as a very morally conservative country the united states is fertile ground for playing to the moral dimensions of sex for pay, and hence the impetus for much of the anti-trafficking work comes from the united states. besides, this crusade and its presumed underlying morality is one of the few things liberals and conservatives can agree on. knee-jerk liberals see it as social exploitation of marginalized victims, while conservatives are just concerned about any sex that doesn't happen in the dark, in a parental bedroom, in a submissive missionary position.

a recent study by the urban institute has opened some questions that may be hard to get back in the genie's jar. they paint a picture of prostitution in a handful of american cities, and the picture is much more complex than the "trafficked victim" image that is being "trafficked" by the zealots. they paint pimping in dark terms, and perhaps that is appropriate, but the study also shows that, especially with the extensive use of online solicitation, many prostitutes arrived in the profession and remain there more or less voluntarily. admittedly, the study really only opens the door to that interpretation. but it's a start, and i actually saw where the study triggered some serious debate on the topic on one of the prime time msnbc evening shows a couple months ago.

the exposure in newsweek of the somali mam fraud may also chip away some of the chinks in the armor. she has been pedaling a story about her own victimization and apparently helped other young cambodian women concoct similarly fraudulent stories--obviously using the "identifiable victim" approach to massive fund raising and reinforcing the image of trafficking. but now she is exposed, and some well-known personalities look very gullible as a result: nicholas kristof, hilary clinton, tyra banks, oprah, dylan mcdermott, susan sarandon, queen sofia, and sheryl sandberg. unfortunately, it is still easier to sell simple images that hinge on moral indignation than to get people to actually reflect on a reality that is much more complicated.

First off, this is my unofficial report as I am in the midst of AC trip. I didn't want to believe all the posts about AC has gone to shit and it seems to be true. Every bar I went to most of the girls pretty average or below. I don't know if it was bad night, but most of the girls were either cherrys, unavailable for whatever reason, or reserved. I must've gone to over 6 bars and stroke out at every single one. I would see some other dudes try to take out girl and the girl would just walk away. If the girls were available its only one boom for the whole night. From some of the stories I've heard is that a lot of the girls make their money off the ladies drink and go out with John's. For me, it was drink after another with girls saying their not available after the fact I bought them a drink. I am incredibly frustrated with Angeles and it letting me down.

Please anyone that deeply loves AC give me at least one recommendation for a bar or place that exemplifies what first time AC adventurers are hoping to experience and more.

P.S. I didn't want to mention this until my actual official report, but avoid the Gecko's bar. Supposedly there was a raid a few weeks back and apparently the place no longer lives up to previous positive reports. YMMV, but it seems the girls and mamasans were just pushing drinks and no take outs. I can't tell you how many pesos I wasted trying to find a bar with "available" girls.

I know I'm a fat and ugly dude. But, could this be a reason why girls are saying they're not available, giving me inflated prices, or stating only one boom boom for all night. I know its up to the ladies who they go with and what to quote, but aren't a lot of the Johns unattractive. Present company excluded of course. [/QUOTE]The Tier 2 designation has been true here for a number of years. The US government (especially when Hillary was in her position) is tasking many governments around the world to "upgrade" their status or the US will not provide the same level of Foreign Aid to those governments.

just wondering what you guys think.[/quote]take a trip to dubai and hit the discos. i think the majority of the chicks there fall under what you are saying. they are not ****d though. they aren't kidnapped from home, but are usually tricked to go there. once they arrive the sponsor collects their passport and they go work the discos every night and must bring the money back to the sponsor. there are a bunch of chinese, uzbek, and ethiopian chicks that i met who fell under that umbrella. same situation with the foreigners you will see working in pattaya and bangkok.
