Nearly everything people do, good or bad, they do because it makes them feel good. When you get a girl to come over for a great rate, you feel good. The guy who scores a $110 round trip on Spirit, then gets bumped for a $300 voucher and a ticket on the next flight might feel good, or bad depending on what he values more. It's all tied up in the values of each person.

I think anytime an American violates the law in a Foreign Country where a police report is filed, and it's a very violent act that results in a person going to the hospital, the local newspaper would pickup that story.

If the victim of the alleged attack was a bank teller in Poblado or Usaquen, it would definitely be reported. A hooker? Not necessarily.

It's been brought to my attention the story may not be true. However, the moral of the story is valid. If you decide to beat up a hooker, bad things may come your way and your only hope is that the trouble comes wearing badges.

I do not know for certain, but I believe it was a monger who tipped the police where to find him. I know that some mongers were definitely getting the word out to the girls warning about him.

As for "not a monger", I wish that was true. But to the outside world he is a monger. A group, especially one outside society's norm, is judged by its worst members, not its best.

100% completely baseless n false story. Where's the article on this arrest, or did you hear it from some chica? I know the person who this in reference too. He is collecting info to potentially file a lawsuit against the person, quite possibly a member on this board, whose spreading these false rumors. I still wonder how can someone can get robbed on La 70, like I read here, not even at night, but during the day. If you get robbed during the day, you are really doing something wrong. I have been walking en el centro for hours and no one touched me. And I'm planning to go after midnight, with just enough money for the taxi, if not any, without my phone, so they will have nothing to rob.

I want to see if it's so dangerous like people say, because I'm sure it's not. They do rob, for sure, but if you don't have anything to rob, they will not rob you anything. During the day there is a LOT of police, and I have spoken with a policeman who told me they are there the entire night. Of course the night is much worse en El Centro, but it's not the Far West.

To be robbed on La 70 you must be dumb, really. There are places in Italy, and not even in the South, much more dangerous than La 70. I never felt unsafe, and I have been walking at 2 AM in the night. I went to la Mayorista at 1 AM.

I think some of you are paranoid, like the one saying you shouldn't give your phone number. LOL, to a Colombian chica. Fact is, you don't know what you are talking about.

I've walked all over La 70 and the surrounding streets at all hours. 3 times I saw potential problems, all involving the same guy, twice during the day. I had 3 guys attempt to rob me in El Centro, in the middle of a crowd in broad daylight. I saw 2 guys rob and beat a guy one night next to the Veracruz church.

No place is dangerous, until suddenly it is.

Going to walk around El Centro after midnight, with nothing to steal sounds like a good idea, if you're wanting to rate the Colombian healthcare system. You may need to rate it posthumously.

The flaw in your plan is the thieves don't know whether you have nothing to steal, or you're not giving them what they want. However, since you're obviously not a resident of El Centro, it seems unlikely they'll believe you have nothing. From about every report I've heard, including one from a girl I know in Milagro, when people refuse to give money, they get stabbed or shot.

As for the police, after about 9, they become scarce in El Centro.

1. I am not spreading any false rumors. The language I used clearly indicates I am sharing something I heard.

2. Nothing in my report, or the follow up reports can in any way be used to identify the alleged perpetrator, unless he has been arrested and there is a news story about it.

3. The report serves a purpose to warn people about the sort of behavior your friend allegedly enjoys.

If you or anyone else feels that warning mongers against committing acts of violence in Medellin is wrong, so be it. I will not budge from my belief that mongering should be safe for all parties.

As for the lawsuit, I would love to ne in the courtroom to hear that one.

Apparently, a monger known to frequent Medellin was arrested at the Bogota airport on Tuesday. His passport was confiscated and he will spend 2 months in jail before being deported. He will not be allowed to return for 5 years.

Allegedly this guy liked to tie up hookers and beat them. All good, up to a point. However, he beat them bloody and at least one ended up in the hospital.

There was someone a few months back talking about beating up hookers if they gave him any problems. It would appear that's not a good idea.
