To relate to the post below, I'm Asian as well. I'll most likely travel alone but not completely sure yet cause one of my buddy said he will be interested in going as well; however it will be our first time.

Just to make sure, you don't need to apply for visa in advance to go into Mexico right?

How much Spanish do you need to know to have fun in Tijuana? I speak no Spanish didn't even take high school Spanish haha. Is there chicas that speaks English at the clubs?

And lastly, I assume passport is needed to mexico. Is it safe to lock it in the safe at some of the local hotels along with some cash? Or a debit card would be a smarter idea and only bring a few hundred bucks?

I'm a pretty light weight Asian person, therefore, don't have much alcohol tolerance until I get smashed and that's one thing I don't want to end up doing cause unlike others, I do weir things when I'm drunk. So If I buy a couple beers and then switch to say water or soda, will that be weir at Tijuana?
    I.

You don't need to speak any Spanish. I'm sure it would help to speak it, but I don't speak a lick of Spanish and I do just fine. I'll tell you what's fucking awesome is the free Google Translste app. You can download the specific language packs to the phone's hard drive so that you can use the app even in airplane mode. Of course this requires you being ok with pulling your phone out and letting the chica type on it but as long as you're in the club I think its safe. I tell you it totally changed the game for me in terms of negotiating with spanish-only girls.

I always carry my real passport on me and have a copy locked in the safe. Maybe this is a bad idea? Maybe others could weigh in.

As far as drinking I always drink wayyyy too much the first night and then feel like [CodeWord140] on day 2. Never again! On my upcoming trip I'm drinking nothing but Sprite all night. And maybe a Soma or 2. And maybe a joint or 2. And maybe a viagra or 2. But no booze!! Point is, you can drink whatever you want. Lots of people go and don't drink alcohol.

More Spanish is better than less. The state of English in Tijuana is abysmal. However, you'll be able to find a way to communicate, even if you have to get a mesero to translate. The "older" ladies usually speak passable English. The young ones, well, it's pretty spotty.

Wherever you lock your passport, you MUST have I'd on you at all times. Whether that's a passport, a DL or, in my case, a passport card, you MUST have it. The Mexican police can stop anybody, anytime, anywhere. And they often do. No probable cause is needed. If you don't have I'd, well, you may be OK or they may decide to fuck with you on General Principles.

A few hundred bucks? What exactly are you planning? Only carry approximately what you intend to spend.

Its safe. No Visa is needed. Yes you need your passport to get back to the states, depending on which hotel you stay they will have a safe. That should be good enough. Take enough cash to have fun but a card for an emergency would be ok.

You can drink whatever you want. I once sat at a booth in HK and heard a guy order a hot tea. I am not kidding. If you know you're a lightweight then don't get smashed. That is the one thing to avoid.

    Have fun.

    Flying Solo

I went to Tijuana by myself and felt perfectly safe there. Just do like you would in any other big city's red light district and you should be fine. Also, there were "chinos" (Asians) every bloody where! And buying the girls lots and lots of drinks too LOL! I didn't notice a lot of Asians going arriba to the bed chambers, but then again I wasn't paying too much attention to that. Go. Have fun. Just don't get drunk and do stupid things!

    Tijuana is safe.

Yes there are Asians. Lots of them.

When will you be there? Maybe people will be there at that time too.

    Good luck.

Thanks ItsMeBeyatch and Hugo for the info about the no-name short-term hotel. You'd think Hotel Coahuila would try to catch up to Cascadas by offering a public door to the alley from the main hotel. Oh well, guess I'm headed to Hotel Rizo de Oro if all of the Cascadas rooms are full.

    I see what you mean.

Check out this funny video of Coahuila Alley, not to be confused with Coahuila Street for us noobz. Everything seems nice and innocent:

Then there's this second video of the same alley where things are a little more dicey. I think I see some guys engaged in pirated video sales a quarter way through the clip (in the 58th second). Technically the guys are on Constitution just a few feet away from the alley. So Tijuana's hooker streets are slightly dicier than I thought.

Thanks to you, ItsMeBeyatch, and TomJackin for clearing that up! Would be kind of fun to find out what that short-term hotel next to La Valentina calls itself. It's official name I mean. Since they use towels displaying the name "Hotel Coahuila," do you think that short-term hotel is owned by the same folks as Hotel Coahuila or are they a different company, in which case I suppose the hotel would have a different name. Just a little fun Tijuana trivia, I guess.
From what I know the no name hotel also uses the name Hotel Coahuila. With the alley entrance being strictly for short term SG rooms and the Adelita entrance for Adelita girls and overnight stays. And yes the same folks own Adelita and both sides of Hotel Coahuila. They also own Bar Valentina which is also connected to Adelita Bar through a rear non public hallway. I'm pretty sure the Hotel also has a non public connection from the Adelita side to the alley side.

It rents ST rooms to the street putas for $6. The towels say hotel Coahuila, but I don't think it is the same as the Adelita's hotel.

There were a couple pretty girls, sisters, hang out in the door way. The older sister was murdered by her BF. After that they were all gone!

The alley side couhila hotel is for SW and the front side adelita entrance side is for Adelitas chicas. I've never stayed for a full night at the Adelitas hotel but I've been to both (alley side & Adelitas entrance side) and I'd rather go to my own room in cascadas. That's just my opinion

    I just got this:

And calling the lobby won't get you a reliable answer either. Today I called Hotel Coahuila using my best broken Spanish, and the employee there assured me there was an exit door from the hotel to both the calle and the callejon. Oh well. Thanks, Tomjackin, sounds like the public cannot enter and exit from the callejon. Maybe that hotel sign in the alley is for a different hotel renting space in the building.

Funny thing is the employee first told me there was only one exit, and then quickly switched his answer to two exits after I asked again. My Spanish is pretty rusty these days, having taken 3 Spanish classes many, many years ago at MU (11 credits), but I understood him perfectly and he understood me. Can't wait to practice my Spanish on las chicas bonitas en las avenidas!
