Too lazy to translate it all, but this weekend is a 3 day holiday weekend (Colombia has lots of random holidays), so dry law starts Friday to Monday. Just some info for those heading here this week. That last one is something most of the people who frequent this board have never had to learn. We're mostly people who are on the phone complaining about the air conditioner or the lack of hot water. I think what you said about the girls can be said about the mongers as well. It is just the opposite situation. The main difference is the seller knows more about the buyer than the buyer knows about the seller. They also have a great merchandise that can basically sells itself. Just for the record, there are others on this board who have never found much of any of Jbee2 posts as being insightful, regardless of this, I agree with you that this post merits a lot in that it touches on things that very few board members are aware of in Medellin, could relate to, or ever even imagine. The rest of your education really needs to wait until you have been to Colombia, although it's unlikely you'll learn much. While there are certainly many working girls in Medellin who are poorly educated, there are also many who are not only well educated, but quite intelligent and capable of holding their own in any conversation.

The one thing that caught me off guard was the coffee situation. I'm in Colombia, and restaurants and coffee shops are trying to serve me Americanos? I expect that in Thailand, but I wasn't prepared for it to be impossible to get properly brewed coffee in Colombia. Fortunately all the Airbnb's seem to be stocked with a coffee machine, but it felt stupid having to suck down 3 cups of coffee before heading out to breakfast.

Actually the best coffee is not in the restaurants or the coffee shops, but from the vendors on the street with their thermos's and they call it Tinto. The Juan Valez's and others are just Starbucks knock-offs.

All over Colombia you will see vendors with insulated flasks, and besides Tinto which is typically already sweetened with sugar, some of the girls selling it, especially in El Centro, go to the room as well. A strategy to be employed, which has worked for me is when I see something of interest, such as a pretty coffee vendor or a girl selling candy is to buy a coffee or buy some pieces of candy from them and take it from there. My best luck has been with the candy girls, they can be so sweet.
