Posts: 345Ha, you run the risk of being cast out of the trailer park for not naming SL number one.
BTW, the Sleep Inn charges $35. It's a great hotel if you're not mongering. If you are, not so much.
The sand is really shifting on the ground under the gulch lately. With a few of these hotels closing, relocating, or about to close, there are deals to be had. Even the well run hotels like Amistad and SL are making deals and paying extra attention to customer service / retention. I took a TL member to the amistad tonight that had a reservation for a queen, and he got a penthouse at no extra charge. The recession has reached Costa Rica, and the smart hotel owners are adjusting, the others are buckling.
On a related note. The Rey is getting quite a bit of new higher end talent lately. Hot girls entering the biz because lack of other opportunities have lessened. Some of them are damn lovely.

Posts: 263Top 10 hotels in the Gringo Gulch
You are on your way to Costa Rica. You need a rooms. Now what to do? Where should you stay? Do I stay at a 4 star hotel with a high Tripadvisor rating or should I go out on my own and find a place in the Gringo Gulch. While you might get a room with a International chain by just walking up and checking in, you might want to do your due diligence and make sure you can bring your lady up to your room. You will notice that some hotels do not allow working girls at all, others set the chica fee so high, you will not dare to take a girl there.
Some of the monger and chica-friendly hotels in the San Jose Gringo Gulch include in alphabetical order.
1. Amistad http://www.hotelamistad.com Barrio Escalante a block from the Hospital Calderon. Sportsmens is a stones throw away. Best deal going if you like to eat, drink and at. Very nice hotel; rooms start at $79 (less for O. L. D. VIP discount) All inclusive, all you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, off of the menu. All you can drink beer, wine and well cocktails. No chicas working on-site; good wi-fi and free laundry service.
2. Hotel Castillo http://www.hotelcastillo.biz/ (budget hotel and old timer's hotel. Starts at $50 very basic and basic services. Wi-fi available and a free breakfast.
3. Del Rey Hotel and Casino http://www.hoteldelrey.com Probably the #1 tourist attraction in all of Costa Rica. A must see. Like Denny's it's always open. Key Largo across the street opens at 10 pm for dancing. More chicha's than you can shake a stick at. The rooms needs a little help and are not up to par. Most would not recommend staying there but is a most see for the beautiful women and over price drinks. $11 chica fee.
4. Hotel Dunn Inn Barrio Amon http://www.hoteldunninn.com. Close to my heart as this was the 1st place I stayed when I came to Costa Rica years ago. All room have been newly renovated and start at about $70; Rick's Sportsbar opened in 2011 and in my opinion a great waste of space because it is such a great bar and atmosphere. Good food, service and wi-fi.
5. The Freebird Hotel http://www.thefreebirdcr.com Nice renovated house turned into a hotel. Almost on Avenda Segundo. Close to attractions of downtown San Jose. Only downfall is that most rooms share bathrooms. They do have has 2 suites; rooms start at about $53 a night cash only. No credit cards accepted. Good wi-fi
6. Hotel Little Havana (HLH) , Bariio Amon. http://www.hotellittlehavana.com Lot of changes coming and is in transition. I really want to hold off commenting on this one until all the dust settles. I personally think good things are to come. (O. L. D. VIP discount providers)
7. Hemingway Inn http://www.hemingwayinn.com/ Nice place and rooms start at $35 cash but only has 2 of these rooms. Most basic start at $50 but be prepared to add 12% for credit cards, $3 for a safety deposit box and $25 chica fees.
8 Hotel Morazan http://www.hotelcostaricamorazan.com/ Another Hotel for the guy who is coming in on a very limited budget. A single room is $54 and a double is $60. Casino and Sportsbook on the premises. Even though Costa Rica passed a non smoking law, some of the rooms still smell like Lucky Strikes.
9. Mona Lisa, new kid on the block. Old Clarion. Recently renovated and opened in Jan of this year. Casino, bar, Chicas, restaurant, M. P. And Yorleny for the very best deep tissue real massage in town. Best Texas holdem poker game in town as well. Has a few growing pains. Wi-fi is spotty and not enough safety deposit boxes. Friendly staff and good service. A few of the old Sportsmen bartenders are working there as well. One big plus is underground parking if you happen to rent a car while here. Rooms start at $69 a night. O. L. D. VIP discount provider.
10. Sportsmen Lodge (SL) http://www.sportsmenscr.com My favorite to party and watch a good football game. Excellent Sports bar and bar food. Moderately price beverages and the staff is #1 in my opinion. Chica's on the premises and are not nearly as pushy as the Rey. Most will leave you alone while watching you favorite sporting event. Rooms start at $65. $275 for the awesome Penthouse. O. L. D. Discount provider. Good wi-fi and continental breakfast of fresh fruit, toast and coffee. Only downside is. It is just about always full and you have to book way in advance.
Guest / Chica fee hotels:
-Del Rey ($11)
-Hemingway $25.
-Sleep Inn (next to Del Rey) ($25)
-Holiday Inn (arm and a leg) they really don't want your type staying at their wonderful establishment
Hotels that really do not cater to mongerers are:
-Radison.
-Hotel Grand Costa Rica-Working girls not allowed in the hotel at all.
-Holiday Inn arm and a leg.
-Balmoral.
-Best Western.
-Hotel Presidente No chica's at all allowed. Too bad because it use to be one of my favorites.

Vesuvio is a bad deal at $51. It should be priced at about $15 considering the thickness of the walls and overall lack of furnishings. If you are really looking for cheap, then maybe the Inca Real. Otherwise the list from OLD is pretty much it.

Come on Jonesie, let it go. I did some research on this site with the pics you posted on your frequent visit to the P. C. Many, many pics. Most all said, fast becoming my favorite. Looks like your were having a good time. Remember, take the high road. My daddy always said,"if you can't say something good about someone, say nothing at all!" I will say something about good about you. You have gotten this Costa Rica section on this forum going again. Looks like it was pretty dead a few month ago.
There is not one business, hotel, Mp, brothel, strip club, private provider, mongering website or tour and transport service, that someone will not find fault with. This includes your site and my service.
I was looking at tripadvisor ratings on the Morada Haze nightclub in Jaco yesterday. 10 ratings. 9 excellent a 1 terrible. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...untarenas.html
9 out of 10 rated it excellent. I don't think this negative comment is going to keep guys away from this place. Follow me?
My advise to you and others, take it if you want, is to be nice. Always be nice. Your business will grow and grow. Plus people like to do business with good, nice people.

Posts: 102Help me pick hotel for weekdays + a Friday in mid-September
Greetings. Am looking forward to a 4-day award trip on Spirit Airlines (yeah, I know.) for 3 weeknights and a Friday night in mid-September. Will be my third-ever CR trip and first in four years.
With an Orbitz deal and rates as posted now for those dates, I can stay at the Morazan at $43. 38 / night all-in, Europa at $41. 69, Vesuvio at $51. 17 or Santo Tomas at $55. 04. Only the Santo Tomas has breakfast included.
Criteria is pretty standard: good location, chica friendly, not a total dump. Am leaning toward the Morazan on location but am a bit bothered by TA reviews mentioning noise or mold. Also not sure if Santo Tomas is chica-friendly.
Of those four, which one would you pick?
