FYI for future trips or anybody else:

When you get to Parque Arvi walk to the road, go 100 ft left and wait (or get on) the brightly painted old ford Jingle bus, it's free and will take you to the entrance (small fee) to the neat part of the park, nature walk, butterfly garden, open air restaurant, lake, walk around the right side of the lake and it will take you to the rental rowboats, can be a fun day there.

First stop at an ATM (marked "Cajero") and withdrawal some Colombian pesos. When you exit the airport, look at the wall of the terminal. There's a big sign posted with the set rates for lots of destinations. I believe Poblado is 70 k right now. You'll see a line of white taxis. Go to the front of the line and ask "cuanto cuesta?" If he gives a price more than 5 k over the posted price, go to the next one and ask.

Calle 10 and Carrera 43 A is a busy, safe area. You should be fine. Just put your luggage against the building and stand in front of it.

Don't dress up. Decent jeans and a polo, t or button down shirt are fine. At night you might want a long sleeve shirt or light jacket. Temperature will get to the low 60's. Depends on how you are with that temperature.

Walking to Parque Lleras is no problem day or night. It's slightly uphill, but not too bad.

Las Cabanas is nearby. Any taxi driver can take you there. Cost is 98 k for 6 hours. Farther away, but nicer for about the same price is Motel Ibiza. Once again any taxi driver will know where it's at.

In Mayorista there are some cheap ones that charge 16-17 k per hour. No idea on cleanliness or quality.

Keep your valuables locked or hidden away. Don't leave the girl unattended at any time. Don't go to sleep while she's in the apartment. Don't shower, unless you shower with her. ((At any given time, there are a few people rolling luggage, or worse, walking around in sandals and with one back pack on their back, and the other on their chest. Afternoon is fine. That neighborhood is fine. Just limit your exposure and get that loot into the apartment, pronto. That is when you are most vulnerable. Have the company know you are coming. ((It's a safe neighborhood. I've stayed in apartments there.

Be observant. If the streets are crowded with regular people, local people, walking the same streets, and you do not stick out by being dressed differently, wearing jewelry/watches/etc., flashing your cash and expensive cell phone, you will be OK. If you the streets are deserted, take a cab. Sure, it is a short distance, and you will pay the cabbie the minimum even if you did not reach it, but it might be worth it. Heck, sometimes you don't need the exercise and you don't want to walk the hill. Sometimes, that $2 cabfare is what saves you from being victimized.

Don't carry anything you are not willing to give up at gun point. Get a second passport that is limited to travel to only 2-3 of your top mongering destinations. Yes, a 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th passport that is good for a designated country or two are available. Bring two passports, hide one, put the other in the safe.
