Regarding Ciudad Perdida, I've read everything that I could find about it. You're right, it’s dangerous. The AUC, ELN, and FARC are all contesting this prime coca-growing real estate. But, the local narco-baron has a great little side business running the only tour company that goes there, and since I'll be on the tour, I feel fairly safe. Eight foreigners were kidnapped by the ELN in 2003 in what was apparently a failed negotiating ploy with the government. They were released unharmed three months later. The trail has been heavily guarded since then, not by the nicest people I admit. I haven't found any other instance of aggression along the trail against foreigners in my research, but I have found plenty of bloggers who loved the whole experience.

Please don’t take my failure to heed your warning as a lack of respect (for you or Peter). I’ve been dying to do this trek for several years, have done my homework, and the risk/reward calculation works for me.

My only anxiety now is transportation from the airport. Any tips? Hotel recommendation?

Last weekend I hit Pereira with the legendary Antifreeze.
Atica is still a great discotheque, playing reggeaton, techno, trance and an amazing amount of babes.
They have a TV with the Playboy channel on playing hardcore porn (yes, they show penetration) in the mens bathroom. Why? I have no idea because girls don't seem that easy.

1) go party with David33 and LimaBusy and
2) Go to Machhu Picchu. While I have not been to Ciudad Perdida, and if I went I would take the helicopter route rather than the trail, I have never heard ANYBODY who has been to both compare it favorably to Machu Pichu. Consider bringing a chica from Lima as Cuzco action is NOT on the same level as Lima.

Went there this weekend ok place quite a few ***** houses went on a boat ride to some island called want chew ra pronounced in English. Very bad boat ride about 45 mins. The island is filthy but lots of people go there. Restaurants serve good food but the quality of the restaurants is like being in Sudan,Africa.These guys have no clue how to make money and treat customers in a tourist area. In Buenaventura only 2 casinos very small. I found a good ***** house with excellent digs and nice sexy woman between 18 to 28. A little pricy for Colombia but you pay for what you get. The finca is cool, I like it.

I was actually too tired to try the third hole. It's summer here and after 2 months in Lima's winter I need to adapt to the temperatures a bit.

She'd never been to a casino in her life and I'd never been to one in Colombia. In Lima I go every now and then. So I suggested we'd check out the casino on the fourth floor. Stayed there for a while lost maybe 10,000. The minimum blackjack bet is less than a dollar, 2000 COP!
However I don't recommend it, the service is sloooooooow as fuck. I mean like half an hour before they brought me a vodka on the rocks.
Anyway, she had to get up at 7AM in the morning, so I suggested she might wanted to go home. She said no problem, she liked being with me. She'd also told me quite a few times on messenger and that night too that I was so cute. So I try to kiss her, right? Nope. "Things aren't like that around here." Another Colombiana that wants to play a good girl. If this was Lima I would be banging right there.
My head told me if we would go to a bar and start drinking, it would be no problem afterwards. But I just wasn't feeling it anymore and told her to go home. She lend 5,000 COP for her cab as it was about 1.30 AM and no more buses. She would give it back next time we met. I'm sure she's legit, but so far I don't feel like meeting her again anyway.
Checked out Heaven which now wasn't charging cover anymore. Not many people inside, but the music was good. Drank some and started talking to this chick, her busty friend interested me more but she was fighting with her boyfriend. Took too long and I decided to check out Mango Biche and La Cantera around la zona rosa, La Popa.
Both clubs had dancers. Mango biche had a couple of midgets hopping around between the dancers. Freaky.
La Cantera was better.
Both closed down around 3.30AM. Boringgggggggg!
Next day the Heaven's chick called me, but I think she was just hinting to get me to invite her to the concert.

So there was a reggeaton concert in town past Saturday with Don Omar, Trebol Clan, Cheka, Aventura and Colombian group 3 Pesos. Platino was 75,000. Balcon price was 3,000,000 COP (yes, 3 million) for 12 persons, 1 bottle of whiskey and 10 drinks.
Anyway, I went by myself although some girls I talked to told me they loved the perfoming groups but didn't have tickets, hinting for me to invite them. Well, why would I bring meat to a restaurant?
So I went by myself around 7PM and sure enough tons of hot girls everywhere. I mean everywhere. People were having fun, the atmosphere was great. Way better than any disco I had been to so far.
I got quite drunk on a bottle of aguardiente 20,000 COP + 5,000 for a juice to mix it with. After a while I was talking some, but dancing more with an 18yo who was there with her 30something mother. Before I knew it she was holding her hand behind her back, jerking me off right there, with her mother not having a clue... Awesome girl. I figured she was all set, so I got her number. I decided to get some other girls numbers and went to the food stand eat some hotdogs and bought another bottle first. From here things get into a blur and I wake up at 6AM in a police cell. My foot was a little fucked up and my body showed signs off fighting. But my face was not hurt and my knuckles showed signs of some good ass whooping. For those looking for some action in Santa Marta.

A lot of streetworkers on Carrera 1 downtown (just in front of the beach). Many ugly ones, but some seemed acceptable (but have not tried). However, be careful where you put your feet (and the rest): I've seen (or better: I've heard) a few tranvestites there. Also seen in the afternoon three "cantinas" with loud music and some chicas in Carrera 4, east of the cathedral plaza. But I've not been there at night (be cautious: the area does not seem quite friendly).

All this is fairly downmarket. In case you have more costly tastes, you should probably try the beaches area (El Rodadero).

I think Santa Marta is also a good place for non-pros. I'm not especially attractive, but I had some difficulties to get rid of my hotel's receptionist, who did not look bad at all (unfortunately, I had another date). Won't tell the name of the hotel, of course!!! (I plan to come back for business in a few weeks).

Anyway, enjoy your stay there.
