I'll be visiting Dubai on the 23rd to the 29th - right in the middle of Ramadan. What's the situation going to be like over there? Any advice or help would be really appreciated.
Anybody who has read the forum knows that EVERYTHING stops for Ramadan.

Actually, there's a pre-ramadan roundup, currently going on, to cull out the easy catches.
ALL girls head home for a month's vacation.

Aeroflot leases an Antonov An-225 to get their girls out - worth going out to the airport to see the plane itself.
Chinese just lay on extra flights.
Africans send ships.

Any player that can also leaves.
Once ramadan starts, Saudi Arabia contributes by sending 2 divisions of Mutawa as street cleaners; 1/2 division goes to Abu Dhabi, the majority to Dubai (have heard their saying for this year is "There's a reason why our citizens go to London on holiday").
Although clubs/bars may seem to be open, if you enter, there will be a contingent of Mutawa to question you as to why you are such an infidel dog. Anyone enquiring as to "opening hours" is taken away for re-education enlightenment. And be especially cautious about Cyclone; it's set up as a honey trap: they actually use cardboard cutouts of women inside the patio to lure passing drivers to stop and take a look. If you try and use the excuse of "going to American hospital emergency ward", you had better have a bleeding passenger (common knowledge if a backseat passenger smashes himself in the mouth to cause said bleeding, EVERYONE in the car owes him a beer post-ramadan for his self-sacrifice. If the rear seat passenger is punched by another, then only the "puncher" has to buy).
The ruling family likes it because it adds perspective, as in "this is how it could be, so shut-up".
Well, that's what I've heard. What I've EXPERIENCED, as reported here, every year, life goes on, just a bit more subdued.
My advice would be to search the reports of distinction for "ramadan".
