And you're really assuming a lot in this comment in the favor of the WG! The opposite can easily be true, that the man is the frivolous one, and she is savvy and she has enough extra to buy the new BMW to show off how well she really is doing, and maybe she could even buy something much nicer but she doesn't want to be too ostentatious.
