There has been a massive economic slowdown in Dongguan, once called one of the "Four Guangdong Tigers". Chinese companies in the PRD (Pearl River Delta) have failed to quickly react to, and upgrade and innovate to survive, the current economic situation and the crash in the demand for electronics components (particularly plastic precision parts). The many Taiwanese companies there are contracting or shifting operations to other countries.

Without the enormous economic growth of the past 15 years (OK, I admit most Dongguan toy factories closed in the wake of the GFC), the likes of Changping will never be seen in the PRD again, even if Xi totally relaxes his 3 vices campaign (prostitution, gambling and drugs).

I've heard of red rope places all over China though, curiously, never in Beijing. More common in the north are special chairs with stirrups, straps, hole in the seat, etc. This is the kind of thing that can be fun as a novelty. Once you've experienced it once or twice, though, no real desire to repeat. Since the big crackdown last year, though, such apparatus are a major liability during "inspections", so they've largely disappeared from saunas. The only exception I know of is a big, popular sauna in Tianjin. Some of the rooms still have a vibrating chair with special handles and foot straps which your provider puts to creative use.

Originally, the red rope service included some intermittent fast spinning (the speed was controlled by the girl's feet), and apparently was quite popular in Shanghai. The photo below (Fei Tian sauna in Shanghai), clearly shows the technique. I experienced a similar service in Tokyo in the late 70's.

I agree these devices are more novelty than mind blowing experience (particularly as I like to be in control). Just one more thing to tick off your bucket list.

Just curious to know if anyone else has been to CP recently? If so, any recon of the Huimei and Swan Lake BBSs? How about the night market?

I had a bizare evening once when looking for the night market. I'd been told that it was near the Manhatten, but misunderstood and went walking into the Manhatten lobby sometime after midnight. I was greeted by a nice looking lady in a business suit whom I took to be a hotel manager. I learned, pretty quickly, that she was not. She was, in fact, a mommy from the KTV upstairs. She escorted me upstairs and encouraged me to pick a girl. The 3 of us ended up back at my hotel. What a memory! I wonder if that KTV is still there in the Manhatten?

This week I returned to ChangPing after a two year absence (just after the crackdown began).

I was surprised to see the ChangPing street mommies back in action. After hitting the DVD shop one evening, I wandered down to the Hui Mei Hotel and then through that dark triangular shaped park at the intersection between the Virgin and the Hui Mei. To my surprise, I was accosted by mommies. They would show the girl on the phone and give the price. I saw one that was acceptable, so the mommy followed me back to the Hui Hua and up to my room.

I'm by no means a Changping vet, but I visited 4 times from 2011 to 2013. The girls in the BBSs near Swan Lake Road were always 250, while the ones from the shops behind the Huimei were 200. Compared to Tianjin, prices were about the same, then, at that time.

Last week I stopped by a BBS in Tianjin, right in the heart of town. Spent about 1/2 an hour with a really lovely 20 yr old from nearby Hebei; exemplary service, BBBJ, FS in 3 positions, etc. 200 quai, same as 2 yrs ago.

When in CP, I always took in a KTV party or 2 with BSD, which was always great. Now that those are gone, I can no longer justify traveling to Changping, even from HK. IMHO, the median CP BBS ST price was always slightly more expensive than SZ. I recall when they raised the BBS price to 250 RMB ST and we boycotted and refused to pay the extra 50 RMB. We got away with it for awhile and then the mommies refused to serve us eventually. I reckon the cheapest FS in CP were the catacombs at 30RMB. Not for the faint of heart!

I was the last person to session in the catacombs. It was one very rainy night in May, 2010. There was one girl working, I entered her room soon after a bloke on a bicycle left.
