I am back in Vientiane again for a working visit after having had many visits pre-COVID during the previous decade.

There are quite a few new, chic restaurants and hotels, but there are also a depressing number of derelict buildings, and many places are now closed.

The plane to Vientiane was full, and there are lots of grey nomad tourists and the inevitable backpackers around, but the monger scene has clearly suffered from some unknown (to me anyway) effects. The trawling girls on motorbikes have disappeared in the evening. Even WeChat seems to have few potential meet-ups.

I haven't gone searching for a massage yet, but I am here for an extended stay, so time will tell.

I will be heading to Vientiane and giving my shot at Laos in a few days, wish me luck LOL. My old stomping grounds were Angeles City about 15 years ago, I just came from western China where the mongering scene is nearly none existent. The govt really cleaned everything up.

Popped across the border to give Vientiane a look see. 400,000 kip (20 US) does seem to be the going tip rate for a handy / blowie in the massage shops. Good enough to get a "come back tomorrow and I make baby for you," or maybe I'm just that much of a prize (LOL no). Available all around town and good for what it is, but if you're on a monger mission type vacation I'd skip Laos altogether and just go to Bangkok.

Returned yesterday, after a short visit to Vientiane.

Vientiane Massage Lao is still in operation, open from 12 pm to 12 am. Paid 2400 Baht (72.00 USD) for a 60 minute massage with extras at the office counter (last time paid around 15.00 USD at counter for the sauna / massage, then paid the lady 50.00 USD in the room for extras. Last visit over 4 months ago, there was nothing worth spending my baht on. Even the motortaxi (tuk tuk) guys sucked, hotel brothels (aka nightclubs) were lacking in talent.
