Here are the official stats on robberies, a person is 3 times as likely to get robbed in El Centro as they are in Laureles or Poblado but that does not mean you are exempt in Laureles or Poblado it just means it is less likely to happen there. The most likely way is as described in this article and that has been described in posts here in this forum, It is by the passenger of a motorcycle. I think they actually have term for these guys in Colombia but I cannot remember what it is. Looking at just Laureles and Poblado the stats average out to be like 5 per day that means 15 per day in El centro on the average - so like Nounce said robbery can happen anywhere -
    https://medellinguru.com/medellin-robbery/

According to this other article the motorcycle rider thing started as a means for hitman (a method that is still around) of the Escobar cartel (it also says that the person who thought of it was eventually assassinated in the same way) so that it would be easier to evade the police through traffic, but also robbers caught on to this method, In 2014 Medellin even passed an ordinance banning male passengers of certain age group on the back of motorcycles. "motorcycle assassinations decreased by 39 percent, Robberies of cars and of motorcycles by motorcycle riders each fell by nearly 30 percent. " I do not know if that law is still in effect.

Good advice you do not want to be denied boarding or entry into the country

So I went and got my test today and 15 minutes later I was told I was negative. However, when I looked at the results that were sent to me, it described a "MOLECULAR POCT" test. From my understanding, a PCR test is a molecular test. But since the results says "POCT" and not "PCR" I suspect that the test will not be accepted. So, I've made another appointment with CVS for the PCR test that goes to the lab and once again I'll be waiting to see if I get my results in time. Very frustrating. What I've found is that most of the folks who give these tests are not very knowledgeable (and the web pages do not always give you clear information). So you really have to pay attention. Ugh.
Excellent advice as in Southern California while researching places offering the PCR test, hidden in the fine print of one lab was what you described not being the true PCR test performed in a lab that Colombia is looking for. Found a place that if your tested by 8 AM in the morning they will have same day results and it's called the Molecular PCR Nasopharyngeal Swab at a cost of $275 USD for same day results.

Robbery can happen almost anywhere. I guess you are generalizing a specific case as the norm.

No place is dangerous, until suddenly it is.

Going to walk around El Centro after midnight, with nothing to steal sounds like a good idea, if you're wanting to rate the Colombian healthcare system. You may need to rate it posthumously.

The flaw in your plan is the thieves don't know whether you have nothing to steal, or you're not giving them what they want. However, since you're obviously not a resident of El Centro, it seems unlikely they'll believe you have nothing. From about every report I've heard, including one from a girl I know in Milagro, when people refuse to give money, they get stabbed or shot.

As for the police, after about 9, they become scarce in El Centro.

Let us know how your experiment works out, or we can read about it elsewhere.
If you have nothing with you, you have nothing. They can search you. You give them what you have. 50k for example, without any resistance, you show your pockets are empty and it's over. If you go there with your phone and 1 million, then they will pretend your phone and 1 million, but if you have 20 k for the taxi, they will take what you have. Or you think they are gone to cut in half and search if you have some money in your belly? Yesterday I didn't have my phone with me, and I was there with almost no cash. I was there in the dark, from 6 to 8:30. No one touched me. I tell you more, I was feeling more secure than in the afternoon, because less people, greater distance, I was much more in control. One guy approached me, he followed me for a 10/20 seconds, till I said him to fuck off. I never let him closer than 2 meters from me. I doubt the junkies of el centro have guns. Cartel has guns, not the junkies in el centro. If they had one, they would have sold to buy drugs. The risk to get robbed is real, but who gives a fuck if they still me 50000 COP, I don't really mind. You all speak about Medellin like you can't go out after 6, which is bullshit.

I have had no problem building a list on FB. Just need to get the first few started, then the gates will open. They will be sending you friend requests.

I started a new FB account 3 days ago and have over 200 contacts.

Find the gringos with lists, or chicas that have a lot of likes / comments from gringos.

    Super easy.

That may be why so many use Facebook.

Hello. Are you available? I want to see you. How much do you want? I pay (whatever price you want). Is that okay? Yes I will give you 20 k for a taxi. Can you be here in 1 hour? Okay. I will see you in 2 hours.

(Hola. Estás disponible? Quiero verte. Cuanto quieres por un rato? Siempre pago (whatever). Está bien? Sí te daré 20 mil mas por un taxi. Puedes llegar acá en una hora? Claro. Entonces te veré en 2 horas.).

She'll show up, probably want to use the bathroom to freshen up, might come out in lingerie or just underwear. In less than 15 minutes she will be doing what you want. If she's enjoying your company she'll still be doing what you want 2 or 3 hours later. When she's done, give her the money and walk her to the door.

Tomorrow she'll send pictures of her friend and ask if you want a trio.

I wouldn't call her a super star performer but I would bet you'll be satisfied with your cita.
Excellent thanks. Can you say what she charges? What she does or doesn't do?

She strikes me as the girl next door type.

I would say the guy should tell his side of the story. I'm certainly willing to give him an unbiased (reasonably) hearing.

I would also say, again my focus on reporting the incident (with no identifying details) was to discourage the type of behavior the guy has been (perhaps falsely) accused of.

Nearly everything people do, good or bad, they do because it makes them feel good. When you get a girl to come over for a great rate, you feel good. The guy who scores a $110 round trip on Spirit, then gets bumped for a $300 voucher and a ticket on the next flight might feel good, or bad depending on what he values more. It's all tied up in the values of each person.

    Thanks,
If the victim of the alleged attack was a bank teller in Poblado or Usaquen, it would definitely be reported. A hooker? Not necessarily.

It's been brought to my attention the story may not be true. However, the moral of the story is valid. If you decide to beat up a hooker, bad things may come your way and your only hope is that the trouble comes wearing badges.

    Newbie advice?

Hey there! I've read a lot but still need a little info before I book a flight! Ha! I'm 40 why. O white guy looking to monger safely.

I don't speak Spanish. Does Colombia become a no-go without the language?

How dangerous is Medellin? I've been in many many countries but S. America seems a different beast! Is it possible to walk around during the day, maybe visit a casa, and have a 99% chance of getting home safe?

Are Colombian girls a little kinkier than most? Maybe a little BDSM. A little face-fucking. Is this possible here?

Is it safe enough to travel around the country? I'd love to take a bus over to the coast, maybe head over the border North. Am I going to have a problem?

What do girls think about taking videos / photos? No problem?

How much do I need to check for scammers? Is it likely to find a 'good girl' on FB or Tinder or whatever, without having to screen them a lot?

Looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to get involved!

    Banco Pichincha ATM

I just tried using my Schwab card at Banco Pichincha and it reported transaction not allowed. So far, it has not taken money from my account. I will try a couple of other banks later today and report whether success / failure.
