When I was in Kiev last in October 2014, the supermarket that was downstairs under the mall in Arena building was closed. I used to like that supermarket very much, as there was an entrance to it from the parking garage in the same building in which you could get picked up by taxi, making it easier to get your shopping bundles home, which was important especially if you had bought a lot of containers and bottles of liquor, juices, bottled water, milk or carbonated beverages, which are heavy. So I shopped in the Billa supermarket and the fancy Rynok at Bessarabska Square when my apartment was located in the area of Arena.
To make things easier, I had my apartment rental company do a pre-arrival grocery shopping for the standard items, including the heavier bottles and containers of drinks I knew I would need, and have it waiting for me in my rented apartment when I arrived. They did this for a small and reasonable fee. So when I arrived I only shopped for the supplemental items I didn't want to leave to them to select, such as the selection of more expensive liquor, etc. One of the important questions I always ask my apartment rental company is the proximity of any suggested apartment to a nearby grocery store or supermarket. I definitely want to avoid coming out of a supermarket laden with heavier shopping bags, and not being able to get a taxi, and then having to walk back to my apartment a distance or uphill, with the bag handles cutting into my hands. Much better to have the apartment rental company stock my apartment in advance. My standard list for the pre-shopping included what I estimated was sufficient bottled still water, carbonated water, Coca Cola light, milk, various juices for drinking or mixing with liquor, and such other standard items I felt I could rely on them to select properly.
I was not at all impressed with the produce selection at Billa supermarket. There must be a higher quality selection of vegetables and fruits somewhere. The Rynok at Bessarabska Square has nice stuff, but very high prices. Does anyone have a recommendation for a supermarket or Rynok (marketplace) that has high quality produce with reasonable prices?
When in last October were you there in Kiev? I don't remember reading your report.
When I was there from last October 15 to 20, the supermarket in the basement of Arena City was bustling, as if it was just re-opened. It looked certainly different from November 2013 when I went there before last October.
I have been to one huge supermarket in Kiev, something akin to Walmart in the US. I believe it was on Vasylkivska Street within the walking distance from the center, but I'm not 100 % sure.
Which apartment rental company do you use? I use www.kievapts.com
Asking them to stock grocery for me when I arrive is something I would never consider. I guess I'm more on budget. But my apartments are always close to the one under the Arena, so I don't think I need to ask for it.
BTW, just ignore your critics.

I double checked my records about flight dates, and have a correction to make. It turns out I was in Kiev twice in the latter part of 2014. I had a weekend in Kiev from August 28 to September 1. And I was also there on a stopover October 19 to 21. It is probable that the day I went shopping and found the supermarket downstairs from the Mall in the Arena building closed, was on Friday August 29, as that was for a weekend of a few days for which I needed to do some shopping. The latter stopover in October was too short to require shopping, as I arrived late in my apartment (about 11:30 pm) on Sunday October 19, went to Rio that Sunday night but didn't take anyone out, spent the whole day Monday October 20 and the morning of Tuesday October 21 fucking five mamba girls in my apartment that I knew from prior trips, until I had to leave for the airport to catch my 2 pm flight to Frankfurt. So as I recall now, I didn't see the light of day outside my apartment during that October 19-21 stopover, and did not go shopping during that stopover. So if you saw the supermarket under Arena shopping mall open again, then it is good news. My recollection of that supermarket being closed must be from When I went there on Friday August 29, and ended up shopping at Billa at Bessarabska Square, which is nearby.
I don't always post a trip report, since the information is repetitive, and the newbies don't bother to read the prior posts on the thread anyways. But if some new aspect of mongering comes to light, I would post.
I have used kievapts.com for years. They are great. And Alex would be happy to pre-stock your apartment with some groceries for a small fee, if you don't want to lug the heavy bottles / containers yourself back to your apartment.
I can't wait to get back to Kiev. I hope this current cease fire stabilizes. Maybe I can get there in March. Meanwhile I have been freezing my ass off in NY, and hopping down to Fort Lauderdale for some sun and mongering fun on weekends when I get the chance. As I will be doing this weekend. I got airfare of $86 each way. And there is some very fine Latina pussy available there, about which I've written previously.

Did you try the supermarket in the Gulliver Center?
It's located in the basement and open all night.

Hyatt Regency, Kiev
I will be staying in the Hyatt Regency, Kiev next month.
Does anyone know if the hotel has working girls in the lobby / bars, and what is the quality and prices?
I have read that after 23.00 it is difficult to get a girl into your hotel. Is that true?
Any help and advice would be appreciated.

A quite large one easy to reach from the center is a 8-23 h Novus next to Livobereshna station (red line 3 stations from Arsenalna). Just pass to the other side of the highway, about 300 m. They got a huge selection of local and international products. Also easy to reach by car / taxi.

Not true.
Why? There are no regulations in place, so no incentive for a 'black market'.
Beside, it'll be hard to extort more when a currency is already free falling?
I was in Kyiv in January. The rate at the airport was around 16, in line I was offered more and the taxi guy on the way into center was offering even more.
Pretty black to me!

That was my last day in Kiev in my October trip, and I was going to Rio, but I got stuck with my girlfriend and we ended up staying in my apt., ordering a Domino's pizza at 2 in the morning. LOL.

Especially what the rate in city exchange bothers where? Airport exchange isn't exactly known as being good.

H
Going to Kiev in 2 weeks. I expect that the rate at the booths will differ about 8% from the ATM. At least such was the case when I was last in Kiev in October. It may be more now. Plus you don't pay transaction fee. Creditcard rates are also bad.
I have been in St. Pete and Kiev. No idea about Vladivostok.
I mean you can find cheaper options in St. Pete maybe half price and the girls in St. Pete less familiar with sex tourists. Less sharky.
Better for non mongering activities.
More english speakers.
100% Correct. As I lived several years in SPb.
Weather in Kiev is much better, though.

I had a very full day lined up the next day, with the first mamba girl due to arrive at my apartment at 7:00 am, and the second one at 12:00 noon. So I couldn't bring myself to just go to sleep, as I was excited to be in Kiev. So off to Rio I went, just to have a drink and enjoy looking at some hotties, and have some dances, like I do from time to time back in NYC too.

Dear fellow mongers,
How do you research trusty prostitutes in Ukrainian sites such as www.top-modals.com? And what about prices? Could somebody provide some recommended prostitutes from those sites?
It seems there are fewer girls for meeting with foreigners both serious or P4P in mamba site. I remember I easily got dozens of contacts in 2007. Now it seems they are just sharks. How do you behave with them?
I avoid disco clubs for prostitutes.
I say, I am more interested in young girls for travelling. But I am doubting Kiev is not the right town anymore.
4000 grivnas are about 150 dollars for an overnight, therefore the deal should be good. But I am reading in this forum too many people talking about 150 dollars for one hour in some pseudo P4P clubs. I never paid more than 300 dollars for an overnight years ago and I never pay more in next future. So, grivnas prices are just a fraud such as prostitutes in Moscow, or men became more silly than in the past?
As to mamba, I've been recently thinking the same thing, too. I'm having more difficulty trying to find girls to meet with in Kiev for freebies than before.
I'd think it should be the total opposite in this political and economic climates in Ukraine today.
Are they now even more determined not to give in to foreigners? What's going on???
I would even personally think that it's "better for Ukrainian hotties to hook up with foreigners" and get out of the country!

The find a foreigner thing is long gone. Tons of young EE dudes in Western cities with good jobs. If you manage to bring a dev home, she will be plotting her escape from you day one.
