I'm currently in Monterrey. Just flew in last evening. Here is the day 1 report of my trip. Hope this early intel proves useful.

Airport / Taxi:

Monterrey is a nice and modern airport. I arrived last night around 7 pm and it was fairly busy. I used QuackUp's post about the taxi kiosks since I didn't want to deal with the hassle of getting an Uber at the airport. One option if you do intend on using Uber is heading to the gas station near the airport for an Uber pickup since technically you aren't allowed to get picked up at the airport. It's about a 5-7 minute walk, but be mindful of your belongings and if it is worth the trek. Like QuackUp said there is a group of automated kiosks for taxis that are easy to use in the airport. With the touchscreen you select your ride size ("sedan" or "camioneta") then you select which zone your destination is in. Mine was Zone 3 for the Fiesta Americana Pabellon M hotel. Then you select which taxi company you want. It lists several and I just used Golden. It was 700 pesos, up significantly from the 450 when Quackup did his initial report in 2023. Another company I saw was a bit cheaper, 600 pesos, but I decided to stick with Golden since QuackUp said he had a fine experience with them. So it might vary in price slightly between companies. You can pay with cash or debit / credit card at the automated kiosk. I paid with a debit card and then I took the printed receipt verifying payment to the taxi stand. This is better paying upfront than dealing with potential gringo pricing. The receipt has three stubs. I believe one you keep, one goes to the taxi driver, and the third goes to the taxi stand monitor guy. Keep them all together. It gets torn when you actually manage to get a taxi and seems to be divided between the three parties. At the taxi stand there will be an official airport guy with an electric tablet / machine guiding people to the lines and asking you which company you chose. Unfortunately for me there was a huge delay to get a taxi. I stood in the Golden company line for about 30 minutes! When a Golden company taxi finally came up the taxi monitor tore the stub and handed it out to each party. Aside from the delay, my ride ended up being tricky as well. During my ride the driver kept saying "caseta caseta" and my Spanish is little to non-existent so I couldn't make out what words he was trying to tell me along with that. Lo and behold I did finally put it all together, but only when it was too late and after the fact. He was telling me "caseta peaje", "toll booth", there were highway toll booth fees! I could't believe it. We were suddenly on the highway heading to Fiesta Americana Pabellon M when toll booths appeared. The driver kept asking for money. He mentioned I think seventy or sixty. I thought he couldn't be serious? Surely that is included in the prepay kiosk fees for zone 3? I thought he might be pulling a fast one on me and was in on it with the toll booth operator so I acted dumb and tried to tell both of them I have no pesos, only "dolares" so then he was asking me for a debit / credit card. QuackUp's report for the same taxi trip made no mention of the toll booth. I thought maybe my driver took me on a longer less direct route. Why would you take me through a highway with tolls? There aren't any other routes? I didn't want to cause a scene so I just forked over the 60 peso toll fee. I'm not a miser or anything, I just found it odd and was thinking maybe they were trying to make some money on the side from some gringo. I did ask the hotel staff at Fiesta American if it is customary for them to not include the toll booth fee in the taxi charge if you prepay and they said yea it is normal. So I don't know. Anyway ye be warned! I thought I was back in Pennsylvania or some other East Coast American state with all of their highway toll fees.

Hotel.

As mentioned earlier I decided to stay at the Fiesta American Pabellon M hotel. It is a nice four star hotel located in a shopping mall that has fashion stores, multiple banks (BBVA, Citibanamex), food court, and even a movie theater. My reasons for staying here are due to Elvis 2008 and QuackUp's previous reports on how girl friendly the hotel is and its proximity to multiple banks. You can meet your girl on one of the levels in the mall and supposedly easily bypass the lobby. I'm unsure how that works exactly as to reach the elevator to access the hotel rooms you still have to circle around the lobby. So maybe they're just really lax? I did see a security guard at night.
