Posts: 232You have some experience along these lines, Slip? Or you just blowing smoke?
I remember now, it's called a CENOMAR, "certificate of no marriage". You need it to get married. So yes, to the extent that marriage is a libido-killer.

There are no legal defenses to anything in this country for a foreigner unless very well connected. Next best thing is a briefcase full of cash.

Posts: 19If you're just visiting, what does it matter about the adultery stuff?
I mean you'd have to be unlucky to get caught doing "adultery" if you're there for a week.

Posts: 1856A valid concern. This place is hypocrisy central. Doing a little online detective work is prudent. I've found FB gives them away frequently. I agree with you on this. In any country I don't get involved in the open marriage thing. Its too creepy & insincere for me. Going to the NBS is a bit of a passion killer don't you think? LOL!

The below is a fair warning. If in doubt, you can ask the lady to supply a "certificate of no marriage", available from the National Bureau of Statistics. Never mind possible lawsuits, I don't want any married woman in any case, even if separated. I rely on Facebook. Anyone who denies having a page, especially a woman of means, is immediately rejected. And it should be a real Facebook page, with normal activity, friends lists, etc. --not a list of friends who are all foreign men! If her Facebook says she is single, then you have a valid defence to adultery--that you were unaware. If in doubt, download and save her page. Get her to say in writing that she is single.
I found one attractive girl's real Facebook when she carelessly gave a second YM address on her dateinasia profile, which lead to it. She was not a student, as she said, but was supporting her student husband.

Just a reminder to all here that the Philippines has a law regarding adultery.
There was a much publicized celebrity case here a couple of years ago.
There was an interesting article about this in the press recently.

Whilst I cannot imagine the poorer members of society trying to implement this law to chase after you, those who boast about only targeting the educated members of society might well be cautious that scammers occur within their ranks too. Be somewhat wary that a husband and wife are not conniving to relieve you of some cash by threatening to invoke this law. Be especially wary of the filipina who says her husband allows her to meet other men, or that they have an "open marriage".

Although a relative newbie here, I have RTFF (and I have lived in Manila on 2 occasions).
The senior posters here have done a remarkable job in self censorship on the PI threads. They have largely managed to constrain or remove the adolescent behaviour, foul language, serial antagonists, BS and hate campaigners over the years.
There are some classic posts. One in particular (by Red Kilt, I think), was quite recent, and a model in restrained politeness: "Experienced visitors and residents like me know that many of your comments are just plain silly".
Anyway, congratulations guys, and I hope your success continues.
Cheers.
