That's a lot of good tips for Shibuya from Traveler X for authentic local experiences. It's very helpful as I cannot read any Japanese. This list of food and entertainment is enough to fill a couple days of visit. No pet or cart driving for me, primarily interested in engaging in lifestyles of average locals.

So long as you are in a major city like Tokyo, there will be "English subtitles" in many places. As you note, you can use your phone to "live translate" signs and menus.

Some ideas for you that you may already know:

Idea 1: Go to Shibuya Hub and other "pickup bars" and just chat with people you meet for "normal" wholesome fun. Maybe you meet a nice girl or just friends both guys and girls. Girls who want to meet foreigners cluster at places like that. I used to do this at Roppongi bars and it was like I became ten times as attractive compared to the USA. But I always heard Shibuya has better options just never had enough time to explore them.

Idea 2: Girls bars - If out of 100s girls' bar pub girls you pass by, maybe 5-10 are your type. 2 or 3 of those really will be in personality too. Identifying them is an art, but you can usually tell in 20-40 seconds if a girl is even an option. You'll want a girl who can speak some English (ex: girl who did a homestay in US), vibes well with you, and has no GPS. If you don't find such a girl, I would pass. I know it's hard but it goes the other way too - if you find two girls you really like, try both. The point is to have strict standards and patience.

Girls' bars are legit establishments and some exist in Shibuya and Kabukicho. The one I went in Kabukicho was Inoka and is obviously legit because it's full of locals and the prices are clearly posted and consistent. I paid exactly what was agreed. The girls are just ordinary sweet people you can pick off the street. If you don't vibe, you can just dip after paying 1000-3000 yen minimum. I would even leave early with a polite excuse since there are other girls out there if you don't vibe. Whereas if you really like a girl, buy her a drink. Do not buy her a house!

Yes, girls' bars suit exactly what you are asking for. It should be immediately obvious the establishment is legit, at least it was to me. The bars were always clearly marked and in my case the staff were 100% women. Here is a youtube video showing three examples. Every girls bar is vastly different from the next.

Hooters is the inspiration for girls' bars. Hooters is an "American-themed" girls' bar, the OG girls' bar. The only requirements to be a girls' bar is the alcohol and it is staffed by women. Without alcohol, it is most often a maid cafe. Girls' bars normally have an actual bar separating you and the girl. Even though I never touch the girls, they're allowed to touch you. In special cases, you can take the girl out - I was actually asked out and her bar allows it (scroll way down).

The Shibuya girls' bar girls stand out on the street after dinner time, and not all will take English-only customers. If they say no they are doing you a favor. Many jgirls in Kannai of Yokohama stand outside too, some in Sakuragicho of Yokohama. It's all over Japan of course. I will emphasize this has no appeal to tourists, only "true jgirl lovers". Even though you met sharks with streetwalkers, don't worry. Sharks don't work girls' bar jobs because it's just not how hardcore scammers think - this is too much work for too little pay. A girls' bar = Hooters with options, it is tame. Streetwalkers in Japan are just like streetwalkers in the US, they're illegal, desperate, and a much higher risk of rip off or GPS. Girls at girls' bars are going to be normal girls, it's the appeal (the job is not worth it for pros and sharks). Whereas the girls' bar system is not too hard to navigate if you can communicate, and I will explain it later.

I also suggest two things that are not your main goal:

Idea 1: See Shibuya Galaxy 1 time even though it's "not your thing" to satisfy curiosity, since it is unique and maybe you find your girl.

Idea 2: Consider DH again if you have an ideal cndidate, even though yes other countries have it cheaper. Maybe book a girl you liked last time (if you really want) or try a JAV girl you actually recognize. Don't bother if you don't see a good candidate. But if you really connect with a girl, you can UTR her or with TAE even book her 2 hour.

Since you did not like Luxe for key reasons (ex. cost/value), even a better oppai pub might not be worth the trouble. But if you know a Japanese-speaking friend (2-4 years Japanese is enough), go with him to Manzoku and get into Hosekinobako (open 5pm) or Leicester (7pm). Hosekinobako if possible. 5pm through Manzoku is 6000 yen which is a bargain, then dip when your 40 minutes are up.

Like you, much of my fun is just talking with the girls. Hear me out, even if you just want to talk with a girl in the case of an S-Tier girl it can help boost your confidence if her beautiful boobs are out for you. Japan and to some degree South Korea has no good jobs for young girls. Lower pay and few good career prospects. They are supposed to marry, but even that doesn't work in this economy. Young men have it hard too because life-time employment is becoming rare except for the true elite. For these reasons, Japan has an over-supply of cute girls and exports them. Some girls are good decent people from poor backgrounds, while a few are sharks. Be careful, you never really know.

The funny thing is Japan has a short list of "don't do it" things for tourists, compared to other countries. Don't follow a black tout in Kabukicho, he is a scammer. There are many legit black staff in Roppongi and Shibuya so I can't say the same. Don't buy champagne for girls unless you are truly rich. For example, maybe you are emotionally compromised and hypnotized by a girl - if I was there I'd slap you so "don't do it". Don't pick up jgirl streetwalkers. Ironically, Thai streetwalkers might be legit for example. Lastly, don't fall in love with a sex worker or buy them a house or loan or anything.

Will plan a visit during the cherry blooming season next year to experience the beauty, love and care in the life of Japanese.

To add to this, you can broadly divide fs shops in Japan into "tourist friendly" and "not tourist friendly". The tourist friendly ones will let you book in English, Chinese, Korean using LINE, Wechat, KKT and so on. You don't need a Japanese phone number. The main drawback is tourist friendly shops charge more than what locals pay. However, some of the better tourist friendly shops offer a good value still. TAE is really cheap for what it offers imo. For example, by being located in a cheaper location (Kira Kira in Yokohama) or catering to extremely specific perversions (ex. breastfeeding shop).

The "light services" shops like oppai pubs charge everyone the same, they simply tend to reject people who don't speak enough Japanese (but you can go with a Japanese speaking friend). With girls' bars, the girls themselves make the call on the spot who they will take.

Anything below the fs level, it's a lot easier to get in. Normal maid cafes are not gonna care if you are English only. Since TAE is in Shibuya (basically next to Shibuya Galaxy and Tora no Ana), sometimes when I suddenly wanted a girl I could text them and she would show up on short notice. This helped when I didn't know when I'd be back to my hotel until the last minute. I'd step out of Shibuya station and message them. Then I can plan whether to go straight to my hotel or meander the streets a bit first. Note that things get crazy busy Friday and Saturday nights due to clubbing.

I don't know your preference, but Gingira has some good talent and the girls match their ads more. Some girls have full on photo galleries. One girl had A-Tier ads and was S-Tier in person.
