How do they make enough to survive when there is such an oversaturation of transport, but few people taking that transport? There is no bar scene at the moment, the town is dead for tourism. So there they sit in the sun, trying to get my attention. From my travels around the world, I have learned to gauge the danger level of a location by the number of idle young men in the streets. Here, the number of idle young men is off the charts. A lone white man in his 30's with absolutely no backup stands out like the sorest of thumbs.

Stopped by Casuarina and talked to a pro, offered some cash to show me the other scenes in the area. So she took me around to some slum-brothel shacks and local drinking establishments. Ugly, fat, malnourished women were on offer. Saw absolutely nothing worth getting that dirty for. The 'local bars' were dirt floor huts where Kenyans drink while ugly hookers and street people wander by. Not my scene. Quite depressing. I had a drink there, making sure to witness the cap being opened on my beer, bought a few drinks for the locals as to not leave them with bad feelings towards me, then went on my way after paying my 'guide'. I am sure there are more underground activities, but the effort required to penetrate into them isn't something I can summon up at the moment.

When I got back to my hotel I made the decision to cut my stay short and flush about $150 down the drain in lodging. Then I booked an airbnb in Nyali. I have about 10 women waiting to come visit me still at this point, and from asking a couple of them, it sounds like they are more than willing to come to Nyali also. It's a fairly central location, or so it seems. With relatively nice amenities close by, and with a far superior security situation (as far as I could tell). We shall see.

Quick Run Down: Mtwapa is dead as a doornail for bar pickups or any type of street action. If there are pros here they are mostly in hiding, or have moved down to other parts of Mombasa for better pickings. The 7 pm bar closing time is a disaster, and the 10 pm curfew really limits things. The online-game is jumping, but there isn't any reason to be in mtwapa for the online-game. It's a dirty town with very little going for it without the bar scene operating. I might check it out again someday, and stay at Jambo Traveler instead. It actually looks like an oasis in a sea of filth.

There ARE some absolute gems here and there in the town, but I wasn't feeling up for cold-approaching, especially while my lodging was in such a sorry state.
