Busted. Sort of. I used to own a half share in Loco bar in street 130 two years ago but sold out after a year. I got exhausted with the long hours. The reality of running a bar does not match the dream.

If you look back through my posts you'll see that I've tried to be honest in my opinions and 'recommendations'. I've usually offered opinions on multiple bars or other attractions with the general aim of trying to help newcomers to Phnom Penh have a good time and not get ripped off.

I'd agree with this too. Many bars have "mosquito" girls that hang around you and pester for drinks even when you've bought your favoured girl a drink. Very annoying. Another bar nearby to definitely avoid is Pasha Bar in street 118. The girls are either mosquito girls or totally disinterested even when offered a ladydrink. Strange. Plus it has a heavy-handed and occasionally aggressive German manager.

The nice thing about Angry Birds and Honeypot in 130 is that the girls are very friendly but aren't allowed to actually ask for ladydrinks or be mosquitos so it makes for a much pleasanter experience, especially as there are some real hotties in both bars.

Street 130 is turning into a good area for nice bars, a change from the "in your face" type of bars that also tend to pad your bills in nearby street 136.

Other current recommendations include the noisy but fun Double D bar in 110 (but check your bills carefully) and the smart "@ the Office bar" in 118.

I hope my last visit prompted a distasteful review of Caramel Bar on Street 130. Let me reiterate: their aggressive lady-drink policies; the lady-swarm that leaves you unable to connect with your chosen partner; and the actual lack of talented women (they're so accustomed to sitting around sucking down lady drinks that they have no idea what to do in bed.) On the other hand, the well-reviewed Honey Pot Bar is just a few doors down, and Angry Birds are the other way on 130 with lots of lookers as well. Avoid Caramel Bar in light of much better choices.

I guess you can describe them that way if you're not happy with the way I described the area. But "the white building" doesn't appear on any map by that name while Sothearos Street certainly does. Anyway, yes that entire row of massage parlors on the left when traveling south offers HJ. Most of the 10,000 Riel places on the right side further south do too but they are absolutely disgusting inside. As do the massage places north of what Phnom on France street and probably 50 other places in PP.

Riverside is more hit or miss and has been for the last few years. Tourist influxes, NGOs with spy cameras and wanting to clean up the image of the most popular part of the city is the cause.

What is "Souk's Place"? Do you mean Sokun's Place? It was on the riverside for years. HJ was normal but usually not skilled and with a high asking price. Then it moved next to Kiwi Mart on Street 110. It's not there anymore. Did it move again or close?

Yes, Souk's Place is what I meant, thank you. It was located on the river when I was last there, so glad you mentioned it moved before I head back.

It's been 6 years since I was last in Cambodia and I'm thinking about heading back next month. Last time I had a tuk-tuk driver who showed me around but I'm keen to hire a motorbike / scooter this time and do a bit of exploring. I wouldn't mind checking out a few of the places on the outskirts, including K11. Not for any nefarious reason but just out of interest to see such an infamous place. I know the traffic in PP can be a bit crazy but I'm sure it's doable. Any opinions? Obviously I want to get girls from the usual bars but would also like to see a bit more of the 'down & dirty'.

You shouldn't have a problem to bring back a girl to the hotel, just ask at reception before check in.

This hotel is located near the best discos; just walk down Poonton to pick up some attractive freelancer. The best time is to go after 11 pm. For daytime fun, pay a visit to the Walk About hotel two block away from your hotel, they have got a good selection of girls.

Not so far from you, there is a massage parlor called Massa located near the independent monument, street 252. The massage is 10 $, for extras start from 30 $ to 50 $.

Barbershop with massage room straight opposite La Cyrcee 100%. Massage shops on the circle of what Phnom, N. O. Site, Up market massage place corner of Street 252 and the one west of street 51, cannot remember street number. That ate just a few doable places. Shops on Riversite north of what Phnom, no go with exception of site street where the Vietnamese cafe is on the corner. There is a Viets barberskop with OK massage room in the back.

I think it's more about what they can get away with putting one over on foreigners. I mean, I think the bars obviously are not on some mission to find husbands for girls, no, it's a business, and they're hiring cute girls who won't go out as a kind of bait and switch to get customers into the bar who will presume those are girls who can go out. It's a scam.

In case you haven't noticed there are hundreds of huge KTVs all over the country. These are the most popular options for local guys--not only the thousands of local elite who drive Lexus trucks but also regular guys who ride motorbikes. These are places to drink and have fun, usually in a group. Sometimes a girl with go with a guy and sometime they won't. Sometimes they want money and sometimes they don't. Of course tips for the time in the KTV and beergardens are always expected. A few exclusive KTVs would probably blow your mind. Local guys can easily blow $500 in a night just to drink, have fun and retire to a private room with a girl.

For guys who do want to buy sex immediately there are a few options. One is dirty local brothels but they are becoming less common. There are more on the outskirts than in the middle of the city and they are very cheap. The elite never go to these. Mostly guys who make $100-200 a month. Most foreigners never see them or never notice if they do see them. These sometimes double as $2. 50 massage places but not always. Most Khmer guys go to massage places for actual massages. The idea of paying for a handjob is unheard of.

Another option is the fish bowl type of massage. These are usually hidden in hotels. There are a half dozen in Phnom Penh. Guys walk in, point out a girl and go to a room. The rates are equal to or higher than the bars foreigners go to. Many guys that go to these places are sitting on huge amounts of money and aren't cheap. Those Lexus you see everywhere were purchased with cash.

Cambodians don't go out alone very often. It's almost never seen. Guys or girls. They like a warm open party atmosphere with singing and dancing. Even when guys go to a fish bowl type sex massage they often come in a group.

Foreigners are different. They go out alone, slide up to a bar and hunch over a beer. That's why the bars sprung up (during UNITAC, for foreign soldiers and officials). That's why they keep growing too. They almost never have local customers. These are places guys go to drink, play games and have fun. A few are basically brothels doubled as bars but its becoming less common. More common are places with nice girls who want to meet foreigners and have fun. Some go out with customers sometimes. Some never go out. These aren't working girl houses. A lot of girls are looking for a husband or boyfriend at least part time. This started with UNITAC too. Guys on the ground started giving them money to stay with them for months or even years. A "local rent a wife. " This practice still abounds for many guys on business for extended periods.

Foreigners who like the party atmosphere go to clubs like Pontoon and try to find a freelancer.

Foreigners who want to buy sex immediately can go to the few bars where every woman wants nothing more than a bar fine. Or they can go to the fish bowl type places mentioned where they will pay 30-60 for a short session. Or they will go to the bar at Nagaworld Casino where they will pay even more. Or they can go to a local brothel if they want to risk it. Or they can go to a guest house and ask one of the guys out front to call a girl up for them. That usually costs 10-30 dollars.

Lots of guys are happy to spend an extra dollar on a drink to have a nice young lady to sit with them. That's what the bars are organized around for the most part. The girls aren't looking to fuck multiple guys a day and make big money. If they were they would work in a fish bowl.

This is something we shouldn't need to remember. Seriously, these bars employ a team of hookers for customers to come and chat with and barfine. That's what these bars are for. So why are there girls in there trying to find husbands and boyfriends? They should be working at some bars that are set up for guys who are looking for girlfriends and wives, not in a bar where guys are looking for hookers. (Hmm, I want to find me a good wife, I know, I'll go down to the bar with all the prostitutes and find a girl who's not working as a prostitute.) It's dumb and annoying. It's like in Nana Plaza in Bangkok when a bar starts mixing in ladyboys together with their girls. Customers don't want that. If a guy wants a lady boy he will go to a ladyboy bar. It's a few doors down, can't miss it, the bar with all the ladyboys in front of it.

It may seem strange to you but there are guys who frequent bars in Phnom Penh because they want a drink and enjoy the company, not every guy in a bar is looking for a fuck.

I know LE Cyrcee. All girl go with custommers. Not very offen a girl say no. But it is always her right to say no, if she don't like the custommer.

Cambodia girls are not like Thai ladies. They are not educated and not as sophisticated, at least as the girls in Bangkok or Pataya who are always up for ST action so as to make money.

There are many reasons why a lady might not go with you, from her period starting, she has the runs, she has to be home (early shift girl), she is not yet "broken in" and is too young to take a large barang pounding her all night etc. Even once I saw a lady reject a young man because he did not wash and had a strong case of BO.

I once made the drunken mistake of pushing it by insisting that the lady who had slurped a couple of my lady drinks to go with me. Reluctantly she did. And I had what appeared to me in my drunken state a small pool of red on my sheets as a result. Yeck!
