I have a trip coming up myself. I'll split equal time between San Jose and Jaco. In San Jose, I chose the Taormina Hotel and found the best deal by booking directly through their site. In Jaco, I will be at the Cocal. For the Cocal, I recall that I had to use their site and follow their process since they typically weren't listed on third party hotel booking sites. Now, if you plan to stay at either of these "ground zero" hotels then you need to act fast since both can get booked up quickly with horny travelers leaving no availability for the dates you want. I booked months in advance to make sure I got what I wanted. Got to have rooms at ground zero! I've included links to both hotels below. They'll have most of the basic info you need. Hope it helps!

    Costa Rica and Hotel Cocal!

I have been mongering since 2007 but never knew of Costa Rica before as a good destination for it. I've only mongered in Germany, FKKs, Globe, Aphrodisia, Vienna and North Africa. As well as Seeking in California and London and Peru. Usually I go to ISR and click on Globe or FKKs straight away. Today saw the list of main destinations and decided to click on Costa Rica. The recent reporter's article on.

Mongering in Jaco Beach at Hotel Cocal got me *very* interested. I know its across the pond in the wrong direction and the ticket will be 1200 Sterling (compared to 200 for a quick hop to Zurich) but it could be a nice beach holiday combined with our hobby.

Hotel Cocal reminds me of a cross between Aphrodisia and an FKK except its set in a hotel (at least as described by the reporter in his report here (https://news.co.cr/sexual-tourism-th...ta-rica/24123/). He said 150 chicas!! That's crazy.

I am tentatively planning a trip at the end of this month and tried to find it on Booking.com but its not listed. I checked the actual website but couldn't get direct prices. Can anyone who has stayed at the Cocal tell me how much it is per night for a room (not a suite)? Preferably facing the ocean. I'm thinking 5 nights in Cocal with 2 nights in San Jose.

If you get a room at the Cocal can you take the girl back to your room? Do they have a cigar lounge or better still shisha pipes at the Hotel Cocal too?

At The Cane. Good to see you on ISR again my friend!

So that all you have left is the local Ticas and some Hondurans or Over Priced Colombian Gorditas. Please check the weather forcast before you book. Nothing worse than sitting in the Cocal for a 5 hour rainstorm.
I've been there many times in past few years, in all seasons, and don't find it any big deal. Sure it will rain, but remember its on the coast so you have the pacific ocean airmasses coming through, which push the storms out. That is, weather tends to move out fast, it doesn't get locked in like a mountain valley. Typically its an hour or two, leaving everything refreshed.

I didn't get to check out Ohm Lounge, which promises a higher class crowd (stupid of me, it slipped my mind) but its right on the main drag at the street where you go to the cocal. Anyone go there? ID love a report, but Ill definitely go next time. But I did go to Republik, which is almost diagnolly across from cocal. That street will be chica ground zero. Republik had such a nice welcoming attitude. It was early, so I got a drink. They have a dance club that opens at 10 , I was going to check it out.

Then the little head started, I saw a gal, absolute perfect 10 to me, maybe 5-5, but thin perfect body (to me, be cups), dressed in a black leather cocktail thing, just stunning. Hairs went up. Couldn't take my eyes off her. Couple gringos start talking to her and friend. And I am. Jealous? Kick myself for not jumping on it. Nurse the drink, keep an eye on her. Then the gringos leave.

Ok, might as well jump, like van halen said, and I did. "Lets go to my airbnb. " and she hesitates, apparently the guys were coming back. But then agrees. Yes, and we are off.

Amazing smart girl, a night Ill remember when I'm wearing the baseball cap in the wheelchair. But never got back to Republik.

So long story short, any reports on Republik or Ohm please post!

Republik Lounge. Another reason to go to Jaco. And Ohm Lounge??

"The crime rate in Jaco Beach is relatively low, making it a safe city to live in and visit. According to rankings, the overall crime rate per 100,000 residents is around 59.67, which is lower than averages for similar sized cities globally. Violent crimes like homicide and assault are rare, with rates of 5 per 100,000 residents. Petty crimes like theft and pickpocketing can occur but are not very prevalent. Standard safety precautions can further minimize any risk. The reputation for community trust in law enforcement contributes to an overall climate of safety. Both residents and tourists can feel at ease thanks to the low crime rate and high safety standards in Jaco Beach".

So at the very worst you can get pickpocketed, which happened to me only once in my many travels: Paris. Go figure.
My only pickpocket experience was a mile from my house, on Christmas eve (Brooklyn NY). Never had any issues anywhere else.

You lost me at Jaco being crowded like midtown Manhattan though.

Can walk from there to the walking street to go eat at area restaurants. There is nothing near Taormina. There is a restaurant sign in front on one of the building but was not open. Maybe closed. Most people eat and drink at in house restaurant. Expensive but tasty food. Room comes with free set breakfast. I have seen some mongers bring girls for breakfast although you need to pay for her. Obviously they kep the girl overnight. They all were ugly IMHO. Prettier girls do not agree for toda la noche unless offered exorbitant sum.
Why are you and others talking about San Jose in the Jaco thread?

Del Ray is closed now so the circuit in San Jose is between the SL, Castillo, and the Taormina, but the walk between Castillo and Taormina can get pretty sketchy later at night. I've walked the main drag in Jaco at midnight often. I'd never walk between the Castillo and the Taormina that late at night.

To add to the conversation string:

I don't think that either San Jose or Jaco are particularly dangerous. I have been to both several times and walked around solo in the middle of the night. Never even felt threatened.

Safety shouldn't be a concern there. What SHOULD be a concern is the poor punting. In that sense, CR has gone down the tubes -- a shadow of its former self. Even Jaco.

I do know one guy that has been mugged, but by his own admission it happened when he was stumbling drunk. Not good but also not unexpected.

For types of crimes directed against people like us, male tourists I'll say, I think Jaco is significantly more dangerous at night. Reason is that those that want to take a chance and take on gringo tourists are going to focus on somewhere there are gringos with money walking around at night. That is not San Jose in general, although in the day the Del Rey attracted that sort of criminal and perhaps there may be some that hang around Taormina these days. I don't have the article any more, but I also did read that the crime stats for Jaco were high for that sort of crime.

Late at night all bets are off in either place. After about 11 in the evening there are a lot fewer people around, including police, so best to take cabs or Ubers.

    For what its worth.

List of safest / most dangerous countries. Costa Rica among the very safest.

Its common sense, you take precautions. Remember your gross overall chance anywhere is very low. FYI I live outside NYC, go into the city occasionally, and there are more homeless, panhandlers, and drugs than ever. No tent cities yet, but Ill keep you posted.
