It's been a few years since I was in Batam, if Newton has not changed much since then then it is exactly like Milles was.

Dangdut, is the EDM of Indo. Milles was a crazy, late night extasy infested dance club in North Jakarta. I loved it.

And I only know Jakarta and Bandung, but want to change that with a trip to Batam, Bali, other places. Sadly, my next trip to Asia will be next Ramadan, so I will go elsewhere.

My last trip to Bali was at the very end of Ramadan 2016 and I got laid 3 out of 3 days. Admittedly I had connections with the girls via social media before hand but with saying that I met 3 out of 12 easy that was on my "roster" one was Muslim, one agnostic and the other Christian. In regards to Bali Ramadan is probably the best time to be there because no local tourist, no Islamic tourist but there are plenty of girls about. Might be back in April for some more fun.

Honestly, I recommend you to stay away from Newton UNLESS you have a considerable experience of Batam and Indonesia discos already. It's not for the newbie. Drug, scammers, thieves, are just waiting for an easy prey. Think about a small fish swimming with sharks. And the Indo techno music itself is alien to most Western people.

It's a dump, and finding the gem is matter of BOTH good luck AND experience.

FYI, the night after I went sleeping alone, as I did not find any suitable lady (I was there dancing 3 hours).

LOL. I definitely know what you are talking about. That super loud Indo Techno music. I visited Batam number of times. Yup!! Definitely have to be leary. There is always someone trying to reach into ones pocket.

I love the quality of service in Batam and how well trained is staff here.
I was sitting at Street Food Nagoya Hill for a while yesterday, in front of Coba In, waiting someone coming to take my order to eat.
Nobody cared about me, so puzzled enough after some time I started waving my hand to a waitress to call her attention.
Guess what? She replied waving hand too, smiling back, and saying "Hellooo..!!"

Google is your friend. It's called "Harmoni Wine Club" and as you can see from the street view and the Wine Glass logo it's opposite KFC.

I have been there on Saturday to have a look. One of the saddest places I have ever seen. Not surprised I did not even notice it before. Some distoned singer singing old songs, 5-6 white men sitting with old ladies at the bar and having drinks. I run away, back to No Name.

You are really right about wood and trees. I am now watching it on my monitor. I never noticed it, but, again, maybe because on some remote time back in years I went inside, I looked around, then I stepped out and I deleted it from my list of "places to remember".

BlackPage haven't you told your wife the Riau Archipelago is all about golf trips, wine tasting of New Zealand Sauvignons and cigars? I certainly would. I guess the place is more Somerset Maugham than Joseph Conrad. They don't serve Gin Pahits anymore mind.

My wife is more intelligent then you suspect. I told her I went to Batam 2 times, then I stopped, because it is frankly not plausible, for anyone who knows me, to claim that I go to Batam 25 times to taste wine (I am from Europe, and modestly about wine we have nothing to envy to what is offered in Batam).

I'm sailing into Singapore this weekend and I think for the first time in about 35 years with the option of an overnighter in Batam I'm going to give it a miss.

If I have the chance to pass the border, I cannot stay there for less than a whole week.
