While what you said was very reasonable, the principle you proposed could mean no one in any company should get a raise or bonus because his work is good, because everyone else would be expecting or demanding it. That is the downside of collective bargaining. An often cited example is the teachers union in the US: there will be equality of outcome, I. E. Everyone get paid the same, no matter what one put in. There is no incentive to do anything extra. The good teacher get paid the same as the bad ones. Substitute sauna girls. There is no universally and equally applicable situations. I accept a no tipping policy in some saunas, but that is not saying I think it is the correct policy, or will result in more customer satisfaction.

No tipping consensus also exists in many Western service industries. Not sure anyone in your hometown would appreciate you tipping bus driver or TSA security guard. If you tell boss the girl was awesome and call to reserve her services again, you've done much more for her. It's not just about your liberty to tip but about a business' or organization's liberty to operate as it chooses in order to please the greatest number of customers and maximize revenue.

You're banging hookers in a foreign country, not saving the rain forest. Follow what the people who work there say, and don't make a fucking fuss.

Posts: 214I did not know there was a no tipping policy at Sacrosa. The first time, I just thought that the manager did not want a girl to come out from the play area to the locker area, where the guys were undressing to do the naked walk. (I was not sure the manager understood my not ready for prime time Mandarin anyway) The second time, when the staff noticed I had some money in my hand, they told me not to bring cash or other valuables into the play area. I was not entirely certain that meant a strict no tipping policy, and I was not fighting it if there was one. I just said I do not like such policy. That takes away free choice, and is totally against a libertarian bent.

If a sauna has a strict no-tip policy, there's good reason for it. Makes no sense to violate the policy.

Just because something is the accepted way to do things in a locale does not mean that it is always the right thing to do. And choosing to not observe it is not a ghastly violation of national sovereignty or condemnation of the way of those people. To take the argument to a more extreme level, do you ignore all the things around the world that are grievous violation of human right or women's right, and say " Well. That is the local's way, so that is quite alright"? I hope you are as culturally understanding when you are sitting in the kettle of boiling water, while the local cannibals salt it to taste.

Tips are widely, not accepted in China, and if the shop people say you shouldn't give them tips, then don't give them tips.
It's not your right to say what is and isn't acceptable in a country that isn't yours.
They refused, so you should respect the way they do business, and leave it at that.
Vote with your money and feet and go back if it's so special to you.

Posts: 214Parasitius, I guess you must have a firm position your boss should never give you a raise or a year end bonus for a job well done. Perhaps those offers had never been extended to you. If they did, you definitely should refuse firmly . Those are so corrupting. And you don't deserve anything anyway. But, strangely and contradictory, you mentioned in your rant a connection between service and gratuity.
And FYI, I do not tip automatically, but if I felt that the girl had done a good job, I would like to show that I noticed and appreciated it. You can do whatever you want. I do not call your attitude that of a cheap skate, so do not label a simple token of appreciation as corruption of a culture.

Not trying to start an argument so I'm probably not going to write more but. Gosh. There is no such thing as a "well deserved x" when x don't exist. That's all.
It's very heartening to know Sacrosa is still around, haven't been since 2009 and doubted it could possibly exist in this day and age still. In that regard, thanks for helping me have high hopes I can go back to SH for a nice visit one day!

Posts: 214Sacrosa is a real value play.
This afternoon was the third time I visited Sacrosa. All three times I had great times with the visits.
1. The place is very easy to get to by subway, so you can avoid taxi rip off. Around the block if you get off at Shangcheng Road station of Line 9.
2. All three times I had great GFE. Today I chose 516, from Harbin. Look wise maybe 6-7, She was a real MILF though. And service was outstanding, attentive and unhurried. Recommended.
3. I had a busy morning and afternoon. I did not have time for lunch. I left work early and go monger. I was a little hungry. I was offered snacks, gratis. Some of the choices were dumplings or noodles. I had a hearty bowl of noodles with pork chop.
4. The place was in a high rent commercial area and the decor and fixings were decent and clean.
I had the great GFE, and the snack, all for 600 rmb. Must be one of the top value play in Shanghai. Granted the girls are not as pretty as those in Bodi or Kang Ding.
There two things I do not like:
1.ComMon. Shower area before you can change in the sauna uniform and a long naked walk with a bunch of guys.
2. I had GFE and a great time, I wanted to tip the girls, but disallowed. The last time, I went back to the locker to get some money and asked if I could have the girl came out so I can give her the extra money that she well deserved. The manager refused. Today I took the money in my hand (I had to do the naked walk), but was told I could not bring cash (or any valuables) into the play area. I was directed back to the locker to leave te money there. I really felt bad that I could not show my appreciation after such a great session. The girls were really short-changed by such practice.
