Posts: 4347This happens more often than it should. It's even more of a problem with cooopebombas, the app that caters to yellow taxis. Both apps let you pay with credit cards. You can set up credit cards as a default payment in fact. Some of the drivers are not et up to accept credit cards and they are not supposed to accept fares that have credit card payment selected. Sometimes the drivers aren't paying attention and other times they are just thirsty and don't give a damn. In any case you are under no obligation to pay cash if you requested the ride with credit card payment selected. When this happens to me I refuse to pay cash and the drivers complain then relent, because they have no choice. They don't want to bother with setting up their accounts to accept credit cards but in order to collect the fare when a rider refuses to pay cash they have to do it. It's been especially bothersome when I send a girl home and she later tells me the driver made her pay cash. I always tell them to confirm with the driver before they begin the trip. It got really bad during the lockdown because coopebombas was the only app and only yellow taxis were on it, and because there were very few fares to be had.

Posts: 5607No. I wouldn't recommend a Tinder type app, or to spend much time with the ladies trying to set something up.

I agree with Mojo Bandit, Tinder is about the worst source for girls in Medellin. It's also the source used by a few different nefarious groups to set up and rob gringos over the past few years.
Unless you're just silly with money and need some excuse to throw it away, spending time talking with the ladies, trying to set something up, unless it's within 36 hours, preferably within 6 hours, is a waste of time. Most of them will agree to almost anything, if they know it's not for the same day. The story is almost certain to change when you're ready to finalize the deal.
Speaking of stories, you'll probably hear a few of those while trying to set things up. It goes something like this:
Hello baby, how are you? Are you in Medellin? No? I'm okay but I'm sad.
When you ask why she's sad (or bored, or what she's sick of) you'll get a brief story about how she needs money and could you send her some. You might think it's only $20 or $30 and it's building goodwill and you'll be getting free sex with her when you arrive. However, the first $20 is followed by another and another and the free sex isn't likely to happen when you arrive.
This isn't like your doctor's office where you make an appointment weeks in advance. Other than a brief, "I'll be there soon, I want to meet you", you don't need to set anything up until you're ready to ask how soon can they arrive. Then add 45 minutes, because they are usually late.
Read the forum. Learn what's available, where it's available and how much it should cost. Then decide which source of girls seems best suited to you. Then you can ask the right questions.

Posts: 3802As usual excellent advice for all with limited "yellow taxi" experience, especially about not slamming the door. However, they don't use the word metro for the meter, but they actually use another word and I don't know how to spell it, but it's pronounced taxcemietro, so very close to what you said. Today I was in a cab and specifically asked the driver whether they ever use the word "meter" and he said no, they call it what I can pronounce properly but cannot spell.

Posts: 5607The breakfast available may be outdated as well. Restaurant and bar were both shut down when I was there in November.

Posts: 3802So Much For Social Distancing
So yesterday they started Pico why Cedula meaning depending on whether your ID ends in an even or odd number your either allowed in or out of major stores, like EXITO, and it's nice as I was in EXITO today shopping and it wasn't nearly as crowded and faster to check out then before Pico why Cedula.
However, they have made some changes within the Metro operations, at least that is what I have observed the past two days which is not good. Yesterday I went to the Poblado Station around 4 PM and to use my Civica to get thru the turnsyle, they now have like a 10 second wait period before the next rider can swipe to enter. Okay so no big deal, I arrived at Parque Berrio and upon returning from ground zero at 6 PM, there was like a twenty minute wait for a car to come headed back to the Poblado station, where as there was three other cars going in the opposite direction. And when the car finally arrived, not everybody was able to get in because the car was so packed, and people were fighting others literally to let the people get off the car. So after finally getting in the car and staying close to the door and upon arriving at the Poblado station it was the same thing again, people literally fighting to get off and on. So so much for social distancing, they are trying to reduce exposure to the virus, but it's a total joke. So upon exiting the Poblado station they were still metering the swiping at the turnstyles, and there was a line from the Station at 6 PM all the way to Avenida Las Vegas, and 100 meters heading south. I have never seen such a long line to get on the METRO ever and it was probably at least an hours wait or more. And at 1 PM today I entered the Industriales Station headed to the Poblado station and although there was no line to get into the station, the car was jam packed upon arrival.
For the past month, and up until Thursday, the METRO has been great with no delays or waits or overcrowding but they've made some changes since Thursday. And it's a joke with all of the "footprints'" on the floor of the Metro cars to delineate social distancing.

Posts: 63Going to be returning back to Medellin for about 1. 5 weeks after being gone for about 3 months. I was bouncing around in Tijuana and Brazil and looking to get back to that Colombia bunda. Hoping all is well with everyone and that things remain the same. I'll be landing tomorrow but I read that there's a potential curfew? Do establishments like la isla still stay open even though they're supposed to close or are they really going to shut down?

Posts: 3802I have Tinder, and I pay the $ 10 a month or whatever it is to put in my destination. Yet Tinder like you have said is really a bust in Medellin as a lot of guys have been ripped off, and you need to be very cautious, where as in other Countries it's very different, as I have had great success with it in Asia.

Posts: 3802Shift Change Overlap Is Prime Time In El Centro
The very best time to be in El Centro is between the hours of 4 PM and 6 PM because there basically is a shift change with an overlap of girls who work during the day and don't want to be there in the evening, and the gilrs that show up late in the afternoon who work until mid evening say around 9 PM. So between 4 PM and 6 PM, that's prime time!

As far as the lights going out, well there is still a fair amount of activity up until 9 PM, but when all the storefronts and restaraunts have shut down, it's time to get out of Dodge! It becomes a different world and not a good idea to be walking around, however if your down at Avendia de La Grief where this is a lot of activity it's safer as the zombies and night crawlers prefer the deserted areas.
As far as the Vennie, I've checked her out several times, and she is always at the same spot and you should at least talk with her. If she quotes you more than 30 K before clarifying your BBBJ request, than that should raise a "red flag", as she gets pulled a lot, and probably knows how to work the gringos, but maybe I'm wrong, she might be really cool or a total dud. That's the beauty of El Centro. If you get a dud, or say your not able to blow a load, you just go back out and grab another one because it's so cheap to do so.

Posts: 28I appreciate the insight I am from. The sister site and only know the SW and MP scene in Chicago. I finally want to take the dive into international scene. I am torn between Medellin and Cartagena trying to study the forms and learn. Thinking a week will be enough for me. I will be going solo and do speak the language.

Posts: 361Ok, noted. Thanks for the tip. I think I know who you're talking about. Two trips ago, she gave me the whistle from a distance, and I have to admit I looked back a couple of times to assess. As you mentioned in the other post, there did seem to be a lot of activity, yesterday afternoon. I also noticed that there appeared to be a wave of girls I hadn't seen around 4-5 p walking around closer to 6 p. Is this typical? I don't necessarily want to be around when the lights go down, per se. Especially, if I'm 6-7 beers deep, and solo. However, maybe it's worth it to do a quick search before sunset.

Posts: 1274I know I sound like a smart ass but: yes its called Tinder, if you get a paid version, I think its called "Tinder Passport" which you can change your location to Medellin before you leave an start cruising the app looking for the professional chicas. It is not free though, the Tinder Passport cost $10 USD per month but its worth a one month fee, then cancel when you are done.

That said I personally think it is one of the worst ways to meet prepagos in Medellin, just slightly better than escort websites, they charge top dollar so make sure you negotiate all your expectations.
