First, thanks to the likes of Wyatt, Xpartan, VB, and others who posted / PM'd me in response to my upcoming trip plan. Second, I apologize for the delayed "thank you" as I had a significant family event pop up this week that distracted me from planning and the likes.

Salt to the wound is that my trip will now likely be shortened from 40 days to roughly 30 or so due to a friend's pseudo-shotgun wedding in early July. The fact that this dude has the audacity to ask me to be a groomsman for a wedding on a holiday weekend with 5 week's notice is endearing at best and selfish at worst, but what can you do. On the bright side, due to unrelated events, my budget for the trip increased slightly so I'm looking at more like $8500 for 30 days now. Heading out late next week and starting with a week in Copa at a hotel.

As per senior members' rec, probably won't waste time going back and forth between Ipanema and Copa. As per my previous post, I'll be looking for those big booty brancas! Will shift over to SP at some point (return flight is out of there) but only after I've experienced "enough" of Rio, if one can do such a thing.

From my army days I learned that an 80% plan executed with aggressiveness is better than a 100% plan that comes too late. Though logistics is not my background, I agree with VB that it is the most critical part of all sustained operations. That being said, I think I have most of it figured out for now (cue: damn millennials think they know it all / full of piss and vinegar) so I plan to hit the ground running and learn what I can along the way.

Now, I've never rented or driven a car in Rio, but from the way I've witnessed Cariocas drive (over the years), its pretty damn scary. I think in recent years the respect for traffic ordinances has improved, but past years (2015 to 2000) and before, driving often appeared like a video game at times. Driving in Rio can be very treacherous and difficult, unless you've spent some time and have a good "lay of the land".

Now I've driven in smaller states / cities like Ceara, Fortaleza, Aracati, Canoa Quebrada and (within) Buzios and found that highway, freeway and city driving to be decent, and far enough, away from the bat-shit crazy Rio driving that I've seen, where I felt comfortable enough to get by without incident. But lots of white knuckle moments none the less.

Although, once in Buzios I could see renting a car / buggy to get around, (which I would highly recommend, if you have the time). Also, bicycling around Buzios, is said to be a great experience, with lots of terrific mountain bike trails.

Personally, I'm just not yet (nor I'm I sure I'll ever be) gutsy enough to drive in Rio. I think, Rio has enough decent inexpensive and less risky travel options (like driving at night), that should suffice for most travelers.

But perhaps, it is a more viable option, to drive in Rio today, than in the past?

Driving a buggy in Buzios is a lot of fun for those who don't mind stick. Unlike Rio, people don't drive like lunatics probably due to enormous and scary looking speedbumps everywhere. But buggies can only be used within the city limits, so can't drive to Cabo Frio or elsewhere.

I've rented cars and driven them in Rio without issues, except in 2015 while returning from a wild night at a club in Duque de Caxias (girlfriend in tow) and got caught in a DWI sting in Copa. So just don't drive buzzed on alcohol and it will be fine. I plan on renting a car while I am in Rio as I arrive Monday.

If you're the average tourist who stays in Copa, you owe it to yourself to take an uber to Olegario maciel 135.

It is a bar which has hookah.

Across the street are several bars, including bar do adao, which is famous for a certain kind of crepe.

Next to bar do adao, is a little bar on an open air design. Here is where the best barravipsrio girls stay all night, smoking little has&h cigarettes with their dates or friends. It is as close to a upscale VM as you will find. It is an upscale Mabs. It is better than Mabs because it is really the hottest, best, prettiest women in Rio, as good or better than Leblon, which is the other real upscale girl area -- the little street with Boteca Belmonte.

IMHO, Copa is shit, merda, trash for tourists. If you want to swim in shit water from your toilet, the toilet which is 500 years of guanabara bay, then go to copa and swim. If you want to swim in clear Atlantic ocean salt water which is healthy, then go to Olegario Maciel 135, and swim there. The water is superb, the scenery is the best in Rio in terms of the bunda. Down the street at Av Pepe 400 is the "yellow house" as the locals call it, IE, Perola Negra, the boate / terma which has the same talent as 4 x4, literally the same girls, I can quote for you two or more of the exact same girls.

Olegario Maciel is the uber local the Miami beach of Rio.

Paris Cafe is good too, it is down Av Americas at about Posto 9 or 10, but it is just a honky tonk bar in the middle of a big ass freeway.

The intelligencia, the powerful like Bolsonaro and his milicia family members and the rumored contendors to run against him like Huck, and the MMA top tier families who are the true royalty of Brazil mentioned by the Mark Twain of America, Joe Rogan, live in Barra or Recreio.

When you are at Olegario Maciel, if you want a top tier, best in world prepared meal, then go to Na Brasa Colombia, the restaurant on your right as you walk towards the ocean on Olegario heading towards the Atlantic. It has an open air seating area where you can watch the girls -- the real girls, the pros and non pros -- stroll along the strand being Brazilians. The best fish dish there is Filet de Peixe Bel Munier. Order it with the sala palmito. Request the steamed potatoes be deleted and switched instead with batata Portuguese (potato chip style). The counterpart vendor of cheap electronics and such will also come to central on the same supervia or bus to central. By central, I mean central station on the metro, and central station on the supervia light rail, and central the bus station. There the beach vendor will buy his electronics for 30 reais which he will try to sell for 60 on the beach in copa or barra, or he will buy the neoprene masks for 1. 5 reais that he will try to sell for 5 reais. I'm tending to agree with you and Bravo. I just initially went along with the idea because, hey why not? But now I can see in broad daylight that so many things need to go right and just one thing off could make it all go pear shaped. I'm going to suggest instead that we hit up a beach club in Grumari and maybe stay at a hotel down there if things go well. That's only an hour uber.

Final thought- I'm actually not even sure we could easily get an uber out to Buzios- remember this driver has to get back as well- a 6 hour time commitment only paid for half.

Let me tell you this. I absolutely love Busios, and cariocas don't call it paraiso for nothing. But the best way to go is with a girl you know well and for at least 3-4 days, IMHO. I'm talking from a personal (bad) experience. Other times when I was there with a buddy, we had a blast. And if you have a budget, there are fantastic hillside million dollar-view villas that you can rent for around $150 or less if you negotiate a last minute stay. Can be a blast with a right kind of girl.

I don't think there is much of a pro scene in Buzios. There are a bunch of middle class Brazilians and Argentinians on holiday. Many were with their boyfriends. There seems to be a few Euro and North American backpackers who stroll into town.

I'm just stating what I observed. If some guys want to take a shot at the civilians, girls tend to drop their inhibitions when on holiday in an exotic place particularly the backpacker babes. It is a long trip from Rio though. I think it would suck if you didn't have traveling buddies.

Exactly right, they thoroughly protect their "family-friendly" image, but with the proliferation of mileroticos, photoacompanhantes, fatal models, etc, there isn't much they can do. When I was on Ilha Grande, some girls I messaged told me they were working in Busios at the moment, so it seems to be a popular spot for GDPs. Before that, there was one rundown club with butt-ugly garotas on the outskirts of Buzios.

Also, very, very few single girls or women. In fact, when I say few, I mean almost none. On the other hand, I've seen plenty of young, carefree male backpackers, so anyone who travels to Buzios to hunt civilians should manage their expectations, LOL.

But the overall type of experience and scene isn't. Staying way the hell out in Barra. Hitting only mostly prives in centro when going out. Far away from the main action and no termas with the kind of social interaction and mingling with the girls that I like. I'm not interested in taking a "Spartan" vacation to any place really. The prives are maybe a little harder to do logistically. You have to go to multiple prives, take notes, etc. Deal with the bad elevators and walk down the stairs in some buildings like TDM33.
