Also the Miami Herald recently covered that:

My buddy Steward who is retired in Med, after living at the Hotel Botero for a year got a apt:
It is in Belen La Palma, has a balcony, living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen for $240 a month, utilities included. Says he's surrounded by good neighborhoods, two blocks from an Exito, 10 minutes walk from Los Molinos Mall.

Posts: 18154Now that is what would be weird to me. When you walk you go at your own pace and can stop and talk to whoever whenever. Turn around and walk back in the same direction. If you are in a car you have to go with the flow of traffic. Then say you pass by and see a chick you like. You tell the taxi to circle back around. By then a guy like me has already walked up and taken her. Then people see the same car stopping and going and circling around and it looks suspicious. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. There are thousands of people everyday walking and doing this and you want to be the only one in a car sticking out like a sore thumb.

Posts: 144I'm an avid cyclist and gave up my car for a bike. I live just outside NYC. Biking the streets is hazardous most everywhere though. I can't imagine navigating the streets of Medellin on bike, especially not knowing the city well. There doesn't seem to be many bike lanes. And motorists are completely crazy in Medellin as is the case in much of Latin America. It is dangerous enough for a pedestrian. Perhaps when I get there you can show me the way.

Posts: 250Bicycle! On bike I can give you a perspective of Medellin like no other. Sketchy areas seem not quite as sketchy. We can cover 10 times more ground on bicyle than on foot and you will notice 1000 times more detail than if you were cruising around in a car. I know the city very well. Who wants to ride bikes?

Posts: 6418From the well over 200 chicas I have seen in casas so far this trip very few are in their late 20's. The vast majority are in their early 20's. A few even in their late teens.

Hotel Nutibara is a grand old hotel that after 6 PM no outside guests are allowed.

Posts: 127Our story is similar and I am also planning to retire in next few years in a warm country full of beauties. Of course, you can live a comfortable life for your monthly pension if you do not monger. Being american, you might find a young colombian as a wife.

Posts: 144Living in CO on a limited budget
This post is directed to expats living in CO or knowledgeable about the subject. It has nothing to do with the theme of this board, sorry. I hesitate to get too personal, but screw it. For those that subscribe to expat boards, I've also asked the same question on another board. Please excuse the repetition.
I'm an American looking to retire in Medellin or possibly Cali or elsewhere, though my experience outside Medellin is very limited. I only mention Cali as I believe the cost of living is less than Medellin and I like warm weather. I'd like to inquire what kind of life I would have living on a small pension of about $2200 monthly. The best I can tell from my visits is that my standard of living would be much lower than it is now.
Not to get into all the gory details, I lost my business and with it, my savings. Hence, I have to rely on my pension. Although I'm a professional and have commanded a good salary, at 67 I find that jobs are much more difficult to come by. I was recently laid off and can't even get an interview. Besides, after over 50 years of working, I'm ready to leave the cold winters here in the northeast and enjoy retired life.
Is a decent apartment in a relatively safe area with enough left over for food, modest entertainment, basic medical (I'm healthy), etc possible in my circumstances? The decision I need to make is whether to struggle to look for work so I can replenish my savings somewhat or take the plunge and retire. Thanks.

Posts: 53If you are going to participate in this type of activity, you must know there's always a risk, whether it is the risk of being robbed, drugged, beaten by thugs, etc. If you want risk free simply don't partake in this hobby because it doesn't exist. Having said that, you can minimize the potential for being a victim. My recommendations: 1) Don't leave your drinks unattended, better to open your own beer and hold it in your hand. Best to not drink so as you're in control and alert at all times. 2) Don't do drugs as you're going to lose control of the situation. 3) keep your valuables and belongings hidden and in a safe place. I split then hide my currency, passport, etc. In multiple places so if one place is discovered and stolen all is not lost. 4) Don't leave the chicas alone and don't let them split from you. All three take a shower together, go to the balcony together, smoke the cigarette outside together, etc. Etc. You always want to be in visual contact with the chicas 4) once inside the apt, lock the door and take out the key so the chics can't let someone in. Most need a key to lock and don't operate with a latch which is ideal 5) if there's a doorman / security, slip them little cash and ask them to call you and check on you before they let the girls leave the building.

Posts: 472All I can Say Is This.
A year ago, I fell in love with the Medellin post for Colombia, because it seemed exciting and the girls seemed incredible. The girls are incredible, Medellin is a beautiful place to find girls and members will do anything do distract other members from finding quality chics. I went to Medellin and hooked up with wolf and he taught me the ropes. I went back 16 more times after that. One day, members find 10's, then they get'them cheap, then the Casas's are the best thing smoking and the truth is its just distraction.

If your pesos are little, then save more, and then go find you some expensive chics with horrible sex. But let me assure you, no one has better sex than a chic with a hungry child and an impending rent bill, that's why most chics are in Vera Cruz. Look back through my posts and you will see I post hotel rooms, girls, locations. Look through the many posts and you will see Hotel Normandia is girl friendly, clean, old but it is only $16.00/ day.
On a bright note, the Cartel, does not really deal with everyday chicas who work in this profession, these girls talk too much, and it puts the Cartel at risk, so don't worry about banging the Cartel's girl, they wouldn't risk dealing with these loose ends, only mongers like us care about banging these chics and we have no Narco's they can rat on us about, Pollo Negro is out. LOL.

Posts: 763I think but am not sure Nutribara is no guests after 9 pm but I'd email or write them. I stay behind there at the Botero, review in the MED hotel thread, post #925.

Next time I think I will try the Hotel 3 the Suite, rooms look nice.

Posts: 112I forgot to mention Tinder is chock full of model profiles, most of which also list their instagram page and tell you to message them there.

Posts: 1136I think we need to take a step back from the Narcos and Sicario series. There are lots of '10's' that aren't involved in anything nefarious. The criminal organizations are not efficient enough to grab all of them into some bizarre cartel to arabs ladder system. Most never really retire because unless you work for a multinational or run a successful business you aren't going to earn much in Colombia.

Posts: 112In my case it was it was a combination of blind luck and casting a large net, messaging hundreds of girls on facebook. It was only after I slept with them and added their instagram pages did I realize they had 150,000+ followers.

Posts: 4346You left out the Curacao / Aruba / Saint Martin circuit. It's real. What the cartels do or don't do makes no difference to me. What little I know of that world does not appeal to me in any way.
