I took the bus from Bucaramanga to Santa Marta and would not do it again. Never mind the danger it was the most uncomfortable trip i have ever taken. I also once took the bus from Bogota to Bucaramanga and would not advise taking the bus.

I don’t think none of us here are as high profile as Uribe or has Po’d as many Colombianos as he has… lol. But I guess it’s always wise to err on the side of caution in Colombia although I hear it’s quite a scenic trip by bus.

The Bucaramanga/Cucuta road is from what I heard one of the most scenic drives in Colombia ... its like driving at the top of the world ; I'll check how safe it is when in Bucaramanga.

Pro, if you have a special lady in Bucaramanga you might want to try the El Portal for a night. The cabana i stayed in was very nice and had a hot tub that was large enough for 6 people.they have a very nice resturasant on site. It is a nature park. i would advise taking some food and beverages with you.

Manizales is a university town, and by reputation is a little more polite and noble than some other parts of Colombia.

But fear not, there is still sleaze to be found. In fact there are quite a lot of bad neighbourhoods, it's still Colombia after all. I have not found it to be too different to other cities.

Manizales is not a top class mongering destination, since there are no very beautiful girls to be found in the establishments. That said, if you happen to be here anyway then you can have some fun.

Here goes with some venues:


[u]Cassa Show[/u] -- This place is the first one the taxi drivers will suggest. Strip club, although the shows are nothing compared to what you'll find in other cities.
- Half bottle of rum 30k, beer 5k
- Price for half-hour with girl can be negotiated. 30k or 40k is what they ask, room costs 10k.
- You can take a girl off-site, bar fine is 30k and price to be negotiated with girl (she will probably ask 100k for all night).

I would not recommend this place as the half-hour in the room is done with a lot of clock watching. The girl has to tidy up the room and get back to the bar within 30 minutes otherwise she pays a fine. So once you subtract time for your shower, her shower etc, you have very little minutes for pleasure.

A good time to arrive is around 9pm.


[u]Manhattan[/u] -- Next door to Cassa Show in barrio Centenario near the Plaza de Toros. Next door to Cassa Show but with less people, less space and almost no lighting.


[u]La Japonesita[/u], cll 25 no 15-25 -- Daytime option, closes at 8pm. This is a bad neighbourhood, you should not walk alone on these streets. Bar setting where you can go just to drink, or meet the girls and negotiate a session in the rooms upstairs. There is probably a take out option, but I did not investigate.
- Beer 2k,
- Room 6k without a set time limit
- Price, time limit and service to be negotiated with girl. I got 1 hour for 30k but she indicated that this was a very cheap price.

This place is one of the few daytime options. The girls are rated 5 and 6 mostly, you will have to be lucky to find a nice one who gives enthusiastic service. My experience was pretty lacklustre but you never know when you'll find that diamond in the rough.


[u]Taberna Sammy, cll 27 no 21-34[/u] -- This is also a bad neighbourhood at night, do not walk alone in the streets. Girls arrive from 7pm, goes until 1:30am

- Beer 2k, half bottle of rum 22k.
- If you buy a half bottle of something you can get a private show from one of the girls for 5k.
- If you buy a girl a drink, she will probably ask for a dose of pina colada which only costs you 2k!
- Room onsite 5k per half-hour, fee to negotiate with girl perhaps 30k.
- Take out option, 20k bar fine, price to negotiate with the girl. Will ask 100k all night, but I was offered 50k to leave early in the night for 3 hours or so at a motel. I had her back at the bar by midnight. For me that was excellent value.

I like this place. Girls are nice without being super-hot, there were a few that would rate a 7 or so and were very doable. Only about 8 girls at any one time.


[u]Oasis, cll 27 no 22-40ish[/u] -- On the left hand side of the street as you go uphill (one block uphill from Taberna Sammy).

Plenty of girls in this place, about 25 available at 8:30pm. Nothing better than a 7, though. This looks like a regular bar with cabins (not quite rooms)onsite. Prices are similar to Taberna Sammy.

I found that in these places there is no problem for the girl to give her phone number. A good option is to cruise the places on this street in the evening, collect some phone numbers and then set up afternoon meetings 3 hours for 50k or so. Get several phone numbers as the girls are not reliable.

There is also a third joint on this street called Secretos Discoteca, 20 metres downhill from Oasis. At first glance this place is not a puteria, but I did not look too closely.


[u]Joy Nightclub[/u] -- the small doorway between Son Caribeno and Pueblito Paisa bars, near the Plaza de Toros. There is no sign but there will be a guy standing out the front and the doorway is open. Upstairs is a big club. From about 1.30am until 7am.

- Bar fine to go out with a girl 40k, girl will ask about 70k for a couple of hours. A couple of girls started by asking 250k (ha ha!).
- Rooms onsite about 70k for half hour.

This place is OK I guess, though you could find better value elsewhere if you look earlier in the night. This was the one place where I saw a super hottie 18yo from Pereira who rated about an 8.5. Unfortunately she was asking way too much and did not care to negotiate.


[u]Tamales (also known as Coldeportes)[/u] cra 23 con cll 48 -- Taxi drivers should know this place. It should be open from 2pm and during the nighttime. So far it has been closed every time I passed. I am told it's a more upscale option.
