Introduction

Well here I am! Back to where it all started for me as a monger. Oh sure, I had messed with tutes here and there before. But never like this! Not on this scale my friends. Not even close! Instead, the truth is that I got hit dead square in the face with Costa Rica's present, and how the scene has greatly transformed itself. Back to the future! The King (Hotel del Rey) is dead. Long live the Kings (Taormina Hotel & Casino in San Jose and Cocal Hotel & Casino in in Jaco)!

Getting There and Getting Around

I flew Economy Class on United Airlines from New York to San Jose. I had enough miles in my balance to fly First Class and / or I could have paid for a more comfortable seat, but I decided to save that money and those miles for a much bigger, longer trip at another time (it was like 5 hours from New York to San Jose). That said, the cost of my ticket was in the $800 to $900 range, which is freaking expensive for a roundtrip flight to Costa Rica if you think about it. I could have found an even cheaper Economy ticket, but I'm pretty loyal to just a few airline partnerships. That's how I've built up all those miles. Once down there, I took a taxi from the airport to the Taormina Hotel ($30), then used Uber the rest of the time in San Jose (works great in Costa Rica).

There was no need to be concerned about ground transportation in Jaco since every place I wanted to get to was within easy walking distance of my hotel the Cocal. But how did I get to Jaco from San Jose? I took a private van that offered door-to-door service from San Jose to Jaco for just under $48 one way. I was interested in doing the same thing when it was time to return to San Jose to catch my flight back to the States, but nobody was offering a trip at an acceptable time to ensure I would make my flight. So, for just under $7, I took the bus back to San Jose, which got me back in plenty of time to catch my flight. I'm glad I had both experiences just to compare. Each has its pros and cons. The van offers more personalized service, but it's also more expensive, and with stops it took 3 hours to get to Jaco! The bus is much cheaper and took only 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to the airport, but the service is not door-to-door, and I had to haul my luggage uphill to the terminal! I prefer the more comfortable and private door-to-door accommodation offered by a van service, but if you want to save some money, the bus is fine too.

Lodging

For me, this was a really an easy choice. No place was going to do but the two current "ground zeroes" for hooring and wenching in Costa Rica. That would be the Taormina in San Jose and the Cocal in Jaco. The Taormina was $105 a night while how much I paid at the Cocal depended on which type of room and on what days. It costs more on Fridays and Saturdays at the Cocal, and of course for a room with a view. I balked at paying more for a view (hey, in the room I'm either fucking or sleeping not looking out the window). I'm glad I skipped the view for a more relatively quiet room on the parking lot side. For my Cocal room, I paid $140 a night except for Friday and Saturday that were billed at $160 a night. I find the rates at the Cocal to be kind of high, but you have to do what you have to do if you want to be who you want to be! As a consolation, there are no chica fees at the Cocal for taking a girl up to your room. At the Taormina, you'll pay $15 to take a chica to your room for two hours or less. Anything longer than that and it's a $30 chica fee. No exceptions. My room at the Taormina was clean but dated and worn. If it weren't for the chicas, I would never bunk there. Food and drink prices were on the high side (in fairness large portion sizes though), but breakfast was included, and there are plenty of screens around showing sports from the States if you're into that. There's the casino. And of course the girls! Now, after two nights at the Cocal, I was ready to give it high marks, but then at 2 am In the morning, I saw a big ass cockroach on the bathroom wall! As bad as the Taormina is (and the Del Rey was), I never ever saw any creepy crawlies in my room ever. So, my overall view of the Cocal as a place to headquarter really kind of tanked right then and there. Also, there were several power outages at the Cocal. None of them lasted long, but very annoying! And their Wi-Fi sucks!

Communication

Speaking of wi-fi, I have the T-Mobile International Plan, which works great overseas for me. In Costa Rica, I just flipped the switch over to roaming, and in short order I had internet connectivity through Claro. My plan gives me unlimited data and texting while calls are. 25 cents a minute. I love the T-Mobile International Plan because it just works without a bunch of hassles. You land overseas in a foreign country, and it just works no problems! You turn on roaming and it works! I know some claim to have had problems using T-Mobile abroad, but I never have.

Money Matters

I used ATMs to pull some colones for things like food and drink, incidentals, and miscellaneous. You can use a credit card at most places catering to tourists too, but I always like to have some local currency just in case. That was actually unnecessary at the Cocal where all prices are quoted in dollars, and sometimes they would have to stand there and calculate how much that was in colones! I always travel with my valued Schwab debit card, which refunds any and all ATM fees, both foreign and domestic, so any fees I incur from using the ATMs will be reimbursed at the end of the month. As for paying the girls, dollars are readily accepted, and I had plenty of greenbacks on hand to close the deals and do the deeds. For relatively short trips like this one, I'm not too interested in converting a whole lot of my money into the local currency, just a little bit, especially when dollars are so readily accepted. All you need to do is know the conversion rate and bargain accordingly. In San Jose, the girls typically would quote $100 per hour but would often accept a little less than that, especially in the daytime. In Jaco, the starting asking was $200, and it could be hard to get a girl to budge off of that.

Too Good to be True

Would I Return?

And as far as Jaco goes, the Cocal has a ton of girls, but few of them appealed to me physically. To the point where I got kind of bored being there! If you're in a place like Brazil or Germany and a place isn't working for you, then you have a ton of other venues you can check out. Not so true in Costa Rica. Again, I guess San Jose has the pensiones and the massage parlors, but a guy living down there told me that most of the best ones have closed. I know that in Jaco there are some spas, but I didn't go to any of those since the Cocal, and then the late night clubs, are where the major action is. But remember, this is just me and my opinion. I talked to some guys at the Taormina and the Cocal who were like in 7th Heaven (mostly newbies or guys without a lot of experience). A lot of the guys who have retired down there don't even frequent the clubs that much. But hey look, Costa Rica is easy. It's not hard to get to relative to other places, you don't need a visa, it's tourist / foreigner friendly, and for Americans the dollar is widely accepted (but prices for food, drink, and transportation are no longer cheap). And if you like the look of the girls, it will be like spearing fish in a barrel. So, if you're thinking about going, I say by all means do so! It just might be the place for you. Costa Rica will always hold a very special place in my heart, because it's where I got started. But things have changed. Things have changed a lot! And in a way I don't particularly like, like no more hot Colombianas on the scene. I'm glad I went back one more time to see and experience Costa Rica today. But, I shan't return. You can't go back "home" again. At least I can't. This is my story. And I'm sticking to it.

And second, you are right to be sympathetic toward the girls. Many, if not most, are doing this out of necessity. They may not start out that way, but it becomes a lifestyle that traps them. If they want to be public about what they do they have that option with online websites, etc. But I wouldn't want to inadvertently put them in that position and potentially cause harm.

OK, so first I'm going to answer my own question. Yes, Costa Rica continues to have a strong picture culture. Most of the girls have been willing to let me take pics, and don't even attempt to hide their faces when I tell them I don't need the face! But I have a dilemma. You see, I'm going to do a report. And there will be pics of naked girls. But, should I show their faces or blur them? This is my dilemma. In the past, I didn't care. If I got a face shot, then it was game! But, in my older age, I feel differently now, and I'm more sympathetic towards the girls. I mean a real cutie I was just with told me she is a flight attendant with a major airline (which I won't name). I feel like I ought to blur her face, and also the faces of anybody else. What do you guys think? I'm looking for guidance on the issue, so please chime in if you have an opinion about what I should do.

I am in lovely San Jose, and have found that it is surprisingly downscale, especially in comparison with Medellíand, where I just came from.

I went shopping downtown, and ran into a neighborhood with some pretty ratty bars. There was a short time hotel with older ladies standing by out front.

Not a good place to walk around at night.

Asking rates in San Jose in the hotel bars are often 150 but 100 is the normal going rate. Jaco more like 250 but many will go for less especially late. ATMs are all similar, the exchange rate is based on your bank back home. Some, most, have ATM fees and the withdrawal limits can change without notice. Paydays they drop the withdrawal limits so they don't run out of money as quickly. BCR or Banco Nacional and one other, I forget which one, are government owned. Recently BN has had higher withdrawal limits, but your mileage may vary. But generally pulling $200 US in colones should be within their limits.

Thanks for the info. And $250 for an hour in Jaco is way too much. Not going there! I think I will negotiate for $100 max per hour in San Jose and $150 max in Jaco.

3. And finally, what currently is the best bank ATM to pull some local currency from? I probably will want to pull about $200 at the time..

Hi All,

Currently planning a trip to either Colombia or Costa Rica this coming January. I'll be traveling with friends and family and wanted to partake in some extra curricular activities. I've mongered in Mexico, Portugal / Spain, Thailand and the Caribbean. One thing I liked about all of these places is that they have short time rooms / casas and or actual brothels with rooms. Since I will be on time constraints with friends, unfortunately I won't be able to rizz up some chicas and take them back to my room for some tln fun. Because I will be sharing my airbnb with others.

Can anyone share any recent short time experiences in San Jose and Jaco areas? Basically, I'm looking for a casa type line up setup or something similar. Where I can either reserve something from a site / whatsapp or in person.

Are there any brothels in Jaco / San Jose that someone can share with me? I've searched endlessly on this thread and only seen older experiences from few years ago.
