My 20 days in Vientiane ends tomorrow.

Thanks to a mountain of work plus an appointment list of meetings from hell I had very little time to indulge in our favorite pastime.

I was also staying in a hotel which frowned upon guests in rooms and as my hotel had been booked and paid for by my local employer I was worried that any extracurricular activity would be relayed to them. Another expat staying in the hotel told me he had brought back a friend one night and they gave her the 3rd degree, insisted on registering her and charging him a joiner's fee as well as warning him next day about the perils of picking up Lao girls.

I managed to get to Bor Pen Yang on 3 nights, and it is still a popular haunt for guys with many Viet and local girls cruising in from time to time. No stunners though and a few fuglies. English is not widely spoken but if you have some Thai language you will get by very well.

I was chatted up by a very attractive woman one night in Kop Chai Deu restaurant when I was sitting at the bar waiting for my work colleagues so I had to turn her away before they arrived. She found another punter very quickly and away they went.

Vientiane Plaza Hotel has a great spa and massage annex and I visited one weekend. The girls are virtually all Vietnamese. Extra service was available as described in an earlier post here.

The disappointing thing for me from my last visit in May 2012 was the enormous spike in the number of cars on the roads. Something like 40, 000 new cars were registered in the first half of the year, and for a city with a population of just over 800, 000 there are way too many registered cars.

This indicates that the economy is rapidly expanding and people are ditching motor cycles for cars but the roads are not equipped for such an increase. There are no parking spaces either so cars park on the footpath along virtually every street in the city and so pedestrians have to walk on the roads and dodge the traffic too.

The restaurants are still wonderful and Beerlao still tastes very nice so all is not lost but Laos is not a venue for mongers.

Spent a few nights here before I make my adventure to the Lao-China border.

I checked all these hotel pick ups. I was quite disappointed that LOD 1, 2 and TiHow have turned into some massive commercial enterprises. There are tours buses of Chinese, Vietnamese, Thais guys that swarm these places all night. The ladies have become very very commercialized more than their Thai sisters.

I did try 3 the hotel pick ups, but all very cold and motionless. Don't even think of service here. The time has changed in Vientiane. The most joyful time in Vientiane in the 90's to early 2000's is now history and in memory only.

Also TiHow, LOD1, 2 now have become very mafia like establishments. I felt quite uneasy with all these gangster mean looking young thugs all over the place. It wasn't like that some years back. The quality also has gone way down.

I found some new shops when I was walking around. Near LOD2, I found 2 Vietnam shops. It is hard to describe the location because they are somewhat hidden inside an alleyway, but very close to LOD2. The shops were dark, I was waved in my an old mamasan. She told me all girls from Vietnam. About 6-8 girls in each shop, I did see some doable ones.

The mamasan successfully pushed a new comer for LT to me, quite pretty in my standard, ST she quote me 50 USD, but come down to 40 with little bargain, ST action only allowed in LOD2, LT quote was 80 USD, but gave me 70. The girl was Viet, and spoke zero English, only a few Lao-Thai words. They telephoned a samlor for me to go back my hotel.

I had a good bare BJ from her, first BJ in Laos this trip. Kept her until 2 am, and sent her back, she asked 20000 kip for samlor.

My final night, I kind of over spent in Mekong karaoke. I tipped the mamasan to intro me some girl with good service. She was not too sure about this but only heard from some of her customers. I picked 2 to go for a drinks. There were so many girls, lots of them marching around the hall way, some stay in their waiting room, it is hard to see all of them, then a huge Chinese business group came, and took 20 of them away.

I picked one out of the 2, went for LT, the LD was quite pricy now, about 40000 kip, beer 25000, LT quote 650000 kip, or can pay in USD 80. This is the only place I find that you can pay the body fee afterwards to lady. Other karaoke places here want fees in front.

The girl was from north Laos, still low mileage, some brief BBBJ, very nice body, the only one allowed me to eat her meat this trip. Wanted to send her back at 3 am, but she fell asleep, so had to bear up with some stranger in my bed till the morning. I took another 50 mg Viagra early morning, but she was in a hurry to go. Crap I wasted a good boner.

Okay, still some ladies to keep you company in Vientiane. But good old time is gone, and price steep due to the masses of guys from China, and Thailand, and local Laos are getting richer and richer, these business do not need to depend on us anymore like it once was.

Going to the China Lao border for some green fresh pastures now.

As is always the case, just when I go to BPY with 3 work colleagues there are lots of available girls alone and in groups smiling and winking at me and I have to ignore and act normally as my colleagues would not understand.

I will have to return solo tomorrow night and see what the scene is like.

Where exactly is "At Home" nightclub situated?

I thought I had found most of the "usual" haunts in Vientiane but this is a new one for me.

I regularly visit BPY and I know "The Drop Zone" but not "At Home".

Please give some reference points.

Ask a taxidriver, they know the club. The best way to write the name on a piece of paper. The club is located in the center, the name was about "ToatHome Club" or something like that.

There are many locals, the good women are not available. Also there are a lot of foreigners. A good place to drink, but a not so good place to take a 8-10 home with you.

The music is techno-like, extremely loud and it's very cold.

There is very little activity on the whole Laos board now.

Is it because few people are travelling in Vientiane?

Is there a dead nightlife scene? (I can't believe that)

How about Bor Pen Yang? Still a potential hang-out?

Other updates? I hope to be there late July to mid-August. It would be good to have some recent news on the scene.
