I've got to agree with renting a car unless all you want to do is sit on a beach all day. Parking is free everywhere except in the paid lot in downtown P-burg. Even then you can park in the free area by the salt pond 2 blocks away if you want to go downtown. SXM is a small island with a lot to see and a car is the best way to do it.

Don't assume you'll only want to go to the clubs just one time as they are more addictive than crack. You may find yourself wanting to go a couple times a day.

I know the concensus is rental car but I'm alright with my decision on the cab. Got a lot of great insight on the island, no worries about parking, drinking etc, right there, right back with no missed turns etc, and the cabbie was a nice guy who likely could use the cash more than I.

I went out around 9 and did a quick driving tour of all the clubs. It was a very slow evening at the clubs. There were only a couple of cars in the lots at all the clubs except Carolinas and Seamans. But even they were slower than normalI don't like it when there are only a few mongers at a club because the chicas really step up their aggressiveness when it is slow.

I decided to try Seamans as there were about a dozen cars in the lot so I thought it might not be a high-pressure night, but I was wrong. There were about 8-9 chicas hanging outside at the entrance to the bar. I felt like a bucket of chum surrounded by sharks. I've been going to SXM now for over 15 years (albeit during the "off" season" in late October) and never had a problem getting a car (a compact is fine for mongering transportation) for around $20 a day plus all the taxes. Renting your own would allow you to visit more than one club if necessary and would guarantee you had a ride to and from your hotel. Only minimal cost to park if only rented for one day. Who knows, you might be able to find a place on the street in the Maho area late at night for free.

I go with my SO and a group of friends we've met over the years, so it is difficult for me to get away at night; but, I've still managed to visit a couple of the clubs in the Philipsburg area during mid-day. So far, Carolina's is my favorite. We stay in the Maho area, and I used to fake going to the Casino after dinner (my SO does not like to gamble) and head over to the Platinum Room for some late night fun until I came across this board and learned about the Casas. Big difference in cost and service provided. You'll like Carolina's.

The moods at the clubs during the day vs during the night are like, well night and day. Both times are good. And you really should try at least a few of the clubs to find the one with the atmosphere and chicas that you prefer. Carolinas may sound like the favorite on this board but they are all good. I like Seamans for the big modern rooms and usually a nice selection of chicas. Even Defiance and Casablanca have their charm as well.

Follow the directions to the clubs that you'll find on the board and you'll do just fine. They are accurate and easy to follow. You might want to take your first try during the day as it is easier to find your way in the daylight.

Don't worry about sounding like a newb. We've all been there at least once and this is the friendliest board on the site. We all love this island and it's chicas and just want to see you have a great time.

I think I would like the Radisson better from a vacation standpoint. Is it simply insane to stay at the Radisson in Anse Marcel (the french side) and go to the brothels and clubs every day, or is the drive not that bad?

The drive from Anse Marcel to the clubs is easy. Leaving from the clubs and driving toward Casa Blanca and the French side, you come to the Westin first (about 10 minutes). If you are going to Orient Bay or Anse Marcel U-turn left about 5 minutes from the clubs. Anse Marcel is over a large hill and into a secluded valley and bay. Feels like you are on a different island, but you are close to Oriient Bay, the clubs, and very close to Grand Case where most of the great restaurants on the French side are located. I haven't stayed at either hotel, but have visited the Westin several times for lunch; it is big, nice, casino, etc.

I have been to the Westin and found it to be a nice hotel with a great beach. It is closer to the mongering.

I just wonder if both hotelds are chica friendly if you want a TNL.

I have a St. Maarten trip booked for December, which I know is a long ways off but I used airline miles and I wanted to get the lowest award bucket.

I have not yet booked the hotel. I have enough points for either the Radisson or the Westin. I realize that the Westin is a lot closer to the brothels but based on the reviews on travel sites, I think I would like the Radisson better from a vacation standpoint. I just got back from a wonderful trip in St Maarten. I especially liked Carolinas and the Seamans Club as they have girls that are more to my liking. Just to add to the previous comments, I felt very safe inside the clubs and there was nothing to worry about. Of course I played it safe and just took the money I was planning on spending that night, but I am sure if I had my passport and other money with me, nothing would have happened as these seem to be mostly regular girls trying to make money to bring home. Also, I hired a driver that toured me around all the clubs.

Does anyone here speak Spanish? I took a girl out of the club my last day and was using a translator on my phone to try to communicate a little better with her.
