous as it was twenty years ago. It's made progress we could only hope Detroit, St. Louis or Baltimore might emulate, not to mention Mexico. You're in a big city in a foreign land that is not protected by the US Constitution. Act like it and you'll be fine. Show some respect. Don't get shitfaced. Don't be stupid. Have a good time.

Murder rate, US cities
http://colombiareports.co/forced-disappearances-20-2012-medellin-ombudsman/
"In 2013 654 people were reported disappeared in Medellin, compared with 521 in 2012. * The bodies of 32 of the disappeared found in 2013 able the 17 bodies found in 2012."
To put things in perspective, here are the cities with the highest murder rates in the US. (2012 stats)
Number of murders per 100,000 population:
Flint, MI 64. 9.
Detroit 54. 6.
New Orleans 52. 5.
St. Louis, MO 35. 5.
Baltimore 35.
Newark, NJ 33. 1.
Oakland, CA 33. 1.
Baton Rouge 28. 9.
Cleveland 24. 6.
Memphis 24. 1.
The population of the city of Medellin, not including surrounding cities, in 2013 was 2.4 million. If we say that all 654 people who disappeared were murdered, that is 27.25 murders per 100,000 population. Eight large cities in the US have a higher murder rate than Medellin, some much higher.
