You mean they could for example kick in your in-room safe and leave with your money and credit cards? I'm very safety conscious in Brazil. Safety is the limiting factor in a country like Brazil.

P.S. I Read that in-room safe open themselves if hit hard. It is a well-know fact in Thailand (although in Thailand the risk is minimal due to the prevailing anti-crime culture). I'll be in SP between mid May and end of June. Let's meet at Scandallo again one afternoon.

My go to spot is in the shopping mall across the street from the ibirapeura bourbon hotel in Moema. There is a money changer on the third or fourth floor that offers decent exchange rates. Changing money in Sao Paulo is not difficult but finding a fair exchange rate is a total hassle. Ymmv.

The Ren lobby girls are in the same range as Scandello for pernoite. IME, the hotel tries to be strict about registering them. While it's possible to quickly blow by the desk on the way to the elevator, I've had clerks chase me down and ask to register the girl. I'm generally in favor of going with the flow and registering the girl. As far as safety goes, they're as safe as any other GDP you would bring to the room, if not safer because they probably want to continue working the bar.
