A buddy of mine had me crying laughing the last week. He calls me and says,"guess who the F I ran into last night?" So, recently one of my "favs" from T65 called me up during the week. She said she was in Copa (it was lunchtime) and would I like to see her and go to the beach. After explaining that I actually work during the week, I told her Saturdays generally are better and I'd speak to her next week.

My apologies, and many thanks for correcting me, Poucolouco. Not used it for ages. Terrible tragedy that was and I didn't realise it had been suspended.

I guess the Arches are still as photogenic as ever. And hopefully the Metro bus (the one that trails from the bus station through Estacio before getting seemingly lost in St Teresa) is still running.

The arcos were repainted last year but they have rapidly become soiled from the dirty air and rain. However they are still a photogenic historical landmark. The Prefeitura is now operating mini yellow busses to replace the bondes. The bondes may never be restored due to the high cost of infrustructure for tracks, and rolling stock. The sidewalks of Lapa were widened and renovated last year with new paving stones. They are less hazardous to navigate now. Another Lapa attraction is the feira do Lavradio on the first Saturday of every month. There are great exhibits of antiques, and artisanal products, with good food from street vendors and local restaurants are all open along rua do Lavradio.

Christopherd, Good suggestion but the bonde has been suspended indefinitely since a tragic accident in August. The tram derailed and crashed, killing 5 and injuring more than 50 people. Numerous safety violations and failures must be corrected before the system is allowed to reopen.

From the bonde, you can get the Metro at nearby Carioca station or any number of regular buses. But that could work out a bit more complicated if you're in a hurry. Take the bonde one day, walk back to get a photo of the arches .

You seem an excellent person to ask this question, since you have a lot of experience with both. How would you compare Brazilian women to Russian women? This is not meant to bring up a point of discussion for another member here. I am specifically asking your opinion.

St Teresa covers quite a rambling area, but easiest might be to pick up the Metro Integracao bus. This is a (very tourist-friendly) bus run by the Metro subway company. Ask for a combined ticket. When the bus drops you at Cinelandia or any other Metro Station, pick up a north-west bound subway trains to Cristovao (for Mimosa, easiest) or Saens Pena (Tijuca). Memorise the notes from Sperto, Bubba Guide and others for more details.
