i visited santiago from august 14 until august 23, and although i was working a pretty heavy schedule, sought a little outside entertainment. because i was fitting my entertainment into the relatively small blocks of time i had available, i did not go the club route or other late-night, time consuming approaches. instead, i chose to use the escort services in the news review, a weekly, english language newspaper. i'm relatively fluent in spanish, and in the past, i've used the "sauna" listings in the classified section of the mercurio. while those services are definitely cheaper than the ones in the times, i've found the quality to be pretty mediocre and very inconsistent. in the times, there are about five or six services advertised, and i tried four of them.

"lili" is the only freelancer and charged $50usd per hour for a two hour appointment. she was petite (5'2"), pretty flat-chested, probably 32-34, and a hoot. her daytime job is with an erotic phone service, and most of her business is with people calling from england. she had some pretty funny stories about the brits, but saved most of her venom for the italians. i thoroughly enjoyed the 20 minutes we spent talking about her job, and the great sense of humor she had. (i normally like to spend some time getting to know the girls. while in the u.s., a lot of girls want to get the money, do the deed, and get on to the next john, in latin america, two hours means two hours. in general, the girls you'll meet are much better educated than their peers in the states, and a little conversation will lead to a much higher quality experience. treat them with respect and they will return the favor with interest!) when we got down to business, lili was all latex all the time, so that diminished the quality of the experience. i'd rate lili a 7 looks and a 6 on performance.

unfortunately, the news review website (www.chilean-news.com) is down at the moment, so i can't give you the exact numbers of the services. they change all of the time, so get a copy when in santiago.

when i called the second service, i told them i wanted a young woman, no older than 25 or 26. they asked, "how about 19." she looked about 15! i'm on the wrong side of 50 myself, so it seemed a little [CodeWord129]. she wasn't very talented, had more of a "let's get it over attitude," and was only ok to look at. she went for $150 for two hours. sorry, i don't have more details on the service.

one of the lessons i've learned is that many of the working girls are single mothers trying to make a buck. however, the downside of this is that many of them have post-baby drooping tits. i've learned to ask for "una chica sin tetas caído," without sagging tits.

the next service, which was answered by a woman, led to the find of the trip. daniela was about 5'9", i'd guess 36d-25-36, with a stunning face. she's in her final year of university training (probably 23), and does modeling for department store advertisements. daniela was an easy 9 on looks and pretty great in the sack, too. with latex-free bjs and energy to spare, i had found my dream. at $100 per hour she wasn't cheap, but i've never come (pun intended) close to her quality in the states (well, there was the little filly from indianapolis). i saw daniela twice, and will call her first on my next visit.

one last note: if you're into the bar scenes, daniela told me that a lot of the girls hang out at a bar called entre negros which is in the suezia nightclub section of providencia--a suburb of santiago. i didn't have the time to hit the bars, so i can't vouch for the place. however, if daniela hangs out there, that's enough for me.

The hooker scene in Santiago is discreet, but quite prevalent. Any of the main newspapers, such as La Tercera, or El Mercurio there are literally 100s of girls advertising their services under the category of "saunas". Most include a price and a cell phone number.

The street scene is concentrated mainly in an upscale entertainment district called "Providencia". Girls working independantly focus mainly on men in cars. They stand at normal bus stops and try to make eye contact with guys driving by. The Chileans understand how this system is, and it works pretty well. When you see a girl you like, you stop your your car, and roll down the window. The girl will approach, and speak to you through the window. All you need to say is "how much"? In Spanish "¿Cuanto me sale?" The going rate today (June 2002) is $10,000. Chilean pesos for oral, and $15,000. for intercourse. That's 15 and 20 USDs aprox. Here oral sex is called "la fracesa" and intercourse is called "contacto". They expect it to happen in the car. A standard place to park is the very large, and dark parking lot at the foot of San Cristobal Hill where the cable car station is. It's a 5 minute drive from Providencia's night club area. When you park, you'll notice at least 10 other cars doing the same thing you are. They drive in and drive out every few minutes. Cops will not hassle you at all. The free lance girls do not show up on the street untill after 11:00 PM. The later you go out, the more you'll see. They start standing at the bus stops at around the Manuel Montt subway station on 11 de septiembre street, and can be seen every few blocks all the way to los leones subway station. On Providencia Street they start at Suecia street and continue all the way to Manue Montt. Beware of the hookers in the Tobalaba area since most of them are transvestites. If you ever have a doubt, ask, are you a girl? Believe it or not, it's not always easy to tell at first glance. My experience is that they will readily identify themselves truthfully. Each group has their respective market which is accepted and understood. If you don't have a car, you can easily hire a taxi, take a few laps, and find a good girl. All that I have dealt with insist on condoms which for me inspires trust. Of course since you'll need to be alone with your date, there are oodles of hotels with cater to this type of clientel. In the same neighborhood, there is a "love hotel" on Huelen street just off Providencia street which charges $15,000. pesos for 4 hours. There are several. Most accept credit cards. A good taxi driver will know. The hotel will "card" both of you. Any picture ID with a number on it will do. It's a standard procedure to protect against child prostitution. They will turn away anyone under 18. The police will make routine checks at the desk, and ask the hotel to show them the guest list. If they see all the rooms have registered guests with names and ID card numbers they are content. They'll never go further that that. The police occasionally raid out and out burdels which never register anyone. I never go to those places. Santiago is actually quite a small city, and since I live and work here, if word ever got out that I was caught in such a raid, my name would be mud. I can't take that risk.

You can also find plenty of street hookers around Salvador metro along Providencia street on the south side of the street. The girls there seem to be a lower cut though. There are also girls on Vicuña MacKenna street on the West side of the street just a few blocks from Plaza Italia. The quality seems to sink though. Also girls can be found around 10 de Julio street and on Avenida Mata, but I personally consider these areas a little dangerous. It seems more like a "skid row" type crowd. Down right scary from my point of view.

Don't belive the report that the hooker scene here isn't good. It is. Really good. But it's discreet, just like everything in Chile.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the apartments are the best bet. Just wanted to get some follow up information:

1. Is the $60/hr all inclusive? Do I need to pay the girl anything extra afterwards? Do I pay the house any cut of that up front?

2. Are these apartments safe? That's probably my #1 concern.

3. What spanish term do i use to indicate to the cab driver my interest in one of these apartments. I speak some spanish so I should be OK, but is there a slang word for apartment that I should use so that he will know what i'm talking about?

4. Are there any scam things I should look out for? I don't do this often, much less outside of the US, so I'm trying to avoid being taken.

There are basically three options. The Bars are the most expensive and basically for Gringos. But you are looking at a Salida of $50 - $200 US, over priced drinks and about the same cost to the girl. There are several bars near Providencia the closest Chain hotel is a Radison in the World Trade center. I think they call this part Las Lomas. Unless you have money to burn, I forget about them.

Outside of the bars there are two options, escorts and apartments. The cost here is about the same. About $60 for an hour. This is normally measured by time not to completion (not up to an hour.) So you might get a couple of go rounds in the hour or you can spend the time relaxing, drinking, talking, showering, the time is yours.

Most cabbies have their favorite apartments and get a commission. The quality varies day to day, hour to hour, apartment to apartment. So, it's trial and error.

Some escorts on the web but they tend to be over priced for the market. You can find as many as you want in the Classifieds of El Mercurio under Saunas. Try La Segunda and La Tercera news papers as well but the number is smaller.

This is my first time in Santiago. I do speak some Spanish. What should I expect, in terms of service, price, and quality? Where should I go - I prefer to use an establishment rather than street girls because of safety.
