I would add to this some things that I have been told about buying apartments in Medellin. I think most people know that housing in Medellin (Colombia in general) is classified economically as estratos or strata and given a number according to their expense and / or quality of living. Estatos run from 1 to 6 with 6 being the best and 1 being the worst. So 1-2 are poverty to low wage working neighborhoods, 3 and 4 are considered middle class, 5 is upper middle class to wealthy and 6 is straight up luxury. Caveats about this information are these, besides the fact that this is pre-coronavirus information, meaning how the economic impact of the lockdown effects things is an unkown. The following is what I have gathered from people who live in Medellin but this is only two sources and that does not make it golden information, in fact they do not have direct experience buying and selling expensive real estate so it could just be their opinion but I did hear this from two different people.

I have looked for a place in Medellin for more than 5 years, finally found what I liked in Laureles last December. Its nice and flat, with a lot of great bike paths (If you see an old fat man on a red and black GW, stop me and say Hi). I have seen the newer buildings going up, and want to walk a long way away from them! I have 110 M plus two patios, one with a garden, the other off the kitchen, BBQ! I need a good kitchen, and this is going to work. The restaurants are whatever you want, and there are some great ones within a short walk. I paid less than I would have for a 1 br in any mid-sized city in the US. My monthly fees are $COP 350,000, about $USD 100. Water, light and gas are 250.000 cop. Add internet and cell for COP 100.000 and that is my monthly nut. Paid COP 6,000 at the Plazulita de las Americas the other day, for breakfast of scrambled eggs, arepa con queso, and chocolate negro. About $usd 1.75. From a very cute young lady who is studying English.

Not looking for resale value, but I figure my heirs will do OK. However, at this price, if I have to walk away, no huge deal.

In fact, don't give a damn about ROI or resale, but my quality of life is pretty much unmatched. Gee so sorry I did not buy that condo in Portland or San Francisco!

Because after saying okay but let me confirm your identity in videoconference just so to know you are actually selling pictures of yourself. That's the Luna Lunera apartment. They moved there from the carrera 81 building for more space at lower rent. They told me the pay 1. 8 million / month and it includes a couple of parking spaces in the garage. While it does seem rare (re-infection), I hope you are right and that immunity is long-lived. That would be great news.

I never said immunity is or will be long lived. I said SO FAR, previous infection has made people immune. Until such time when reinfections start to reappear in the numbers that would be predicted by the know attack rate of the virus (this is not "random") then immunity has been conferred. Long term immunity can be achieved by beta cells ability to remanufacture antibodies from "memory" without the presence of detectable antibodies. This mechanism has not yet been proven in Covid. And we don't know the effect of future strains, blah, blah, blah. For now, you don't have to wonder, the proof is right in front of you. Even when the vaccine comes out, we won't know at first if will we need to be revaccinated and how often, annually like influenza, or less often? You are supporting the immunity argument when you talk about the rare cases of reinfection to date. The exception proves the rule.

As far as the "effect," I explained it in macro and micro simple language, but that's okay. I will speak for myself and others can form their own opinions.
