Difficult issue.
There is a "training" session for the election the week before. No joke. Most likely the week before the election alcohol sales stop at 6 pm on Saturday until midnight on Sunday. (Background: Regulations about early voting, if for some reasons people are not in Thailand on the 3rd of July).
On the 2nd for sure no alcohol after 6 pm. Sunday no alcohol until midnight.
Democracy is a serious issue here in Thailand. It is that serious that the police considers it to be the big pay-day. Especially non-voters (foreigners) drinking or selling alcohol that day (s) are highly appreciated income sources to finance the new car for the [new] mia-nois.
Most of the bars will be open. Many of them will sell alcohol in cups and bowls. A bit hidden. Watch for snipers on the roof, you never know, how seriously democracy is taken in just that moment of opening the beer bottle. Always remember that we are farang, and important people here in Thailand "don't respect farang" (deputy prime minister Suthep). Even worse, some of those farang are "farang bastards" (Suthep about Robert Amsterdam).
Check out who is around you in the bar[s]. If you see Mr. Prayuth - leave. If you wear flip-flops with the face of the PM printed on them - You should leave very very fast! Mr. Prayuth ordered that nobody is allowed to sell and wear those flip-flops. Now, there is [of course] no law in Thailand that forbids this kind of shoes. But Mr. Prayuth ordered that. And that is somehow something similar to a law. So. FOLLOW THE LAWS. Thai's take democracy very seriously!

But - we should take it easy. After the election we are back in 2005. Everything is fine.

Chuwit used to own most parlors? Slight exaggeration he he! How many Soapy Parlours exist in Bangkok and surrounds, probably hundreds. Chuwit did have a few though in the old days. Good honest living. ;) Actually Victoria's Secret is probably the most obscure of what was the Davis Group parlours, due to its strange location and even marked on Maps incorrectly by Thai experts who probably never went there. Most of the other Soapies in the group are more well known although now sold to other groups. Copacabana, Emmanuelle, Honolulu (now Long Beach) , Hi Class, Victoria's Secret, and Julianna (La Defense). BTW, most of these are on the superior Soapies list (worth a try).

Abhisit has been trying to woo over the poorer people by having free electricity and water (for the very low frugal users) and subsidised education expenses like free travel on public transport for students, however the poor people are not satisifed with some help they never before got. Give them a little and they want to take a mile. They want all eduction costs to be paid for. They want everything to be free. Its too tiresome to work for money. They want the most talented corruption experts like Thaksin back. In the end it doesn't matter how corrupt he is and how much he lines his own pockets as long as Thai enconomy is going better. Don't for a minute think I would vote for Abhisit (if I were a Thai). Who can be happy with all the killings, specially the innocent bypassers by snipers, even though some of the red-shirts did dreadful things? The Thaksin group seems to have better control of the media and suppressing news not in their favour. Maybe Mr. Chuwit is the one to support, supposedly to help keep the others honest.
Meanwhile the economy suffers from inept politicians, corruption, global warming, China dams, Natural disasters, Floods, Issan many year doughts, reduced tourism due to Yellows blocking the airport, Red blockades, Snipers, Reds burning down the shopping complexes, SARS, Bird Flue, Tsunamis, etc. It makes the regular Coups of the past seem very insignificant. Thailand has really gone to shit for the poor, except for isolated provinces like Satun, where everything goes on just fine. Meanwhile Thailand is still just fine for us mongers, due to mongering places for Farangs being much less busy. All the so called reasons for not travelling to Thailand hold very little practical sense at all. Its a very safe country unless you stupidly go near or get involved where the shit is happening and where you are told very clearly not to go. Hard to say if Thailand will become less safe in the future, but not a worry just yet.
