I bought Catuaba from Mountain Rose Herbs, nice web page, nice on the phone, good price and amazing delivery. Even though the shipping cost more than the product, the price wasn't bad. If you call the 800 # and ask for 4 oz., they will sell it to you without having to order a minimum of $10. Unfortunately, it just seems to be a nice tea. It smells like cedar bark, I put some honey in it, although it doesn't taste bad without any, but I have not noticed any aphrodesiac effect. I will continue its use until the 4 oz. is gone and then probably try Muira Puama, which they also sell. Today I put 1 tableson of bark (whole) in cold water for 10 minutes, brought it to a boil and then simmered it for 25 minutes, strained and drank.

Any opinions?

Catuaba is one of those rainforest gems. It has been used for hundreds of years as an aphrodisiac for men and women, and is frequently found in libido-enhancing formulas in the U.S.

Muira Puama is also called “potency wood” if that gives you an idea of how appreciated it is by both sexes, especially in Brazil. It works similarly to Huanarpo Macho, which is more or less the Peruvian equivalent. As well as increasing libido and potency it counteracts erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. Muira Puama is definitely one of the oldest and most revered, and well researched of the aphrodisiacs.

I am having difficulty identifying a quality supplier. There is considerable debate about which plant is the true catuaba. Apparently there are many being sold that have no effect.

Catuaba is working amazingly well for me. As for the libido improving effects, it seems to be working almost too well. Kind of feel like I'm going crazy at times. The mood elevating/anxiety killing/stimulant effects are pretty damn strong too.

A few pointers on how to best take this stuff...

#1 - If you can, buy catuaba in sliced form, and then powder it yourself in a grinder when you are ready to use it. The active ingridients in most herbs break down much more rapidly when they are in powdered form, so if you buy herbs that have been in powdered form for a year or two, they're probably near worthless.
#2 - When you're ready to make your catuaba tea, make sure it is POWDERED. If you are using the sliced bark, chips, or chunks, you're only going to get about 25% of the potency. Again, wait until you are ready to use your catuaba before you powder it. Maybe powder a week's worth at a time.
#3 - Brew the catuaba in HOT water, for 20-30 mins. At least 20 minutes, if you're brewing it for five minutes, you are wasting your time and money.
#4 - Drink it at least twice a day, preferably 3-4 times a day.
#5 - Use at least 2 teaspoons worth of powder for each cup of tea.
#6 - If the taste kind of makes you sick, try adding cinnamon or stevia, they both mix quite well with catuaba. You can also try holding the tea under your tongue for a second or two before you swallow, for some reason this makes it easier.

Wow. That's exactly the opposite of what I experienced from my trial of catuaba from MRH. But then, I was only eating the raw powder and not heating it into a tea. I wonder if the extracts they use have the same effect? Maybe I'll try this again in a few months.

If the actives were more bioavailable via standard oral ingestion, don't you think the indigenous peoples that used catuaba traditionally would have simply eaten it? The fact that they used a hot water infusion (tea) should not be ignored IMHO.

have been taking @1 gram of catuaba, shredded bark boiled as tea, for over a month. my own experiences mirror those of supreme dan's almost exactly-- this is a powerful substance with few side effects.
i've tried shredded catuaba bark from several sources, and the products are in my experience virtually all the same. they're all shipped from brazil. i'm assuming the species i'm drinking is Anemopaegma mirandum, since that's what mountainroseherb ships, and mrh's product looks, tastes, and smells identical to the other sources i've tried, which are simply labeled catuaba. i'm of a mind that Erythroxylum catuaba and Anemopaegma mirandum are the same thing.

This is NOT what is usually considered to be catuaba -- which different people say is either Trichilia catigua, an Anemopaegma, or Erythroxylum vacciniifolium/Erthroxylum catuaba. I dosed the BAC stuff for many weeks at ridiculous doses with no effect.
The powder I got from Raintree (a very professional company that goes for more expensive, high quality, sustainably harvested South American herbs) is said to be "Erthroxylum catuaba". This is another thing I dosed for a few days with no effect.

Some people say that Trichilia catigua is "big catuaba" and Erythroxylum vacciniifolium is "small catuaba". In Brazil it is just sold as catuaba and apparently is a redish colored powder or bark. I am considering trying this extract:

catuaba: the draw back is that it makes you last less...i could easily last 30-40 minutes, and with this 15 minutes is the most i can last. the good thing is that my refractory period decreased drastically from about 20 minutes to less then 5 minutes!!! ..the thing is really potent...peeing is starting get be a hassle cause just by touching the penis it is getting hard....the effects were building up so dont expect the libido effect to take less then 3 weeks to kick in...

Not sure if anyone posted this before but I have tried Santi (the beige bottle ones) capsules before and worked great!

Though it recommends a dosage of 3 capsules. I find that 2 works best on the first day and then to maintain effectiveness, 1 every 2 days after

You can do a search on yahoo for Santi website that sells these. Have tried and ordering was a cinch.

Did a search on this thread and had no results.
