Glad that sanity is back on the thread. El Centro is very dangerous during daytime, as well as night time. I am not sure if the area is safer during day. The robbers are paying a cut to the police and local gang, so they are protected. They are well-organized, operate based on division of labor (ie. Marking, diversion, assault, etc) and just implement variety of "standard operating procedures" depending upon the situation, location and target.
In December last year, 4 gringos I knew were attacked with knives during day. Two of them always acted like a "big shot," or tough guy. Also there were a group of newbie gringos at the Veracruz area. In spite of advices from some people, they hang around on the middle of street, drunk beer (locals don't do this), talked / laughed loud to the street people and hookers, some of who looked very young. Everybody was watching them. Again, they acted like a big shot, and eventually two of them had a physical fight with a local punk. Next day, a real organization guy showed up and extorted compensation money (about 300 k peso per person) from the gringos. The gringos paid and left the area in a few days.
There is no any good deal at El Centro- I saw it in 20 years. There are only schemes, tricks, and violence. There is no reason why gringos should come to the area. Girls and other funs are available at other areas for similar prices.

Posts: 4630Surfer, remember it was the executive branch that dropped the requirement. Then a judge said it had to be implemented. Now a higher court has ruled the lower court decision was not valid. It seems to me that the decision to have to have testing done is immediately voided.

Posts: 1274I assume you are asking about the future? Spain is not open for business last I checked. But for the sake of discussion even in normal times just the remoteness of La Jonquera would set me off, by the time you fly into say Barcelona then get a Ryanair type hot over to Girona you still got a get an hour in a bus or taxi, So then price wise those chicas pimps set the prices (yes they have pimps especially all those ones brought in from Romania, so they want like 50 euro for half hour. Ask these Centro guys what they can do with 50 Euro LOL My self I would spend a few hours with FB princess for that money and will have taken care of her taxi and all. Economics will always fall on the side of Medellin, at least between those two. A lot of board members might say that Brazil is even better.

Posts: 127Gringos and Foreigners shouldn't go to the areas where they do not belong. If you are person at the wrong place and at the wrong time, then you are inviting yourself trouble. It does not matter how strong or big you are. The people are professional criminals at parque botero and its their day and night chore to rob and stab. Usually, the gang come from four directions and two people hold you from behind and few surround you, emptying out your pockets or even stab you if you resist. Please my fellow mongers, there is plenty of fish available in the ocean, but do not go fishing in sharks area.

I am 5'9" about 280 lbs and I can handle myself extremely well. Grew up all over the south, from Ft Lauderdale back to Atlanta, by way of Puerto Rico, still Nounce and I watched a girl nearly stabbed to death in Parque Botero in broad day. I have never been robbed in Botero and I once hung out in that park everyday for a minimum of 8 hours. You would never catch me anywhere near Parque Botero after 10 pm, and I try not to be in that park later than 8 pm or 9 pm. Its just something about being stabbed that is just way too different than being shot like they do in America. Being stabbed is very personal and I have seen many people stabbed in Parque Botero, but hey I guess you can handle it, but even I would not chance hanging in Parque Botero after 8 pm post quarantine. Pollo Negro is Out!

3 of the 5 chicas and this photo, with that being said, one of the girls in this photo is very special and the personal girlfriend of one of the biggest boss's in the area of Botero park. So be careful, others are just local girls trying to survive! Pollo Negro is out!

Posts: 465It is not whether you can speak spanish or not. I am fluent in spanish and have visited el Centro only a few times. It takes a certain type to enjoy mongering there and I am not one of them. Not saying mongers should avoid it because I know some really enjoy it. But beware it is not for everyone and certainly not a place I would be when it starts getting dark out. There are many mongers who stay in laureles and other areas and spend less than $30 dollars a day for an apartment with AC in a safe area with security. You don't have to stay in Poblado!! Too many times fans of el Centro make it sound like you are either an el Centro guy or a poblado fan. This is far from the truth and very misleading. Medellin is a large city that offers many different places to be.

Mexico and espec Tijuana usually have the highest murder rates in the world, period.

They seem to target gringos, I've been to Mexico and Tijuana 100 x some of the worst areas on the planet.
Zero issues, stats don't lie but, liars use stats.
Most of Mexico homicides are cartel violence.
The murder rate in Chicago is very very high, I feel it is one of the safest cities in the world.
Why?
I don't live where the killing is, they are not targeting me or tourists.
You have to learn the word nuance.

I have lived in Chicago 53 yrs and have never ever heard of even 1 person getting robbed (let alone knifed) leaving Wrigley Field, I used to live 1/2 mile away.

Posts: 749Not going to argue neither
It's starting out with one think I did not agree to but now it's a whole bunch of rambling going on, I speak no Spanish at all and have had many beers in el Centro with zero jam ups!

Totally disagree on that statement, when staying in that area, it's definitely not a main bloodline but I've picked up few girls on the Main Street on way to supermarket once, just walking around another, and ended up in my apartment and had great time! So to make people believe no mongering whatsoever is stretching it, enjoy, stay safe, party on! Still waiting on information if no more test needed to land!

Posts: 339Most Dangerous Cities of 2020
For the record, Colombia hardly ranks, with only Palmyra and Cali making the list. You're more likely to be killed in Cancun than Medellin.

You'll find the rankings change a little, but the cities are the same. Big cities are inherently dangerous, but you're in far more danger picking up a SW in Baltimore than in Medellin. Probably getting less for more, as well.
